On behalf of the Board of Directors of The Masters Basketball Association, the Sponsors and the Staff, I want to welcome you to the1st National Senior Championships operated by the Masters Basketball Association. In reality, we are really continuing a tradition of 25 years of Masters Basketball excellence.

We have 36 teams entered this year in what looks to be a very competitive field. This is just 6 teams short of our capacity. We are very gratified that the Team Organizers and players have expressed confidence in our product, especially in light of a very challenging economic climate. You said, “If you build it, we will come.” We have built it and you are on your way.

I especially want to thank Dave Hulett for climbing back into the harness as our Chief Operating Officer and Tournament Director. Dave has been the driving force behind the success of the South Florida tournament for many years. His knowledge, experience and insistence on a high standard of quality have really made the Coral Springs tournament second to none.

If this is your first time in this tournament, you are in for a unique experience. You will find the competition every bit as fierce as any you may have experienced at any level of play, yet you will also find a spirit of true sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Thanks for coming, have a great tournament.

Best regards,

Kevin J. McNamaraChairman of the Board

BASKETBALL THOUGHTS

The Wisdom of John Wooden – age 99

Success“Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction

in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.”

“First and foremost is my belief that success is within the grasp of each and every one of us. Success, as I define it, is not determined by fame, fortune, or being number 1.”

Competitive GreatnessPerforming at your best when your best is needed; a love for the hard battle.

The great competitors he has played for, coached, and admired through many decades shareajoyderivedfromthestruggleitself–thejourney—becauseonlyinthatgreateffort of preparation and performance is there opportunity to bring forth your best, a personal

greatness that cannot be diminished because of a final score or the bottom line.

Leadership“Over and over I have taught those under my supervision that we are all given a certain

potential unique to each of us. Our first responsibility is to make the utmost effort to bring forth that potential in service to our team. For me, that is success.”

“Agoodcoachisoutonthefloorwiththeteam–demonstrating, instructing, correcting, and rubbing and bumping elbows. Is the same true in your job? How can you be effective

if you’re hidden away in your office? How do you build relationships if your team members never see you? Or if they never get the chance to rub elbows with you. A coach who stays

in the office sending our memos to the players won’t have much of a team. Leadershiprequiresthatyoulaceupyoursneakersandgetoutonthefloor.”

RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Diagnostic modalities include MRI, ultrasound, CT, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, radiology, PET Scan and mammography. The CT/MRI Imaging Center, a component of the Radiology Department, offers state-of-the-art screening exams including total body CT, cardiac calcium scoring and virtual colonoscopy.

ORTHOPAEDIC SERVICES

The Orthopaedic Unit specializes in neurosurgical, orthopaedic treatment and trauma cases. Outpatient rehabilitation therapy, including physical, occupationaland speech therapy is available.

CARDIAC SERVICES

Cardiac services provides a complete line of cardiac diagnostic testing. Non-invasive cardiac procedures include EKG, Holter Monitors, stress tests, nuclear medicine scans, cardiac ultrasound imaging, transesophageal echocardiography and tilt table-testing. A more invasive cardiac procedure called diagnostic cardiac catheterization assists in diagnosing cardiac anatomy and disease process involving the coronary artery or cardiac valves.

DIABETES CENTERThe Diabetes Center is a comprehensive,

self-management program recognized by the American Diabetes Association. It provides personalized educational classes to better assist patients in understanding diabetes. M3879 02/08
