Lawrence “Skip” Avery, CCM, CCE Country Club of St. Albans St. Louis, MO YEAR JOINED CMAA: 1987 Candidate for: Secretary-Treasurer To provide networking opportunities nationally, while striving to find even greater means for essential network- ing locally. Awareness – CMAA must continue to increase the awareness of our profession at the college level by promot- ing this through our student chapters. This is the lifeblood of our future. We must continue to work with our allied associations (PGA, GCSAA and HFTP), showcasing the positive effects of our industry at our clubs and on the economy in the communities in which we live. This is all our responsibility. As Secretary-Treasurer, I pledge to continue to focus on our Associations strengths while representing all members. In addition, I will represent and support to the best of my abilities the very Association that has provided me the opportunity to become a markedly better professional, allowing me to provide a better life for my family and the abilities to lead and improve the clubs for which I have been and am employed. It is with the support of my family, The Country Club of St. Albans, various chapters and numerous members of CMAA that I ask for your consideration and vote. Your vote will directly affect the future of our Association; allow me the honor to continue on this journey of serving you. M y first run for the position of Secretary-Treasurer, albeit unsuccessful, was not without merit. What I learned was if I really want to represent YOU and help lead CMAA strategically, that I would need to work harder to earn your trust and share with you the principles that directly influence my thinking. Throughout my tenure as a chapter leader and as a national director, my ideology has not changed. I believe these ideals are vital for moving forward strategically, and are assets and opportunities that are inherent to CMAA. Membership – We must continually strive to maintain the high standard of professional development, while gen- erating services that will empower every member at every level, to transcend themselves and their staff to be better professionals.

CMAA has changed my life. I know CMAA haschanged the lives of others as well. This organization

provides club managers throughout the world with a pre-miere experience, and they are happy to do it. I imaginethis is what each of us strives for in our clubs each day. Ihave tremendous passion for the industry and take greatpride in developing future managers who can carry onthe tradition that the great leaders of CMAA have built. At my first conference in Orlando in the mid 90’s, I

knew no one and next to nothing about the organiza-tion. Upon discovering all of my registration forms werefilled out incorrectly, I will never forget the moment thenational staffer smiled and me and took me under herwing. She showed me around, introduced me to other

Candidate for: DirectorCommittees. Working closely on these committees withour dedicated staff and club managers from all over thecountry has been an enriching experience – one thathas deepened my understanding of our membership’sneeds and elevated my (already high) appreciation forour outstanding National Staff.Club managers today face many unique challenges,

stemming in part from an economy that few of us haveexperienced in our lifetimes. Resulting market condi-tions have created what many now refer to as, “a newreality”: declining demand for club memberships andan escalating demand – an outcry, really – for value. And while these challenges may be unique; so too arethe resources that CMAA members have to addressthem.I am fully committed to staying attuned to the chang-

ing needs of our membership and will continue to workdiligently with fellow Board members and staff to eval-uate CMAA’s programs and services, ensure their rele-vance and enhance their value. As it has been for the last three years, it would again

be my genuine privilege to represent you on CMAA’sNational Board. I am grateful for your continued sup-port and I look forward to serving you in the future.

Thank you for electing me to CMAA’s Board ofDirectors in 2007. I am honored to have served you

sense of gratitude for what this organization has donefor me both personally and professionally.
