Meet the CoachWayne Currie is the Head Coach of the Women’s Soccer program. Since taking over the program in 2002, he has built the program into one of the most highly respected programs in the region. He has guided the Saints to two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships and subsequent NCAA Tournament appearances. The team also qualified for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament in 2008 and 2009. Currie’s players have earned numerous distinctions under his development, including recognition by the ECAC, the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA), the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), and ESPN The Magazine.

Currie came to Emmanuel after 10 successful seasons as a high school coach at both Dracut High School and King Philip Regional High School. Throughout his tenure, his teams won eight conference championships, while Currie earned Coach of the Year distinctions seven times. Currie is also active in the youth soccer scene, currently serving as director of coaching for PASA FC. He has coached for Charles River United, Metro Black Magic and Inter-County Soccer Club. He continues to dedicate his time coaching at many camps and youth soccer organizations.

Currie received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Massachusetts. He holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) license and a National Advanced Diploma from the NSCAA.

FacilitiesThe Saints’ home venue is unlike any in Boston. The team plays on the brand-new, NCAA-regulation synthetic turf field at Roberto Clemente Field, located across the street from Emmanuel’s campus. With its open-stadium design and the city’s skyline as its backdrop, Clemente Field makes for a unique playing experience. The facility is outfitted with new MUSCO lighting, scoreboard and plenty of spectator seating. In addition, the Saints have access to a state-of-the-art training facility in the Jean Yawkey Center as well as the St. Joseph Hall fitness center, which is updated with new platforms, racks, free weights, plate-loaded equipment and a separate cardio room.

Great Northeast Athletic ConferenceEmmanuel College competes in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), comprised of 14 New England colleges and universities. Teams that win a GNAC Championship recieve an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. GNAC colleges with participating men’s basketball programs include: Albertus Magnus College, Anna Maria College, Emerson College, Johnson & Wales University, Lasell College, Mount Ida College, Norwich University, Rivier College, St. Joseph’s College and Suffolk University.
