Men’s Cross CountryHead Coach: Carolyn MartinAssistant Coach: Roy HarrisonMost Valuable Player: Mike Levene Season Summary: Quinnipiac’s Cross Country team was picked to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coach’s poll and went on to have a solid season that included a trip to the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional. The Bobcats also finished second in the annual Quinnipiac Invitational. Mike Levene paced the Bobcats for most of the season, placing first in a majority of the Bobcats’ meets. Levene earned Quinnipiac September Athlete of the Month honors. The Bobcats won three of the seven meets they competed in, including the season-opening Seawolves Invitational hosted by Stony Brook, the annual Quinnipiac Invitational and the Northeast Conference Championship. In addition, the Bobcats posted second place finishes at two meets and a top five finish at the New England Championships. They went on to finish 20th at the NCAA Regionals. The Bobcats posted an 8-10 record, including a 4-3 mark against the Northeast Conference. The Bobcats got break-out seasons from leading scorers Kimberly Cunniff and Kaitlyn Notarianni, who each tallied 17 points, while Tina Watkins also posted career numbers in her final year at Quinnipiac.

The Bobcats, riddled with injuries, won just once in their first 10 games, but bounced back to post a 3-3-1 record down the stretch, including back-to-back shutouts against NJIT and NEC-foe Sacred Heart , a 4-3 overtime thriller against Central Connecticut State and a 1-1, double overtime tie against nationally-ranked #11 Monmouth in their final regular-season game. Men’s BasketballHead Coach: Tom MooreAssistant Coaches: Sean Doherty, Eric Eaton, Scott BurrellDirector of Basketball Operations: John IatiStudent Assistant: Evann BakerMost Valuable Player: Justin RuttySeason Summary: The Men’s basketball team finished the season at 22-10, including a 13-5 mark in NEC play, and hosted a Division I national tournament game for the first time in program history when the Bobcats faced Buffalo in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats ended the year leading the nation in offensive rebounds while finishing second in total rebounds and ranked third in rebound margin. Along the way, Justin Rutty broke the Northeast Conference rebounding record and became just the third player in Quinnipiac history to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for his career. Rutty also broke the record for career field goals and career double-doubles. The story profiled the sisters’ relationship, journey to their respective schools and success once on their respective campuses. 9/3/2010 - The Quinnipiac University Department of Athletics held its an-nual Positive Play Forum at Burt Kahn Court on the Mt. Carmel campus. Over 400 student-athletes were in attendance for the assembly when President John Lahey, Vice President and Dean of Students Manny Carreiro, Director of Athletics Jack McDonald, Senior Associate Athletic Director Bill Mecca and Associate Dean of Student Affairs Monique Drucker addressed the crowd. Also speaking to her peers was women’s soccer player and Fellowship of Christian Athletes member Jillian Kelley. Quinnipiac University junior field hockey player Kaitlyn Notarianni (Clarks Summit, Pa.) was named the Quinnipiac August Athlete of the Month. 9/4/2010 - The Quinnipiac University women’s cross country team won its first race of the 2010 season, finishing in first place out of four teams at the Seawolves Invitational in Stony Brook, N.Y. 9/9/2010 – Quinnipiac women’s soccer keeper Jillian Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) was featured in the New Haven Register on Thursday, Sept. 9 in an article written by staff reporter Jim Fuller. 9/11/2010 - The Quinnipiac University women’s cross country team finished second out of 10 teams at the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational at Stanley Quar-ter Park. The Bobcats finished ahead of Northeast Conference opponents Monmouth, Sacred Heart, Central Connecticut and Bryant with a total of 52 points. The Quinnipiac University women’s ice hockey team was selected to finish fourth in the 2010-11 ECAC Hockey Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Bobcats collected 79 points in the poll after posting a 19-10-8 overall record (11-4-7 ECAC Hockey) last season. Women’s tennis senior Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.) earned her 100th career win with a pair of doubles victories to open the Quinnipiac Invita-tional. 9/18/2010 - The Quinnipiac University men’s cross country team placed second at the Quinnipiac University Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Bobcats finished the race with a total of 37 points. In first place was Stonehill College with 20 points. Yale University placed four runners in the top 10, however they could not place as a team since they competed with only four runners. Leading the Bobcats was sophomore Mike Levene (Redding, Conn.), finishing the 8K course in fifth place overall with a time of 27:16. The Quinnipiac University women’s cross country team placed first at the Quinnipiac University Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Bobcats won their second race of the season with 15 points overall. 