Q: Now that you’ve worked with both your assistant coaches for at least one full season, do you feel they’ve adapted to your style and work well with the girls?*���<�� � �� (����������� `��/�;��|�����/���+�����&�+�/��beginning. Maite has really great ideas and is evolving into one of the top female coaches out there. She is ultra competitive, hungry, wants to win ����� ��&���&��������q/�����`� ��%/��/� ��&���<���;�������� �$������ �������&�/� ��&��&�+��K��+�����������;��/�&�+�&��&� ��� �|��<�with the defending aspects of our team. ����� `��� �&���� ����/� �q�&`��/�������/��� � �����&����������� ���-ate about the game which is really a breath of fresh air for us all. I will ��+����+$�/�+�&���$����/�+�� �/����` ���&��$����$&���� ������ ��;�&�����&�+�� � �� ����*/�$�/�/� �+����&� ��� �|��<�� ����`����& (�/����� ��������;�$�|��q�&`�q�/�;����(� ��$����������/�����q�&`���&�the players.

Q: What can we expect from your new recruits this season?A: I am really excited about this class of nine. It is a well balanced class and it gives us depth in nearly every position. We have athleticism, speed, ��+����;��� (���/�������<�& (� +�&����� ����+�`�& (��&���;�� ����&���<�& ����� �&��<����&����&�$����������*����/� ����<�& �����+�`�����impact on the starting line-up right from the start.

Q: You have Ashley O’Brien coming in from UConn. How will her experience on a top Big East team help the Dons? A: Having Ashley on our team is really exciting for us. She brings a whole new level of experience. She has been part of a huge soccer program at UConn and her experience will help our team and the young players around her as we go through the season. She is a gifted athlete who can ��<��$ ����|��`��&�q����+������&������/�&� �����%/��/� �����������/��q����q�/�&������$��������q��/�����`�����<������%/��� ��$�/(�������;�(�����/� ���q����q��

Q: The senior class is small with just three girls, but they’ve been here a long time and have been big assets to the team. How will their leadership and experience effect the other women on the team?A: Kelly, Sam and Kristina are all special players and great people. They have been with me since the beginning and we have been through a lot together. Not only are they all super talented individuals, the way they have all matured over the last couple of years is a credit to themselves ����/��&���+��� ��K�`��q�/�<��&��/$�������� ����/���$^^����/� ���+������;�&<����q����`���/�+����$����$ �/&�$�/�/���������/��������these young women has done a fantastic job of representing USF on the �����������/���� &��+��{/�<���/�;������&$���� �����������<������a higher level after college and I am excited to see them perform in their ���������� �� ���

Q: How is team chemistry? Have you gone on any fun team bonding outings?A: Chemistry is going to be one of the most important factors for our team. K�q��|���$&�q��/�+������/�������X��/�;���������(�&� ��������q�&`���&��������/�&�����|��$� �� /��K��+���`�������$&�&�$&��& ���|�����$ �;�������`��/���&� /+���$���&�/��&�q��� ��&�+���<������{/��}$��`�&�we decide to come together, the more successful our team will be in their results.

We have some fun things planned for preseason…all a secret of course!

Q: After two tough seasons, do you feel the team is now primed to make a jump in the West Coast Conference?A: Absolutely. We have spent the past two seasons assembling a new ��+(��$��������������� (��`�����|�$��&�� �����q�< �q����$��improve. Everyone has been amazing and bought into this new regime. K���&��&����+�&�;�(�<�$�/�;����+�`��+� �`� ���_�q(�q���&��&���<����`��/������ �������q��/�;�����&�;���$& �;� ������&��$����K�� �&��<��|�$���;�����;�&</�������/�������������&���/����������+�������+�(������`������ ���<|��<��

Q: What are your goals heading into 2009?*���|;��$ <(�q��q�����+�;����&q�&���&�+�� �<��&��K��+<��& � �� ���/�&�(�q�����`���$��q��q�� ��� �<��&�q� ��;�(� ��q���&����`���������|�<����/��������������X��q�����|��|��&������ �;�<�����`����games much tighter. On the road, we want to get more results. At this level, if you want to win games, you cannot afford to let one goal in, as you then need to score two. We want to compete for a WCC Championship, see if we can edge out from the bottom two of the WCC. At home, we want to be passionate and proud of our stadium and want our team to get after ������� ������$�/�+����/��&�|��`����� I want the players to develop and become better students, soccer play-ers and people. With a strong group of returners and a relatively large incoming freshman group, we need to come together.

