For example, should a 20-foot straightpiece of railing on a concrete platform core drilled be pricedthe same as five pieces of railing on steps 4-foot long each? Thegoal of this class is to show how by the foot pricing compareswith time and material.

    What is Your Business Worth?This class looks at business valuation, brokers, standard ap-praising, analyzing the financials, and what is included in thevalue of your business. Who should you hire to do this? Who

    can you go to for help?

    Hands-on Classes

    for METALfab 2010Hands-on classes require a full or one-day registration and anadditional ticket (fee) $20 for each class (maximum of fourtickets per registrant). The hands-on classes will be availableon a first come, first served basis with a limit of 50 people perclass, so register early! Transportation to these off-site classeswill be provided by shuttle bus, which is included in the $20

    ticket fee. Registrants for the hands-on classes are asked tobring their own protective eye wear and earplugs.

    Paint Finishes and PatinasDavid Wareham, Gilders PasteCreating a patina is both a science and an art. In this session

    youll learn how to use chemicals to create a wide variety offinishes and textures. Discover how temperature and humidityboth play a role in the final effect. The class will also cover theuse of pigments and surface pre-treatments to create an evenwider variety of coloration.

    Air Hammer Tech & ForgingWiemann MetalcraftLearn the basics of free-hand forging using the air hammerand dies. This session will review various forging techniquesand show you how to create simple elements, such as speartips. The class will also cover tips for efficiency and improving

    speed.

    The final event is the Annual Awards Banquet. During thisspecial time the new officers and directors are installed, specialrecognition is given to outstanding NOMMA members, andthe Ernest Wiemann Top Job Awards winners are announced.

    The grand finale of the evening is the awarding of the MitchHeitler Award for Excellence, which is the top award chosen

    from the gold award winners.

    Top Job CompetitionThe annual Ernest Wiemann Top Job Contest provides energyand excitement throughout convention week. During gallery

    hours, NOMMA member companies will be given the oppor-tunity to vote on their top three choices in 16 categories. Oncevoting ends the action continues during the Top Job Jamboree,where images are flashed on a screen and entrants describetheir outstanding work. On Saturday, the excitement is in theair as the contest winners are announced during the AwardsBanquet. The grand finale is the presentation of the MitchHeitler Award for Excellence, which is given to one gold awardwinner that shows exceptional craftsmanship.

    Metal Fold FormingFold forming is a system of metal forming developed between1980 and the present, which is the concrete result of a concep-tual approach to metalsmithing that emphasizes forming usingthe metals characteristics. It is about following what the metallikes to do. Rather than forcing form upon the material formsare to some extent derived from the natural tendencies of theplasticity, ductility and elasticity of the metal.