9/19/2010 - Sophomore Jillian Strassner (Avon, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season, as the Quinnipiac University women’s soccer team beat the University of Rhode Island, 1-0, in a hard-fought match at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. Freshman women’s tennis player Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) won a pair of matches to win the Quinnipiac Invitational Flight B Singles Champi-onship. 9/20/2010 - Quinnipiac University junior women’s soccer player Furtuna Ve-laj (Stamford, Conn.) was named the adidas/Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week after registering a hat trick in the Bobcats’ 3-1 victory against perennial regional power Dartmouth. The hat trick was the fourth of Velaj’s career, while the NEC honor is also the fourth of her career. 9/21/2010 - Quinnipiac University freshman cross country runner Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row of the after capturing second place at the Quin-nipiac Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19. Faust finished the race with a time of 18:41, close behind teammate Becca White (Natick, Mass.), who won the Invitational in 18:13.

Athlon Sports, Lindy’s and The Sporting News each picked the Bobcats to win the league title. The Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team visited with students at the Achievement First Bridgeport Academy Friday morning. The team spoke with the students to encourage them to continue to achieve in the classroom and answered questions about issues ranging from the classroom to the basketball court. 9/26/2010 - Junior Kimberly Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) scored twice to lead the Quinnipiac University field hockey team to a 3-1 win against Lafayette at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field. The Quinnipiac University women’s soccer team beat Central Connecticut State University, 4-2, in their first Northeast Conference match of the season at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. 9/27/2010 - Quinnipiac junior Kimberly Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) was named the Northeast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week. Cunniff was the second Quinnipiac player to earn the award after classmate Kaitlyn Notari-anni (Clark Summit, Pa.) won the award on Aug. 30. 9/28/2010 - The Quinnipiac University men’s and women’s cross country teams volunteered at the Cheshire 10k road race for Mari’s Miles of Smiles. The Mari Hall Family Foundation hosted its first annual road race, which has been the organization’s largest fundraiser. The foundation was created to pro-mote awareness of ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and make a difference in the lives of those living ASD. Quinnipiac University freshman Amanda, Briana and Christina Faust (Al-lentown, Pa.) were featured in the New Haven Register in an article written by staff writer Jim Fuller. The triplets made an immediate impact on the perennially strong women’s cross country team, establishing themselves in the Bobcats’ top five runners early in their careers. Quinnipiac University freshman women’s soccer player Beck Kiting (Can-berra, Australia) was named adidas/NEC Co-Rookie of the Week after scoring her first collegiate goal in Quinnipiac’s 4-2 victory against conference rival Central Connecticut State University on Sunday, Sept. 26. The Quinnipiac men’s basketball team was featured in the New Haven Reg-ister. In a feature story written by Dave Borges, Quinnipiac Men’s Basketball Head Coach Tom Moore discussed the team’s trip to Europe this past summer.Women’s tennis freshman Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) was named the NEC Player and Rookie of the Week after reaching the West Point Eastern Tennis Invitational Flight C Singles Championship. The Player of the Week award was the first of the season for Labarthe, while the Rookie of the Week honor was the third straight to open the year. Junior forward Kate Wheeler’s (Oakville, Ontario) two second period goals helped lead the Quinnipiac University women’s ice hockey team to a 3-0 victory in its season opener against non-conference opponent Niagara Uni-versity at Dwyer Arena. 10/2/2010 - The Quinnipiac University women’s ice hockey team skated to a 3-1 victory over Niagara University to complete the two-game weekend se-ries sweep at Dwyer Arena. Freshmen forwards Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) and Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) factored in all three Quinnipiac goals, each registering a goal and two assists on the afternoon. 10/3/2010 - Junior defender Matthew Rothbart (Cheshire, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute as the Quinnipiac University men’s soccer team overcame a halftime deficit while playing a man down to defeat Mount St. Mary’s, 2-1, in the Bobcats’ Northeast Conference opener. 10/4/2010 - Junior forward Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) was featured in an article written by ESPN.com’s Graham Hays. The article chronicles Velaj’s journey from her native Kosovo to the United States, as well as her future aspirations in political science following her collegiate career. Quinnipiac University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Tom Moore was the subject of a Question & Answer session with the Connecticut Post. Moore answered questions from the Post’s Bill Paxton about the predictions of several news outlets that the Bobcats were the preseason favorite to win the Northeast Conference, as well as the Second Annual Connecticut 6 Classic and

