Park and Ride

bus tours

Park and ride a bus to the Parade of Homes. Conserve on gas, and no need to worry about parking. The HBIA would like to make your Parade viewing easier. Come to the Power Townsend parking lot (1387 East Custer Avenue) on Saturday, September 18, and Sunday, September 19, and leave the driving to us. Buses are free to the public.

Buses will depart intermittently throughout the weekend and will stop at each home along the Parade route. Parade participants will be able to tour a home for approximately 20 minutes before the bus leaves.

There will be two buses touring the Parade route. Bus routes may change to better accommodate participants, but it is a relaxing way to view the homes. Grab a friend, and hop on a bus!

Enjoy the Parade of Homes, and leave the driving to the HBIA.

Cottage Craft Homes is a partnership between two long

standing Montana companies. Sysum Construction Inc. and Ahmann Brothers, LLC have partnered on various projects in the past and are excited to bring you homes that are carefully thought out from every perspective.

Layton Sysum is a second generation home builder who enjoys the challenge of meeting the budget on these homes just as much as he enjoys crafting the custom homes he is known for. A graduate of Montana State University’s engineering program, he is known for his attention to detail and his innovative building processes.

Over twenty years ago, a grade school assignment to draw your home started a young boy on the path to his

career. After leaving Hingham, a small town up on the Hi-Line, and moving to Helena to attend the Helena College of Technology, Thad immediately started his own business and has owned and operated Burkhartsmeyer Construction for twelve years now.

Thad has a passion for the outdoors. He loves hunting, fishing, snow and water skiing, boating and camping. With all of these in every direction of Helena, he knew he wanted to stay and continue his business here. Thad also knew that Helena had a lot of growing to do. So after deciding to stay, he became a subcontractor for some of Helena’s premier builders. While working as a framing subcontractor, he grew his business to include concrete foundations and decorative slabs, and also timber frame design and building. When the economy slowed, Thad knew that people needed good, quality homes for a good, reasonable price. With the great team of suppliers, subcontractors and realtors that Thad has built over the years, he found a way to stretch and make each dollar count so that clients get more for their money without sacrificing quality.

Thad is a very hands-on builder and is on the jobsite to ensure that quality is maintained, and that the project gets done quickly, on time and within budget. Leland Builders is excited to show this recently renovated

home located near the Causeway on Rainbow Road. Originally built in 1974, this home’s interior spaces were poorly laid out, but contained several opportunities to improve both the comfort and beauty of the home. Armed with years of contemplation and a vision of the house as a gathering place for their large family, the homeowners teamed up with Leland Builders to create this truly one-of-a-kind home.

This 3,800-square-foot home features a main floor above with a walkout basement below. A large, artfully resurfaced fireplace creates a focal point on both floors. The renovation of this home included

deconstructing all interior walls, floors, and ceilings, conversion of the garage into living space, as well as replacement of the electrical, plumbing, and heating systems. The new interior spaces feature a large, well-equipped kitchen and a master suite with a beautiful shower surrounded by natural stone and an accompanying sauna. The living and dining room are a unique blend of characteristics with a centrally located fireplace displaying a rough and textured stone to contrast the more traditional wainscot and trim details.

Other outstanding features of this home include a new geothermal heating system, water conservation measures and Energy Star lighting and appliances. Leland Builders

implemented the 4Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Restore – throughout this project. From the use of salvaged materials, to advanced framing techniques, refinishing and reconfiguring the homes original cabinetry, to donations to Helena’s Habitat for Humanity ReStore, responsible and intelligent remodeling choices were made from day one.

This home features a Silver level certification through the NAHB Green program. To achieve this, Leland Builders demonstrated a 34 percent improvement in both the water efficiency and energy efficiency of the home through performance testing of the house before and after the renovation.

National recognition was received by Pierce & Associates in 2009 for being one of 12 finalists for the Caterpillar, Inc. “Contractor of the Year” award, and for being designated the first “CAT Safety Award” winner. Most recently Bill was inducted into the Montana Building Industry’s Hall of Fame in 2010.
