MARI KONATE

Mari Konate (pro-nounced my-ree coo-nah-tay) will add to the Cowboy inside game this season. He’ll give the team another solid rebounder and he is expected to pick up his shooting game. He’s a native of France and made his way to McNeese through the junior college ranks, having played last year at USC (South Caro-lina) Salkehatchie JC. Prior to that he played one season at Sheri-dan College. Mari can play both the small and power forward posi-tions but will probably be used more this sea-son as a power forward. What the Cowboys will be looking for from him is a defensive presence in the post area. He’s

very athletic, can guard multiple positions and can run the transtion game.

Pre-McNeese: played last season for USC Salkehatchie junior college where he av-eraged 4.4 rebounds and and 4.2 points per game. He was one of two players from the team who signed with a Division I squad after the season. He played both forward positions and also saw some action at center....prior to that he played for Sheridan College where in the 2007-08 season he averaged 4.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game...he had high individual scoring games of 16 points (twice)....he wound up

ADRIAN FIELDS

Adrian Fields could be the most versatile player on the team. He can play multi-ple positions and play them well. He has not played since his high school senior year of 2008-9, but he’s expected to come in and provide immediate help for the Cowboys. He can play the one, two or three positions and with his size the Cowboys could go big at the point.

Pre-McNeese: he was one of the state’s top performers as a high school senior at Opelousas High. He averaged 18 points, eight rebounds, 10 as-sists and two steals per game. These were av-erages he posted early in the year as he was

of the season with an injury. He also went on to play AAU basketball during the summer and was a teammate of cur-rent Cowboy standout Patrick Richard. Adri-an played high school ball for Coach James Rollins who said that McNeese has a player who can do it all. “He’s smart and he knows the game. After he got hurt in his senior year he sat right next to me every game and got to learn the game. He was well on his way to becoming the team MVP and earning all-district honors before he was injured,” said the coach. Fields was to have played every position on the team for Rollins his senior year at Opelousas High.

Will Brown is a trans-fer from the Univeristy of New Mexico who will serve out a redshirt season this year. He will be eligible to play in the 2011-2012 sea-son and have two years of play. He can be a difference maker.

Pre-McNeese: he played two seasons at New Mexico and averaged 4.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 35 games last year...he made 49.2 percent

Rudy Turner trans-ferred in from UL Mon-roe and he will be sitting out the season, having one year left with the Cowboys. He’s a big presence underneath the goal and he can rebound and score with the best. Could become one of the better big men to play for the Cowboys.