The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Quinnipiac’s North Haven Campus. The Bobcats walked in support of Amanda Kenny, a camper of the Tricia Fabbri Basketball Camp, who has Type 1 diabetes. The JDRF is a worldwide leader for research to cure Type 1 diabetes and is one of the largest charitable funders and advocates of diabetes science worldwide. 10/5/2010 - Two Quinnipiac University women’s cross country runners were honored by the Northeast Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Sophomore Rebecca White (Natick, Conn.) was named NEC Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, while Freshman Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) received her third NEC Rookie of the Week award. Kimberly Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) scored twice, in her second consecutive game, to lead Quinnipiac to a 4-2 win against Brown in a non-conference match-up at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field in Hamden, Conn. Cunniff becomes the first player in two seasons since MacKenzie Liptak (Schuylerville, N.Y.), to score two goals in back-to-back games, and the first player to score in three straight games since Liptak and Christine Grady (En-field, Conn.) accomplished the feat in 2008. Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey junior Kate Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario), freshman Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario), and sophomore Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) swept the ECAC Hockey MLX Skates weekly awards after the Bobcats swept Niagara University on the Purple Eagles’ home ice. Wheeler was named Player of the Week, while Babstock was named Rookie of the Week, and Vigilanti was named Goaltender of the Week. 10/7/2010 – The Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey team was featured in the New Haven Register on Thursday, Oct. 7 in an article written by Dave Solomon. In the article, head coach Rand Pecknold discussed the progression of Quinni-piac as a nationally recognized men’s ice hockey team, evidenced by a season-opening series against Ohio State at the TD Bank Sports Center. Senior assis-tant captain Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake, Minn.), junior Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal, Que.) and sophomore Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.), who was selected as the team’s Rookie of the Year in 2009-10, were also highlighted. 10/8/2010 - Men’s ice hockey junior Spencer Heichman (Yorba Linda, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal as Quinnipiac defeated Ohio State, 2-1, in its 2010-11 season- and home-opener at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The women were a perfect 4-0-0 through their first four regular-season contests and received eight votes in the poll, while the men, 1-1-0 after a season-opening weekend split with Ohio State, received two votes in the second poll of the season. The program earned the “Be a Fan” award this past summer for their continued support. 10/15/2010 - Junior Kim Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) was named to the Wo-mensFieldHockey.com Weekly Honor Roll after being named the Northeast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 11. Cunniff led the Bobcats with two goals and an assist as Quinnipiac ran its winning streak to three games. Cunniff was the first Quinnipiac player since the 2007 season to be named NEC Player of the Week twice in the same year and one of seven players all time at Quinnipiac. Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey captain Scott Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Saskatch-ewan) was featured in the New Haven Register on Friday, Oct. 15. The junior captain was interviewed by the Register’s Chip Malafronte for a feature dis-cussing Zurevinski’s decision to return to Quinnipiac for his junior year after being offered a contract by the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks.The Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey team defeated Bentley, 3-2, in a non-conference match-up at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. With the win, Quinnipiac improved to 2-1-0 on the season while Bentley opened the year at 0-1-0. Quinnipiac also extended its undefeated streak when leading after the second period to 52 games. Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) had 54 assists, 17 digs and six service aces as the Quinnipiac University volleyball team defeated Long Island, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center. The win was the first for the Bobcats over LIU since 2001. 10/19/2010 - On Tuesday, Oct. 19, Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey defense-man Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland) donated his hair to Locks of Love, a charitable organization that collects hair to be made into wigs for children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

