Twenty-three years ago the Grand Prairie MetroRotary Club conducted the first Lake Joe Pool

Pumpkin Run. Since that first event, the club hasdistributed over $246,500 to local and regional

charities from funds raised by the Pumpkin Run.

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian

service, encourages high ethical standards in allvocations, and helps build good will and peace

in the world. Rotary International’s motto, “Service Above Self,” is best described in Rotary’s Four Way Test. Of the things we think, say or do:

Is it true? Is it fair to all concerned?Will it build good will and better friendships?

Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The 23rd Annual Lake Joe Pool Pumpkin Runpresented by Baylor Medical Center at Irving

reaches out to youth and to families and doesn’t just emphasize adult and elite runners.

The Alzheimers’ Association whose goal is toeliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the

advancement of research; to provide and enhancecare and support for all affected; and to reduce therisk of dementia through the promotion of brain

health is the major recipient of monies raised by this year’s Pumpkin Run.

23rd Annual Lake Joe Pool Run presented by Baylor Medical Center at Irving consists of three events: a 1-mile fun run, 10K run, and 5K run or walk.

• SCHOOL CHALLENGE

The Grand Prairie Metro Rotary is again inviting you to comejoin in the fun and excitement at the 2009 Elementary andMiddle School Challenge. This is agreat way for you tosupport your school and community and have fun at thesame time.

To be eligible for prize monies, participating School Challengeschools must have a minimum of 50participants. Team mayconsist of students, parents, friends, and teachers.

The top five schools will receive:

• 1st Place Team Award and $500

• 2nd Place Team Award and $400

• 3rd Place Team Award and $300

• 4th Place Team Award and $200