Q: Talk about the players, position-by-position: *��K��+�&��<���������|�$�/��q/��� }$�����&�/� �����K�����q��/�;��great athleticism, great leadership, some experience and a little bit of youth, which will bode well for us.

Goalkeepers: ����K�����(�q��/�;��/&��� ��������� ������`��&�+��Z�<�5�/��/� �|���� ������&�$ �����&�;��$ �<��& ������ ���&����+��&�����&����$&�|��`�����%/��� ��$�(���++��� �/��|��`���$&�����+�`� �/���+��&��� �;� ��%/��� ����&��������/�&�����<��&�����K�`��q� /��� ��������������$�q�/�a bang. Behind her, we have Sarah Garland. She has come on really strong this past spring and I have seen huge improvements, notably in her `��`������+���_���%��&�q�������&�����+�����������%/��� ��/���(�competitive and wants to play.

Q: How did the team fare in spring ball?A: This past spring was a very productive experience for all involved. His doctorate is in Catechetics and his particular ex-pertise focuses on the Hispanic community in the Catholic Church.

Prior to his appointment at USF, Father Privett served as provost and academic vice president at Santa Clara University. As provost, he was responsible for oversight of student life, intercollegiate athletics, as well as academic affairs. While teaching at Santa Clara, he was recognized for Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership with /��%��& ����|$�`�#�$�������*q�&��

Early in his career, Father Privett was an instructor at Jesuit High School in Sacramento and Principal of Bellarmine College Prepara-tory in San Jose.

He currently serves as a trustee of Seattle University, Universi-dad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, and Sacred Heart Schools San Francisco. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth Club of California, Board of Directors of the Amer-ican Council on Education, Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, Public Architecture, and the Fromm Institute. Father Privett also serves as an honorary member of the San Francisco Host Committee.

Father Privett is spearheading the largest capital campaign in USF /� �&<�� �{/��)�+������ ��&�:%#(�q/��/�q�� ����$��� �������(�/� �&�� ����;�&������+������q�&� �� �������������+�������K�� ������-traordinary initiative that impacts the entire University. To date, the :��;�& �<�/� ���;� ��� ��������<� ������������ � �������&� $-dents, renovating academic facilities, technology upgrades and a staged renovation of the facilities in Memorial Gym.

Regarding USF athletics, Fr. Our spring sports teams then added to their accolades, propelling us into second overall in the WCC standings. The 2008-09 year proved to be a successful one for the USF Athlet-ic Department as seven of its athletic programs advanced to their re-spective NCAA Tournaments. By virtue of winning WCC titles, men’s soccer and men’s golf earned automatic bids to the postseason, while volleyball and women’s golf earned at-large bids to the postseason �$&��+��� ���&� ��� /���� ������ ��� ���$�� ������ �� ���� � ����q�+��� �&��`��������(��&� ���$�&<�����q�+��� ����� ����/�/���individuals from their programs selected to compete in the national postseason.

During 2008-09, USF also claimed many of the West Coast Confer-ence’s top honors, landing three Player of the Year accolades, three Coach of the Year honors and a Freshman of the Year nod. On the coaching side, men’s golf head coach Gary Nelson, men’s soccer /��������/��&�`�[� �&�����q�+��� �����/��������/������$��^���were named the WCC Coach of the Year for their respective sports. USF also added 20 First Team All-West Coast Conference honors to its list of 2008-09 accomplishments.

One of the most nota-ble improvements at Negoesco Stadium was the installation of banners celebrating the rich legacy and tradition of USF Soccer. Six national championship banners will hang alongside banners celebrating the Dons glorious postseason past.

Dedicated to and orchestrated by USF Men’s Soccer legend Stephen Ne-��� ��(�/�� ���$+���&+�<�����������%���+|�&���(��"!�(�when a sellout crowd saw USF topple Indiana, 3-2, in over-time. The building of the stadium was truly a team effort with �/��������� (��$+��(���&+�&���<�& ������&���� ����������a hand.

A series of renovations and improvements over the past cou-ple of years, have transformed the stadium into one of the pre-+��&�;��$� ����/��X� �)�� ��{/��+� � ����������/�����occurred prior to the 2003 season with the installation of