The event, coordinated in conjunction with Parents Weekend, featured performances by all of Quinnipiac’s spirit groups and also intro-duced all of Quinnipiac’s varsity teams. Before the largest crowd, 3,891, for a non-conference opponent in Quin-nipiac’s TD Bank Sports Center history, freshman Kellen Jones (Montrose, B.C.) scored the first two goals of his career to lead the Bobcats to a 3-1 win against Holy Cross. Amanda Armstrong (Waukesha, Wis.) compiled a team-high 17 kills and six blocks as the Quinnipiac University volleyball team triumphed over Northeast Conference foe Fairleigh Dickinson in five sets, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at the Burt Kahn Court. The win was Quinnipiac’s third straight as they improved to 4-1-0. 10/30/2010 - The Quinnipiac University women’s cross country team won its sixth consecutive Northeast Conference Championship on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn. All 11 other coaches in the league picked the Bobcats as the favorite, making Quinnipiac the first unanimous pick since Long Island in 1997-98. Quinnipiac Head Coach Tom Moore’s vote went to Long Island, as coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Rutty took his place on the team after earning the inaugural Connecticut 6 Player of the Year Award. 11/12/2010 – Women’s ice hockey freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Missis-sauga, Ontario) recorded her first-career hat trick with three second-period goals as the Bobcats downed No. 10 Harvard, 4-1. The victory improved Quinnipiac’s overall record to 8-4-1 and its ECAC Hockey record to 3-3.

11/13/2010 - The Quinnipiac University women’s cross country team ended the 2010 season with a 20th place finish at the National Col-legiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Northeast Regionals. The women’s 6k race was hosted by Yale and Fairfield and was held at Hammonasset State Park in Madison, Conn.. Senior captain Scott Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) scored twice to lead the Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey team to a 3-1 win against Colgate for its first ECAC Hockey victory of the season. The Bobcats improved to 1-2-1 in league action and 5-4-1 overall, while Colgate dropped to 2-5-1 overall and 0-3-1 in ECAC Hockey action. 11/14/2010 - Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) compiled his 31st career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds and James Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) and Deontay Twyman (Olney, Md.) added 16 points apiece as the Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team defeated Yale, 84-75, Saturday night in the second annual Connecticut 6 Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 1-0 overall and 4-0 under Head Coach Tom Moore in season openers. 11/15/2010 - Quinnipiac University men’s soccer senior defender Pierre Soubrier (Aurignac, France) and senior defensive midfielder Tolle Staffanson (Goteborg, Sweden) were each named to the 2010 Northeast Conference Men’s Soccer Second Team All-Conference, as announced by league officials.Quinnipiac University men’s basketball junior Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) was been named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week after compiling his Quinnipiac Division I record 31st career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds against Yale in the Con-necticut 6 Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena. The article, written by Chip Malafronte, high-lighted Dalhuisen’s passion for charity work, specifically the LIVEHockey campaign he launched to raise money for leukemia research. McLoughlin was chosen amongst 19 Division I women’s soccer players in New England. The Quinnipiac University women’s soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year for its sixth consecutive season. Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Missis-sauga, Ontario) took home both ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Rookie and Player of the Week honors, while sophomore goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Wood-bridge, Ontario) was awarded Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Quinnipiac freshman Kelly Babstock was highlighted several times by her hometown newspaper’s website, www.Mississauga.com. Babstock rewrote the Quinnipiac record books, and collected honors on a weekly basis. 12/8/2010 - Amanda Bilas (Marshfield, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac Women’s soccer team was featured in her hometown newspaper, The Marshfield Mari-ner. The feature, written by Ryan Wood, highlighted the senior defender’s successful four-year career as a starter for the Bobcats. The Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey team defeated Harvard, 3-1, at the Bright Hockey Center to end a four-game losing streak that dated back to Nov. 23. Quinnipiac benefited from a two-point night from Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.), who had a goal and an assist. Clay Harvey (Gull Lake, Saskatchewan) scored the Bobcats’ first goal of the game, while John Dunbar (Calgary, Alberta) scored the go-ahead goal in the second period. Quinnipiac ran its unbeaten streak when leading after two periods to 61 games (56-0-5), dating back to the 2007 ECAC Hockey Tournament Champinship game

