The key to this flexible response is the standard-fitted AGILITY CONTROL package which includes

selective damping. Even more sophisticated handling technology is optional available in the form of the new

DYNAMIC HANDLING package with special sports mode which allows you to adjust the vehicles handling

at the touch of a button. And with a range of thrilling engines to choose from, the C-Class can be specified

to match just about any taste.

Youll also find that the interior offers noticeably more space - and, thanks to fine materials and a new design

- a more distinctive atmosphere. Whether you give it a more sporty feel or put particular emphasis on comfor

DYNAMIC HANDLING package

The DYNAMIC HANDLING package with special

sports mode allows you to match the C-Class to

your mood. A touch of a button is all it takes to give

the chassis a distinctly sporty set-up

One of the principal innovations in the C-Class, the DYNAMIC HANDLING package

with special sports mode is an electronically controlled damping system which constantly

adjusts to the driving situation and the condition of the road. This makes for a smoother

ride, increases handling safety and, above all, makes the vehicle more agile.

Equipped with the DYNAMIC HANDLING package, the C-Class sits 15 millimetres lower

than standard and has noticeably more dynamic handling thanks to the modified spring

and damper set-up. The package also includes speed-sensitive power steering which

has a sportier feel and conveys an even greater sense of control. Although the different

elements are under fully automatic control, it is possible to intervene manually:

by pressing a button, you can tell the system whether your preference is for a sporty

driving experience or a distinctly comfort-oriented one. With sports mode selected, the

system not only adjusts the firmness of the damping, but also sharpens the accelerator

response. Assuming, of course, that you are in the mood for it. Otherwise, you can

simply choose the comfort mode and enjoy a particularly smooth and comfortable ride.

The air resistance of the C-Class BlueEFFICIENCY

has been reduced thanks to the carefully calculated

adjustment of a number of details. Smooth underbody

cladding, for example, allows the airflow to pass

under the vehicle with little turbulence. The joints

between the bonnet and the headlamps as well as

between the bumper and the headlamps have been

sealed to provide even better airflow over the front

section of the vehicle. All of which means that your

C-Class BlueEFFICIENCY uses less fuel and has lower

CO2 emissions.

Proficiently efficient: the C-Class BlueEFFICIENCYThe BlueEFFICIENCY measures: the Mercedes-Benz

efficiency package. An engineer who wants to save

fuel needs one radical idea or a whole raft of small -

but still very well thought-out - solutions. As in our

BlueEFFICIENCY vehicles, for example. In developing

these models, our engineers analysed every detail

to identify those which could be made to work even

efficiently. The numerous measures they developed as

a result range from drag reduction and lightweight

materials to an intelligent energy management

system and an improved, more energy-efficient power

steering system. Each of these enhancements reduces

fuel consumption. Although only a small amount is

saved by each measure individually, their combined

impact is remarkable:

the combination of the Mercedes-Benz BlueEFFICIENCY

package and our efficient engines cuts fuel consumption

- and with it CO2 emissions - by up to 23%.

So as well as getting you to your destination, our

BlueEFFICIENCY models help to move environmental

protection forward, too.

Comfort Interior

Why long trips are going to seem

much too short from now onYour very own comfort zone: the spacious interior of the C-Class

With its soft materials, fine trim elements and more space than ever, the interior of

the C-Class is particularly inviting. The position of the drivers seat has been raised

slightly and shoulder and elbow room increased. The rear passengers will also quickly

feel at home thanks to their increased legroom.

The newly developed front seats are equipped with a lumbar support for the driver and

are electrically adjustable for cushion height and backrest inclination. These settings

and others, such as the steering wheel position, head-restraint height and exterior

mirror position, can be stored by means of the memory package. Your personal settings

are recalled as soon as you settle into the drivers seat and insert the ignition key.

You will find that the C-Class also offers plenty of space if you ever need to transport

objects rather than passengers.

A driving environment which allows you to concentrate on the task in hand is not just

a luxury, it is also a major safety feature. It all starts with the well-designed drivers area:

the new dashboard is horizontally structured and positioned higher than in the predecessor

model. The three-tube instrument cluster is situated in the drivers immediate field of vision

and provides information about key operating parameters. Depending on the equipment

version, you can use the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel to control various

comfort features while keeping both hands on the steering wheel.

A comfortable travelling environment comes courtesy of the THERMATIC two-zone

automatic climate control which is fitted as standard in the new C-Class.

A theory which can save lives in practicePRO-SAFETM: the integral safety concept from Mercedes-Benz

The best example is our vision of accident-free driving which is

closer today than ever before thanks to PRO-SAFE TM. This integsafety concept from Mercedes-Benz divides automative safety i

four phases.

During the journey, the vehicle helps the driver to identify crit

situations promptly and handle them safely. In the second phas

just before a potential accident, numerous preventive measure

can be activated to reduce the risk of injury. In the event of an

accident, the occupants can benefit from effective, individualis

protection provided by the comprehensive range of passive saf

systems. Finally, the fourth component comprises the phase af

an accident when further measures come into play - to make th

task of the rescue services easier, for example.

