The rain Thursday evening could not dampen the spirits and enthusiasm of your Board as they participated in the first meeting of the year! Ideas, encouragement and planning for upcoming months were exchanged. We talked about ways to strengthen and grow our Club – both in terms of number of members and activities/service. Increasing our commitment to our Richardson Rotary (scholarship) Foundation and expanding the content of our weekly newsletter were among many topics discussed. As ideas are developed into plans and execution begins, we’ll communicate details in upcoming newsletters and during our Monday meetings. One key emphasis for the next few weeks will be “Aiming for a Cause”, our sporting clays tournament on August 6. The success of this event depends upon the efforts and commitment of every member of Richardson Rotary Club. Need a challenge? Think about this: Richardson East Rotary Club is about half our size and raised $27,000 at their casino night event with 100% of their membership contributing time and talent. Each of you has different time constraints and various talents, so let’s work together for the good of all. Your Board is planning a fun and exciting year. We hope you are ready to participate and enjoy!

A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT-ELECT ELIZABETH PURDY-BERGIN
AIMING FOR A CAUSE, FRIDAY AUGUST 6 – Your Richardson Rotary Club needs you to participate ....this does not necessarily mean you should register to shoot!! There are lots of ways to help, so here are some ideas to get the ball rolling: • Everyone needs to please talk to people you know. Ask if he/she knows what a sporting clays tournament is.
If yes, ask them the sign up a team or be a sponsor. If the answer is no, please explain that the tournament is a type of skeet shooting. Then ask if he/she knows anyone who shoots or hunts that you could invite.
• 8-10 volunteers are needed to each visit 2-3 other Rotary clubs to announce and promote our event. • 8-10 more members are needed to each solicit 3-5 corporate sponsors. • Day of the tournament, we’ll need 3-5 members to check-in shooters and assist with food service plus another
3-5 members to sell water and soda during the shoot. • Jim Shepherd and Ken Mixon are seeking prizes for the raffle.
....and more things will be coming up where your help is so important. Remember, this is a new endeavor for our Club and we’re learning as we go. Please step forward and don’t wait to be asked! Thanks for your support of
ur Club and our (scholarship) Foundation. o