The win was also Quinnipi-ac’s first regular-season win at the Bright Hockey Center in program history. 12/9/2010 - Quinnipiac University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Tom Moore and Assistant Coach Eric Eaton took part in “Shots From The Heart,” a free-throw shooting contest designed to raise awareness for the growing problem of heart disease. In addition to raising heart disease awareness, the contest also paid tribute to the late Skip Prosser, who passed away in July 2007 of a heart attack. 12/10/2010 - Quinnipiac men’s soccer senior defender Pierre Soubrier (Aurignac, France) was named to the 2010 adidas National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-North Atlantic Third Team. The Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team raised money and aware-ness this season for Hoops for Heart Health, a non-profit organization that was started by NBA forward Ryan Gomes, to address the problem of sudden cardiac arrest in high school, college and professional sports. 12/11/2010 - Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) and Deontay Twyman (Olney, Md.) had 13 points apiece as the Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team defeated Rhode Island, 73-66, in front of a season-high 2,909 at the TD Bank Sports Center. The win was the first in program history against an Atlantic-10 school. Jacki Mann (Rutherford, N.J.) scored a game-high 18 points as the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team beat Army, 69-65. 12/13/2010 - Junior forward Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) of the Quin-nipiac women’s soccer team was named to the 2010 New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England second team for Division I, as announced by the NEWISA. This is the third time that Velaj has been selected to the All-New England second team. The feature, written by Geoff Campbell, highlighted Uttley’s determination to return to the Division I soccer field following a season-ending knee injury during each of the last two seasons. 12/21/10 - Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) had a feature article written about her in her home-town newspaper’s website, Mississauga.com, for the fourth time this season. The article, written by Iain Colpitts, highlighted Babstock’s tremendous suc-cess during her rookie campaign at Quinnipiac. 12/22/10 - The Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey program was highlighted on the New England Hockey Journal’s website, www.hockeyjournal.com, in its midseason report of ECAC Women’s Hockey clubs. The article, written by Mike Zhe, listed Quinnipiac as a team that posed a serious threat to Cornell, as the Big Red sought its second-consecutive league championship. 12/28/10 - The Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team, senior forward Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) and junior guard James Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) were highlighted in an ESPN.com article by Mark Adams. 12/29/10 - Senior Lailah Pratt (Palmyra, N.J.) scored the game-winning point, in the last two seconds of play, as the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team beat New Hampshire, 62-61, in its second game of the Hawk Classic. Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) tipped in a missed Bobcats shot with 3.8 seconds left as the Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team outlasted Boston University, 82-81, at Case Gym. JANUARY1/1/11 - The Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey team was the top feature story on USCHO.com (U.S. College Hockey Online) following a pair of upset wins against nationally-ranked No. 8/9 Nebraska Omaha. 1/4/11 - Senior center Courtney Kaminski (Dudley, Mass.) scored a game-high 23 points as the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team won its second Northeast Conference game of the season against Mount St. Mary’s, 77-65. Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey sophomores Loren Barron (Glendora, Calif.) and Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) earned weekly honors as announced by the ECAC Hockey office. Dave Johnson (Jackson, N.J.) added 14 points for the Bobcats, while Jamee Jackson (Newark, N.J.) contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. The Bobcats read a variety of children books to the school’s kindergarten students. 1/12/11 – Following the Quinnipiac women’s basketball game against Mount St. Mary’s, the Bobcats hosted an autograph session for a group of girls from Guilford Youth Basketball. 1/13/11 - Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) was featured in the January 17, 2011 edition of Sports Illustrated. The first-year phenom was named as one of the six “Faces In The Crowd” as selected each week by Sports Illustrated. 