Job Description

Job Title: Head of Mediation Development Date: October 2020 Reporting to: Director of Training and Development Location: London (with occasional travel)

We are the leading global professional membership organisation representing the interests of alternative dispute practitioners worldwide. As a charity registered in England and Wales, CIArb is regulated by the Charity Commission and but has an international network of over 41 Branches.

Job Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for the shaping and growing mediation activities outside and within CIArb to enable the organisation to become a global leader in the provision of mediation services.

Responsibilities

• To oversee the CIArb mediation membership journey for both its training and experienced practitioner routes, defining clear and distinctive learning outcomes and competencies that take into account contemporary trends in mediation practice;

• To identify the current and future continuing professional development (CPD) needs of mediators at all levels of CIArb membership to enable appropriate and relevant CPD courses to be developed;

• To support CIArb’s global branch network in providing virtual and face mediation membership and CPD training, including by training mediation faculty;

• To define and implement a mediation careers vision to enable those who wish to develop a mediation practice to acquire the proficiencies, business development and other skills they need to progress within the mediation sector, including focusing on cross qualification across multiple alternative dispute resolution disciplines;

• To contribute to mediation thought leadership at the organisation, including by contributing to organisational publications and organising mediation events;

• To design and implement Mediation, rule of law and access to justice programmes, particularly to assist public and private sector bodies with mediation services and capacity;

• To enable CIArb to grow its mediation partnerships with other organisations around the world, particularly with a view to mutual recognition of training programmes and through its education partnership framework.

Requirements Essential:

• High-level professional qualifications and strong knowledge field of alternative dispute resolution, in particular, mediation;

• Substantial global experience working in the field of mediation, including with diverse stakeholders; • Showing market appreciation that identifies and appreciates the needs of different stakeholders; • Excellent levels of self-motivation and strong strategic, problem solving, analytical and business

development skills that can be evidenced as leading to product and business growth; • Excellent written and verbal project communication skills in the English language; • Experience of working in an training environment, focussed on providing for and meeting the needs

of a diverse global community of learners; • Clear ability to set business and other goals, write action plans and manage multiple stakeholders

and projects, particularly with strong organisational skills delivering on deadlines and to budget; • Strong and demonstrable commitment to alternative dispute resolution and equality, diversity and

inclusion.

Desirable:

• Experience of working in a membership organisation; • Experience of working in a multi-cultural and global environment; • Proficiency in different languages

Summary Terms and Conditions Contract: 12 month fixed term contract Salary: £55,000 per annum Annual leave: 25 days holidays per annum pro rata plus UK bank holidays Pension: Minimum 8% Employer contribution with minimum 2% Employee contribution Healthcare: Company scheme subject to terms and conditions. Life assurance: Company life assurance scheme.
