our missionWe, at Sacred Hearts School, believe that as members of a Catholic community,
students will witness and experience the love of God in a safe, caring atmosphere.
This environment provides learning experiences, which allow each child the
opportunity for personal growth. The family, school and church work as partners
in this endeavor.

historyIn the early years of Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Church, when roads were
still dirt, horses were more common than cars, and what is now the Industrial
Park was still farmland “way out of town,” some forward thinkers of the young
parish decided to invite the good Sisters of Notre Dame to Sun Prairie to start
a new school. The year was 1891. After months of planning and discussion,
the school was founded and the doors opened in 1892.
In the 120 years since, there have been transformations by the decade. From
a new church and a new school, to the gradual change to lay teachers, and
the addition of a preschool and daycare, those changes have made the school
what it is today. Parishioners of those early years sent their children, and those
children sent their children, and so on. Whether a student is the first or fifth
generation of their family attending Sacred Hearts, he or she is part of the
community and history of the school and parish. Today the school is a thriving part
of the Madison Diocesan School District’s 47 schools, with one of the highest
enrollment of students in the Diocese. As the years go on and changes occur
with the times, the mission is the same as it was 120 years ago: to educate
and enrich Sun Prairie area children in the catechism of the Catholic faith
while providing them with an excellent education.
As Sacred Hearts School looks back on 120 years, the parish looks forward to
celebrating another significant milestone in 2013 – the 150th anniversary of the
founding of the church. With history to look back on, the present to be ever
grateful for, and the future to discern more changes and growth for the Catholic
Church, it is an exciting time. Plans have started for the whole parish to come
together to celebrate our rich history and the many people who founded our
community. And of course we will be celebrating our parish of today and all the
dedicated people who continue to make this a viably healthy community.
The school is in grateful appreciation of our 2010-2011 donors to the Endowment
Fund, Annual Fund, and the various fundraisers that help continue the Catholic
education that has enriched families since 1892. We also thank all those who
have volunteered their time and talents, from classrooms to committees, to
make the school such a success from year to year to year!

a message from our pastor
Dear Friends of Sacred Hearts School:
This report is a good opportunity for us to give thanks to God for the gift of Sacred
Hearts School. God has blessed our school for 120 years with a deep commitment
to our Catholic faith as well as academic excellence in the subjects taught in
the school. Maintained throughout the years has been a spirit of true family by
those who have been students and faculty of the school.
The parish community of Sacred Hearts has been deeply committed to the
school and most proud of the educational ministry of Sacred Hearts School,
which the parish makes possible. This continues today and will into the future.
All involved over the years in the school: priests, administrators, faculty, parents,
students and generous benefactors, have exemplified a love for the Catholic
faith and commitment to make Sacred Hearts School the best that is possible.
And so as we look to the future, may we do so with renewed vision. The reason
for which a parochial school exists is to pass on the Catholic faith. This must always
be our number one concern. May we also always make quality education in all
subjects a high priority. Finally, may we grow even more in our sense of community
and family making joy, trust and compassion a hallmark of our days. May God
bless all who help to make these goals possible.
Sincerely in Christ,
Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt

from the principal
Dear Friends,
There are so many parents, volunteers, and community members who give
tirelessly of their time and resources to promote the mission of our school. I am
extremely appreciative of their generosity, which enables us to enhance our cur-
ricular programs and offer our students the best possible opportunities.
Catholic education is a gift that we are able to give our children. Your generosity
and kindness ensures that gift will continue long into the future for the students
of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary School.
Most Sincerely,
Kimberlee Frederick, Principal
