Take the genius that went into the single ended amp made famous by Shawn Lane on Powers of Ten – and add thirty years of amp design expertise.

Early in his career, Bob created an amp line to capture the sounds he loved by Clapton, Hendrix and others. Yet unlike other builders, Bob focused on the sound of those recordings - not the sound of the raw amps used on the records.

The result? The large, 8-power tube equipped single ended amp embraced by Shawn Lane on Powers of Ten. It dwarfed other amps in tone and harmonics - and it’s the inspiration for Bob’s new 30-watt single ended amp to be offered by PBG.

The new amp sacrifices none of the thick harmonic content of its big brother while offering the same crushing tone at a more reasonable volume. It is being produced by PBG Amp Master Builder Mark Bartel at the Tone King workshop in Baltimore. Mark and Bob are in contact at every stage of the build. Stay tuned.

Premier Builders Guild (PBG) makes it easier than ever before to experience boutique, masterbuilt guitars and amps.

PBG is a dream team of elite master builders supported by proven management, marketing, production and dealer service teams. Each master builder makes specific models or their entire brand available exclusively through PBG. All PBG instruments are built in the USA.

Water, Wood, Metal, Fire. Each model in the b3 Guitar line from master builder Gene Baker is aimed at a specific tonal space. All are straight-ahead tools for serious musicians.

A Gibson® Custom Shop master builder at age 25, Gene later moved to Fender® Custom Shop, where he was named master builder and then senior master builder. While at Fender®, Gene collaborated with Robben Ford on three models and also created original “Gene Baker” pieces.

Gene eventually left Fender® in order to apply his vast expertise to his own nameplate. He heads the PBG workshop in Arroyo Grande, California, where he designs and builds b3 Guitars as well as models designed by PBG master builders Dennis Fano, Roger Giffin, Johan Gustavsson, Saul Koll and Jason Z. Schroeder. Gene shreds regularly, with his Mean Gene Band.

He lives inside the box. Master builder Mark Bartel has focused on nothing but the design, construction and perfection of the vacuum tube amplifier for over thirty years.

Mark tests and retests countless wood, component and configuration combinations until he hears sound worthy of the name Tone King. Off the shelf parts? Not here. Mark works with USA-based manufacturers to develop custom components that meet his demanding requirements.

Mark’s first vacuum tube amp model, the Imperial, is a trusted small venue standard. His Metropolitan model features Phase-4 power control, a breakthrough in vacuum tube amp technology that ensures consistent tone from 0.1W to 40W, clean or gained up, in big venues or small. Mark and PBG recently introduced the Metropolitan Head, in response to numerous requests from dealers and customers.

Vintage taken forward. That’s the Alt de Facto guitar line from master builder Dennis Fano.

Imagine an alternate reality where the great American luthiers of the 1950’s work together under one roof, as a collective. That’s the vision that inspires Dennis and his Alt de Facto boutique guitars. It’s a world where aged nickel hardware, time-tested woods, a distressed lacquer finish and classic aesthetics are fused with modern features including a compound radius fingerboard, TonePros hardware, ToneStyler tone controls and custom wound Fralin pickups. The result? Proprietary distressed guitars with unsurpassed playability and tone.

Alternate reality realized – and embraced by leading artists including Chris Carrabba, Popa Chubby, Jared Scharff, James Valentine and Pete Yorn. Alt de Facto guitars are built to exact specifications by PBG Guitar Master Builder Gene Baker at the PBG USA Workshop. Gene and Dennis are in close contact at every stage of the build.

“My philosophy is to make the amp sound like the guitar. If you plug in a 1956 Strat and then a 1961 Strat, I want you to hear and feel the difference. The struggle to accomplish that is my bliss.”

Design visionary Bill Krinard co-founded Two-Rock in 1999 based on his passionate commitment to create the best-sounding guitar amps available. During that first year Carlos Santana bought Two Rock number 5, and Bill spent the afternoon tweaking the amp for Carlos.

