President’s Corner First and foremost, I thank all the delegates who attended the LAQ State Conference in June. It was a great weekend for not only the motions, which were very well debated, but also the workshops and presentations that were held. A couple of hot issues out of the conference were the Little Athletics Australia standard events and the meetings we are having with Queensland Athletics. There were concerns with what affect the standard events would have on our competitions, and the short answer is, not much at all. The main change will be the Walks and U11 Javelin. But it does not mean we cannot run these events, they just won’t be considered for an Australian Best Performance. This is part of an issue that has been a problem for some time where all States do not do the same events. The bigger part of the problem is now going to be the rules and specifications. Although we do things very well in Queensland, if you travel to another State, things like High Jump, spikes etc can be done very differently. We also had a great presentation on the coming together meetings we are having with QA. Fieldworx who are hosting the meetings gave a presentation then asked for concerns and issues from the floor. They will collate all of these issues and bring them to the next meeting. Some of the issues that we are already working on are easier joint memberships for athletes and Centres, cheaper insurance for dual members, conflicting competitions and much more. We also had a workshop on the future of the ALAC’s. We had a request from a Centre regarding putting a motion to Little Athletics Australia making the U15’s a full team as well as the U13’s. The main reason for this is to give athletes another reason to stay in Little Athletics until they are U15. We are doing a survey form up to send out to Centres to get your point of view. There will be cost implications, but we should have all this information in the survey. One of the highlights was once again the awards presented over the weekend. In particular I would like to congratulate the two Distinguished Merit Award recipients. Stewart Williams was one recipient, and the other can’t be named in LA News just yet because their Centre is going to surprise them! This is the second highest award you can receive in Little Athletics Queensland. All other award winners are listed in this issue. In closing, I also thank the Board and Staff for their work over the weekend. You do not run a successful conference without putting a lot of hard work in to the preparation and I know that work was going on behind the scenes all weekend! I trust Winter Centres are now all up and running and I look forward to catching up with you at the IGA Winter Championships next month. President’s Corner

First and foremost, I thank all the

delegates who attended the LAQ

State Conference in June. It was a

great weekend for not only the

motions, which were very well

debated, but also the workshops

and presentations that were held.

A couple of hot issues out of the

conference were the Little Athletics

Australia standard events and the

meetings we are having with

Queensland Athletics.

There were concerns with what

affect the standard events would

have on our competitions, and the

short answer is, not much at all. The

main change will be the Walks and

U11 Javelin. But it does not mean we

cannot run these events, they just

won’t be considered for an

Australian Best Performance.

This is part of an issue that has been

a problem for some time where all

States do not do the same events.

The bigger part of the problem is

now going to be the rules and

specifications. Although we do

things very well in Queensland, if you

travel to another State, things like

High Jump, spikes etc can be done

very differently.

We also had a great presentation on

the coming together meetings we

are having with QA. Fieldworx who

are hosting the meetings gave a

presentation then asked for

concerns and issues from the floor.

They will collate all of these issues

and bring them to the next meeting.

Some of the issues that we are

already working on are easier joint

memberships for athletes and

Centres, cheaper insurance for dual

members, conflicting competitions

and much more.

We also had a workshop on the

future of the ALAC’s. We had a

request from a Centre regarding

putting a motion to Little Athletics

Australia making the U15’s a full

team as well as the U13’s. The main

reason for this is to give athletes

another reason to stay in Little

Athletics until they are U15. We are

doing a survey form up to send out

to Centres to get your point of view.

There will be cost implications, but

we should have all this information in

the survey.

One of the highlights was once

again the awards presented over

the weekend. In particular I would

like to congratulate the two

Distinguished Merit Award recipients.

Stewart Williams was one recipient,

and the other can’t be named in LA

News just yet because their Centre is

going to surprise them! This is the

second highest award you can

receive in Little Athletics

Queensland. All other award

winners are listed in this issue.

In closing, I also thank the Board and

Staff for their work over the

weekend. You do not run a

successful conference without

putting a lot of hard work in to the

preparation and I know that work

was going on behind the scenes all

weekend!

I trust Winter Centres are now all up

and running and I look forward to

catching up with you at the IGA

Winter Championships next month.

2010 IGA Winter Championships

A reminder for all Winter Centres to

get their nominations in for the 2010

IGA Winter Championships which

are being held on the 17-18 July at

the Townsville Sports Reserve. To

allow Centres more time, the closing

date for nominations has been

extended to the 5th of July so you’ll

have a few more days in order to

support your premier Championship

event in the north!

ALA Standard Events

At the request of the LAQ

Conference the ALA Standard

Events have been attached to this

LA News so that Centres could have

a closer look at them. The good

news is the Standard Events are the

minimum events that States have to

run so other events can be run as

long as they don’t conflict with a

Standard Event. With this in mind,

Queensland was very lucky in that

we won’t have to change anything

from our current program in order to

conform and we can still run the

odd event that isn’t on the ALA list.

IGA Docket Promotion

Below is the latest tally from the IGA

Docket promotion, which has

Springwood firmly on top in the

overall standings. It is now up to the

Winter Centres to figure in the

placings as they still have half of

their season left to collect. A

reminder to all Winter Centres and

any Summer Centres that might still

have some of their dockets still to be

submitted to IGA, please tally your

dockets before they are sent in to

IGA so that they can process them

quicker. Happy docket hunting!