1/14/11 – Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey junior defender Melissa Perry (Chelsea, Mich.) was the subject of a feature article on USCHO.com. The article, written by Dan Hickling, highlighted Perry’s journey to Quinnipiac as a walk-on player to becoming an everyday leader on its defensive unit. 1/15/11 – Deontay Twyman (Olney, Md.) and Tevin Baskin (Stamford, Conn.) both registered career highs in a 73-68 win over Central Connecti-cut. Twyman scored 23 points while Baskin recorded 13 points and nine rebounds. Quinnipiac women’s basketball raised money in support of the Juvenile Dia-betes Research Foundation at its game against Central Connecticut. The team hosted a bake sale in addition to accepting donations during the game. Quinnipiac women’s indoor track team competed at the Yale Invitational and the Bobcats’ performances were highlighted by freshman Brianna Faust (Ma-cungie, Pa.), who placed third in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:29.51. 1/17/11 - For the second time in program history, the women’s ice hockey team ranked in the top-10 nationally for the week of January 17 on the US-CHO.com Division 1 Women’s Ice Hockey Poll. 1/18/11 - Quinnipiac women’s basketball senior Courtney Kaminski (Dudley, Mass.) was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week after leading the Bobcats to wins against Central Connecticut State and Bryant. 1/20/11 - Quinnipiac women’s basketball’s Felicia Barron’s thrilling last-second buzzer beater against Central Connecticut State was featured on NBC 30’s “Kevin’s 7”. “Kevin’s 7” is a weekly highlight feature hosted by NBC 30 sports anchor Kevin Nathan that showcases the top plays from the past week around Connecticut. Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey freshmen forwards Kelly Babstock (Mis-sissauga, Ontario) and Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) were highlighted in the January 2011 issue of New England Hockey Journal. 1/22/11 – Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey team hosted the U.S. National Un-der-18 Team in a game at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Quinnipiac University women’s indoor track team competed at the University of Rhode Island Invitational. For the first time in Quinnipiac his-tory, the team participated in the 55-meter hurdles. Janet Dempsey (Hanson, Mass.) finished in sixth place in 10.30 seconds, while Grace Harvey (Clinton, N.J.) crossed the finish line in 10.63. Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) placed fourth in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:09.53. In addition, Rebecca Smith (Hardyston, N.J.) ran the race in 3:14.97, for a sixth place finish. 1/24/11 – The Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team were ranked 10th in the USCHO.com Divison 1 Women’s Ice Hockey Poll. 1/25/11 - The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team was ranked second among the top Division I “Teams On The Rise”, as announced by the Omni Rankings. Omni Rankings is a free, independent fan site that uses a mathematical formula to determine which teams are among the top 25, top 25 mid-majors, and “teams on the rise” in collegiate basketball. The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team had two players recog-nized by the Northeast Conference. Sophomore Felicia (Springfield, Mass.) was named Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week, while freshman Britany McQuain (Independence Mo.) was selected as the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week. 1/26/11 - The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team was featured in a post entitled, “Are Quinnipiac and Yale in the NCAA pictures?” on the New Haven Register’s blog. Former Quinnipiac men’s soccer standout Shane Recklet (Shelton, Conn.) signed with the German Pro club SV Germania 90 Schoneiche. SV Germania 90 Schoneiche, based in the German state of Brandenburg, plays in NOFV-Oberliga in the Nord division. NOFV-Oberliga is in the fifth tier of the German Football League System. 1/27/11 - James Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) erupted for seven three-pointers and a career-high 38 points and added eight rebounds as the Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team defeated Robert Morris, 69-61, Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) returned to the court after missing seven games due to an elbow injury, contributing six points and 10 rebounds. 1/28/11 - Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey sophomore Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) was the subject of an article written by Chip Malafronte of the New Haven Register. Malafronte discussed Langlois’ transition from Arizona and being a force in the Bobcats’ offense this past season. The Quinnipiac University women’s indoor track team ran at the Terrier Invi-tational at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Mass. The Bobcats’ Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) highlighted the meet with an 18th-place finish in the 1,000-meter run. The junior crossed the finish line with a time of 3:09.41. Quinnipiac’s performances were highlighted by Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) in the 3,000-meter run. The freshman runner placed fifth in the event with a time of 10:31.03. Kristen Stevens (Succasunna, N.J.) finished next for Quinnipiac, in 5:12.37, while Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) finished with a time of 5:12.37. Competing in its first tri-meet event of the season and third event overall, the No. 3 Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling team finished third out of three teams at the Cougar Dome. The Bobcats’ combined total of 265.14 was not enough to defeat either No. 5 Fairmont State or No. 6 Azusa Pacific, which put together combined totals of 273.53 and 274.86, respectively. 