If there is one area more than any other that drives us to ever

greater achievements, it is researching new safety technologies.As early as the 1950s, we passed an important safety milestone

when legendary vehicle safety pioneer Bla Barnyi invented the

passenger safety cell.

This era also saw revolutionary ideas put forward by many

others - such as Rolf Maier. In order to be able to study the crash

performance of steering and restraint systems quickly and cost-

effectively, Rolf Maier and his engineer colleagues designed and

built a special sled which was to be driven into a wall at high speed.

When they needed to create a crumple zone, the team came up

with a simple, yet brilliant solution: gherkin tins from the staff

restaurant - a typical example of the creative spirit which

characterised this pioneering time. As much as we like to reflect

on the past, though, our focus has always been firmly on the future.

17Safety PRE-SAFE

Or leave them to your carReady in a fraction of a second: the safety systems

Where safety is concerned, you can never start too early - in the case of the C-Class,

it begins with a particularly ergonomically designed interior, where every switch and

every function is easy to operate. Intelligent systems, such as COMAND APS or LINGUA-TRONIC ensure that you can keep both hands on the steering wheel. When driving you

can count on over 60 eletronic support systems. Some are designed to alert you in the

event of a problem - the tyre pressure loss warning system, for example. Others are

there to provide active assistance, such as the Electronic Stability Program ESP, Brake

Assist BAS and, for the first time in the C-Class, ESP trailer stabilisation. The ESP and

BAS sensors can detect hazardous driving situations - such as pronounced oversteer or

understeer, vigorous steering movements, emergency and panic braking - and can assist

the driver accordingly.

Theres more. When faced with situations which are typically associated with hazards,

the C-Class can initiate preventive measures to protect the occupants - with the optional

PRE-SAFE system. This comprises a reversible seat-belt tensioning function, automatic

positioning of the front passenger seat (if electrically adjustable and equipped with the

memory function) and automatic closure of side windows.

Numerous occupant protection systems can reduce the risk of injury in an accident

considerably: in the event of a rear-end collision, for example, sensors cause the

standard-fit NECK-PRO head restraints for the driver and front passenger to move

forward and upward in a few microseconds in order to support the head at an earlier

stage. This reduces the risk of whiplash significantly.

The C-Class is also equipped with belt tensioners on the front and outer rear seats as

well as a wide range of airbags including two-stage driver and front-passenger airbags

and windowbags which cover almost the entire side window area. The C-Class helps to

protect other road users, too, with features such as the smooth body surfaces with thei

extensive, programmed yielding properties.

In order to reduce the risk of further damage being caused following an accident and

to simplify the task of rescuing the occupants, various different measures are taken

automatically depending on the nature and severity of the accident. These include

turning off the engine and cutting off the fuel supply, switching on the emergency inter

lighting, opening the side windows and unlocking the doors. To complete its holistic

safety philosophy, Mercedes-Benz has also published multilingual rescue guidelines

(accessible worldwide on the internet) as an additional aid for the emergency services

The first time you set eyes on your C-Class ELEGANCE is a very

special moment. From the star standing on the bonnet, your gaze

travels to the fog lamps with their elegant chrome surrounds.

More chrome elements can be seen on the bumpers, wings anddoors. The polished aluminium shoulderline trim strip adds

a particularly stylish highlight to the sides of the C-Class.

The body-colour door handles have a discreet chrome insert on th

top face and the rear of the C-Class ELEGANCE is distinguished b

a chromed handle strip. Stylish 17-inch 12-spoke light-alloy wheel

add the perfect finishing touch.

Inside, the tone is set by a discreet combination of colours. A leath

steering wheel is fitted as standard. The seats have decorative

vertical stitching and the trim elements are in Burr Walnut.

AVANTGARDE is no exception. The look of the front instantlyconveys a sense of power and agility - take the wide radiator grille

with its three bright silver louvres, distinctive chrome strips and the

dominant star set in the centre. A range of chrome highlights - on

the bumpers, wings and doors, for example - emphasize the sleek

profile of the C-Class. Eye-catching touches include a polished alumini

shoulderline trim strip and the chrome band around the car.

Contrasting colours and materials lend the interior its sporty

A touch of sportiness. The AMG Sports Package tops the line

with its performance-derived interior and exterior design concept.

The steering wheel gearshift paddles make gear changing a breeze

beside the aluminium-look gearshift lever. Other interior components

of the AMG Sports Package include a 3-spoke steering wheel,

brushed stainless steel sports pedals with rubber studs and floor

mats with AMG lettering.

Excellent road holding is provided by the lowered sports suspensi

and 18-inch 5 twin spoke AMG alloy wheels with mixed tyres. The

exterior design is accentuated by front and rear aprons and side