Two-Rock has since emerged as a boutique amp innovation leader. Bill is responsible for circuit and application innovations that have moved the entire category forward. He has created signature Two-Rock models for John Mayer, Eric Gales and Steve Kimock. And he’s seen the brand embraced by additional artists including Matt Schofield, Volker Strifler, Terry Haggerty Mark Karan and many more.

Working with great artists has helped Bill to develop the unique Two Rock voice; a voice you can hear throughout the Two-Rock line.

Breakthrough design that’s strikingly new yet comfortably familiar - and always exceedingly beautiful. The Glide Series is designed by master builder Saul Koll to be nothing less than playable art.

While playing lead guitar and singing for The Charms, an acclaimed band circa 1984-1995, Saul engaged an even greater passion: the creation of guitars that are uniquely “then” and “now.” Mentored by Jon Peterson and Glen Mers at The World of Strings in Long Beach, Saul launched Koll Guitar Company in 1990. His clients include especially discriminating artists like David Torn, Elliott Sharp, Lee Ranoldo and Matte Henderson.

Glide models are built to exact specifications by fellow master builder Gene Baker at the PBG USA workshop. Saul and Gene communicate frequently throughout the build. The result? A new standard for players who demand beauty in shape and tone.

A Premier Guitar magazine Artisan Award winner for his Radio Lane model, master builder Jason Z. Schroeder is a rising star in lutherie.

As lead guitarist in Clear Cut, an acclaimed regional band that gigs regularly, Jason has a deep understanding of what works and what doesn’t in the live environment. He reflects that in the design of his guitars. Jason’s clients include Lindsey Buckingham and Neale Haywood of Fleetwood Mac, Tommy Kessler (Blondie, Blue Man Group, Broadway’s Rock of Ages) and Chris Traynor (Gavin Rossdale).

Standard versions of Jason’s Edge, Chopper and Radio Lane models are built to spec by master builder Gene Baker at the PBG USA workshop. (Custom versions are available directly from Schroeder Guitars). Jason and Gene are in close contact throughout the build. The result: balanced tones, easy playability and lasting value.

“My idea was to recreate the sound and feel of the old classics, but with a unique and distinctive design of my own.” Swedish master builder Johan Gustavsson perfectly captures that vision in his acclaimed Bluesmaster series.

Johan’s work with guitars spans well over two decades, and covers almost every aspect of the instrument. It gives him great understanding of what he calls “the inner being” of a guitar. Johan’s career includes experience as a carpenter of fine furniture, a touring and session guitarist, and an expert repairer and restorer of vintage guitars.

Johan’s Bluesmaster Junior and Special models are built to exact specifications by fellow master builder Gene Baker at the PBG USA workshop. Johan and Gene are in close contact at every stage of the build, for unsurpassed quality.

His story begins in 1960’s London, when many of the guitar gods we pray to were regular customers at Giffin Guitar Workshop, located under a bridge by the river Thames.

Since that time, boutique guitar master builder Roger Giffin’s passion, expertise and design innovations have resulted in peerless instruments that place him in the pantheon of lutherie. His extensive artist list is among the most impressive in the industry.

Now Roger brings us the Valiant single cutaway, his beautifully playable response to the many artists who have asked him, “Roger, can you make me a Les Paul?”

The Valiant is built to Roger’s exact design specifications by fellow PBG master builder Gene Baker in our state of the art USA workshop. Roger is in contact with Gene at every stage of the build, to ensure flawless execution.

“PBG overcomes boutique limitations. For the first time, the tremendous potential of ‘boutique’ can be fully realized by dealers and their customers.”

Jimmy Lovinggood brings over 25 years of management, sales and marketing experience to PBG dealer relationships, including four years as General Manager of one of the leading independent guitar retailers in the industry. Jimmy’s experience leaves him deeply aware of the importance of contact and service: “I try to build partnerships. That means my dealer’s problems are my problems, and it’s up to me to offer effective solutions.”

Jimmy is based in Playa Vista, CA but his roots are in Detroit. At age 13, he became the bass player in his friend (now PBG master builder) Gene Baker’s band. Jimmy likes to unwind by playing his b3 guitar until the neighbors bang on the wall.