2/8/11 - Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey sophomore goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) was named ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Goal-tender of the Week. Vigilanti made a combined total of 76 saves against ECAC Hockey opponents Dartmouth and Harvard. 2/9/11 - Redshirt sophomore women’s basketball guard Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) and junior men’s basketball guard James Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) was named the Quinnipiac University Athletes of the Month for January. Barron averaged 14.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game and John-son contributed 16.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Quinnipiac sophomore guard Dave Johnson (Jackson, N.J.) was the subject of a feature story in the New Haven Register. Register staff writer Bill Cloutier examined Johnson’s strong play and the way he makes his teammates better. Quinnipiac junior guard James Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) was featured in a Q&A with Sporting News Today’s Ryan Fagan. Johnson discussed his in-game hero-ics against Mount St. Mary’s and Robert Morris. The Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse team was selected as the pre-season Northeast Conference co-favorite, along with in-state rival Sacred Heart.. The Bobcats finished the 2010 regular season with a program best 8-1 record in the NEC and a 10-7 overall mark. Quinnipiac put together its third consecu-tive one-loss season in conference play en route to its third straight trip to the NEC Championship Game. Led by head coach Rick Seeley, Quinnipiac has risen quickly among women’s ice hockey ranks. Freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) recorded two goals and three assists in a decisive 5-1 victory for the Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team against ECAC Hockey opponent Rennsselaer. In addition to Babstock’s heroics, junior defender Bethany Dymarczyk (Hamden, Conn.) and junior forward Kate Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario) added a combined five assists. The Quinnipiac University women’s tennis team was selected to finish third in the Northeast Conference. The NEC coaches picked two-time defending champion Long Island as the favorite to win the league title, while last year’s runner-up, Fairleigh Dickinson, was selected second. LIU got four first-place votes, while FDU and Quinnipiac got three first-place votes apiece. The Quinnipiac University men’s lacrosse team was picked to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference. The Bobcats finished ninth amongst 12 teams with 22 points, while Long Island won their second-straight league title with 138 points.

2/14/11 - Quinnipiac University men’s basketball freshman forward Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.) was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Confer-ence Rookie of the Week. Azotam posted career highs of 16 points and 13 rebounds in the Bobcats’ 59-54 victory against Sacred Heart. The Quinnipiac men’s basketball team defeated Sacred Heart, 55-48 as Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) scored 13 points and Lance Brown (Teaneck, N.J.) added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. The game marked James Johnson’s (Queens, N.Y.) Quinnipiac Division 1 record 89th consecutive start. The Northeast Conference’s men’s tennis coaches picked Quinnipiac as the preseason favorite to repeat as league champions. The Bobcats, which cap-tured their fourth NEC Championship in the last seven years last season, took five first-place votes.2/15/11 - Quinnipiac sophomore Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) was announced as one of 15 semifinalists for the prestigious Walter Brown Award, given annually by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. With the victory, the Bobcats’ improved to 4-1, which was the best start to a season since Quinnipiac joined the Division 1 ranks. Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) turned away 24 shots from Cornell, as Quinnipiac downed the Big Red 1-0 to force a third game in the ECAC Hockey Tournament Quarterfinals. The Quinnipiac softball team defeated Ball State, 4-0, on the second day of the Under Armor Showcase. With the victory, the Bobcats extended its win streak to four games. 3/28/11 - The Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse team hosted a post-game clinic as part of its Positive Play program for the North Haven Girl’s Lacrosse bantam, junior and senior teams. The free clinic, which attracted about 80 youths, was taught by Bobcats players who assisted in the demonstration of certain skill sets and situational game-type scenarios.Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse junior midfielder Devon Gibney (Hopkin-ton, Mass.) was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week. Amanti led the baseball team to its best start in program his-tory as the Bobcats won 11 of their first 18 games. Amanti batted a team-high .364, including a team-leading 28 hits in 18 games for the month. Schwartz-burg led the softball team to a 12-win month that started with a grueling schedule in Florida. The junior hurler, and two-time NEC Pitcher of the Year, posted an 8-4 record with a 1.48 earned-run average.4/7/11 - All six Quinnipiac women’s tennis players earned double wins as the Bobcats swept intrastate Northeast Conference rival Sacred Heart, 7-0. Nagel finished seventh out of 15 golfers with a 97 (47-50), just 10 strokes off the leader. Birdsall was masterful as he struck out a career-best 12 Monmouth batters for the afternoon. In his sixth start of the season, Birdsall went the distance for just the second time this year. The right-handed pitcher was perfect through 5 2/3 innings before he walked Josh Boyd and hit Anthony Lawrence with a pitch to put two runners on base before he got Jake Gronsky to end the inning.The Quinnipiac University women’s outdoor track team competed at the Mas-sachusetts Invitational. The Bobcats were led by sophomore Andrea Szarko-wicz (Watertown, Conn.), who placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Quinnipiac’s Szarkowicz set a personal record, as she finished the 3,000-me-ter steeplechase in third place with a time of 11.15.84. The Bobcats also saw strong performances in the 1,500-meter run as sophomore Becca White (Natick, Mass.) placed fifth in 4:38.85 and Kristen Stevens (Succasunna, N.J.) finished in sixth with a time of 4.39.16.The Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling team finished its inaugural National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association’s National Championship weekend by placing third in four of the five individual rounds in which it competed. Jess Rusin (Garwood, N.J.) accounted for half of Quinnipiac’s goals in a three-goal, one-assist showing at the tournament while Kaitlyn Notarianni (Clarks Summit, Pa.) had a pair of assists. With the win, the Bobcats (12-8, 5-0 NEC) advanced to face fourth-seeded Sacred Heart in the semifinals.4/16/11 - James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) clinched the third-seeded Quinnipiac University men’s tennis team’s 4-2 victory against second-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson with the 100th victory of his collegiate career in the Northeast Conference Tournament Semifinals. The Bobcats took the doubles point and wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 6 singles to punch their ticket to the NEC Tournament Championship match against intrastate rival Sacred Heart.The top-seeded Quinnipiac University women’s tennis team fended off No. 4 Sacred Heart, 5-1, to advance to the Northeast Conference Tournament Championship match. Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) put the Bobcats on top, 2-1, with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, victory against Darcy Demers at No. 4. Brianna Tansey (Nashua, N.H.) shot a 46 through nine holes on a rain-shortened second day of Columbia University’s Roar-EE Invitational at Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y. Quinnipiac finished 13th out of the 13 teams at the event. Tansey’s two-day total of 140 (94-46) put her in 61st place. Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, Minn.) shot a team-best 43 on the second day, but a first-day 104 put her at 147 for the tournament, tied with teammate Jennifer Forlenza (Wayne, N.J.), also with a 147 (93-54).The Quinnipiac University women’s outdoor track team ran at the Brown Invitational. It marked the fourth time that Schwartzburg earned the award.4/19/11 - Former Quinnipiac University baseball player Mike Marmo is playing in his second season of professional baseball in the Italian Baseball League for Reggio Emilia. Marmo played for Reggio last season, helping the team to Italy’s Series A Championship.4/21/11 – The Quinnipiac baseball team defeated Wagner, 6-5, as junior captain Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) was 4-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs to give him a team-leading five for the year. Migani also increased his season-leading RBI total to 27 after he drove in three runs. 4/22/11 – The Quinnipiac softball team defeated Sacred Heart, 2-0, in a Northeast Conference match-up. The Bobcats were led by junior pitcher Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.), who pitched a complete game to improve her 2011 record to 17-9. Caroleo becomes just the second player in program history to earn the honor, joining midfielder Tiffany Manzi who earned the award in 2008. The win, paired with a Mount St. Mary’s double-overtime loss to Bryant, gives the Bobcats a share of the 2011 NEC Regular Season Championship.5/1/11 - The Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse team earned its first-ever North-east Conference Tournament Championship with a 15-3 victory over Mount St. Mary’s at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field.
