    ACT Legislation RegisterUser Survey 2010

    The ACT legislation register is an authorised electronic statute book that provides thecommunity with ree and quick access to ACT legislation and related inormation.

    The register is central to the making, notication, commencement, operation,interpretation, proo, republication, amendment and repeal o legislation andinstruments made under legislation.

    The register has been in operation since 12 September 2001. Since that time it has hadmany enhancements and most recently a new search unction has been installed.

    The Parliamentary Counsels Oce (PCO) is seeking your input to help us identiy wherethe register is meeting your needs and where the register could do more.

    Whether youre a regular user or will be having a look at the register or the rst time,please let us know what you think.

    Review o ACT Government Events and Festivals

    The ACT Government has engaged Peter Loxton and Associates Pty Ltd to review theACT Governments events and estivals. This review will provide the opportunity toexplore the economic and social potential o events to the ACT and identiy a uniedvision or events and estivals in Canberra that refects the essence o Canberras values,attributes, and experiences. It will also consider Government and business partnerships,

    as well as the most eective organisational arrangements or delivering the ACTGovernments events and estivals strategies.

    Pandemic H1N1 and seasonal inuenza vaccines

    Pandemic H1N1 infuenza was the most common strain o infuenza in Australiaduring 2009 and is expected to return or a second wave this year. The rst case oconrmed pandemic H1N1 infuenza or 2010 has already been reported in the ACT andapproximately 15 conrmed cases are currently being reported in Australia each week.

    Immunisation against pandemic H1N1 infuenza is strongly recommended.

    The pandemic H1N1 infuenza vaccine is ree and currently available rom H1N1Community Immunisation clinics and GPs. Normal GP consultation ees will apply.

    The 2010 seasonal infuenza vaccine will also protect against pandemic H1N1 infuenzaand two other strains o infuenza - an A (H3N2) strain and a B strain.

    In 2010 seasonal infuenza vaccine will be ree or:

    anyone aged six months or over who is at risk of severe outcomes if theycatch the fu, such as people suering rom cardiac disease, cancer, cystic brosis,diabetes or renal ailure;

    pregnant women;

    all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 15 or older; and

    all Australians 65 years and over.

    People who are not eligible or ree seasonal fu vaccine should still consider vaccinationor protection against the strains o infuenza expected to be in circulation this winter.It is sae to have both pandemic H1N1 vaccine and seasonal infuenza vaccine within ashort time period.

    Distribution o 2010 seasonal infuenza vaccine to GPs or people eligible or ree vaccineis underway and all GP practices will have supplies by the end o March. Supplies o2010 seasonal infuenza vaccine or private prescription are expected to be availablerom pharmacies in April.

    To protect yoursel against pandemic H1N1 infuenza, book an appointment nowwith your GP or call the Community Health Intake Line during business hours on02 6207 9977. For seasonal fu vaccine, check with your GP to ensure they have stock onhand beore your appointment.

    Celebrate with the Canberra Capitals at Stage 88 today

    Canberrans are invited to a civic reception today in honour o the WNBL championship-winning Canberra Capitals. The celebrations will start at 5.00pm at Stage 88 inCommonwealth Park and will be a highlight o the 2010 Canberra Festival event,Celebrate in the Park.

    New gambling laws

    From Monday March 22 2010 the ollowing new gambling laws will come into eect: the Unlawful Gambling Act 2009;

    the Unlawful Gambling Regulation 2010;

    the Unlawful Gambling (Charitable Gaming Application Fees) Determination 2010 (No 1);

    the Unlawful Gambling (Exempt Game) Declaration 2010 (No 1); and

    the Unlawful Gambling (Unlawful Game) Declaration 2010 (No 1).

    These laws act as a ramework or regulating gambling in the ACT. The laws outlinerestrictions on private gambling (such as where it may be conducted), provide orrestricted charitable gaming and make clear that existing commercial gambling (such ascasino and gaming machines) can continue under other ACT gambling laws.     The ACT Government recently launched the ACTSmart Monergy awareness campaign,designed to help people save money by cutting energy use. The campaign will inormpeople how they can save money and also promote the help on oer through theACTSmart program.

    The message is simple ACTSmart and save Monergy. Monergy is a combination otwo words money and energy, and represents the savings people can make through

    reducing their energy use with the help o the rebates, incentives and advice available.
