Energy Conservation

When I joined Hausmann fifteen years ago, my first project was to reduce our lighting requirements,achieved by replacing our factory and office lighting with T8 fluorescent fixtures with reflectors. This improved our illumination and saved almost 50% on our lighting electric usage. Little things like “lights out at lunch” in the factory produce significant savings for the environment.

Solar Energy In 2008 we were approved for a 365 KW solar array on our roof and we anticipate going on line this spring. This will help reduce the grid energy we consume, and, in a small way, help reduce the need for more power generation plants.

Recycling and Reuse Programs We started a paper and cardboard recycling program 10 years ago and in 2007 weexpanded this to reuse cartons we receive from our vendors. This saves energy and helpsgreen our planet — please be mindful of this when you receive boxes that do not show theHausmann logo and may not look pristine. We return skids to our vendors when practical, as well as reuse and recycle as many skids as possible. We alwayslook to reduce packaging without sacrificing the integrity of our delivered products.

Greener Manufacturing Our manufacturing methods include using water-based white glues for our 32mm dowel andglue construction as well as a “green” glue for most of our laminating needs. California enacted new laws requiring lower levels of formaldehyde emissions effective January1st, 2009, and Hausmann already meets this requirement (CARB I) on all of the products we

manufacture. In January 2011, CARB II will require even lower emissions and we plan to exceed these requirements.Our Green-Line of products will not only meet CARB laws but will have no added urea-formaldehyde and no PVCs for safer air quality and healthier patients. Our new PVC-free Urethane fabrics meet CAL 01350 requirements.

Paper Conservation Over the past decade we have printed our catalogs on recycled paper and now we only sendsuggested price lists upon request. For an electronic copy please visit www.pricelist.hausmann.com.Further, our catalog mass mailings no longer include a poly-bag or an envelope.

New Green-Line Products With the introduction of this catalog we have a limited number of Green-Line products but we canproduce practically any of our products Greener — Just Ask. This is an evolving process, and Hausmann commits to improving our products while reducing our environmental footprint.

Charitable ContributionsTo help move our country faster in this direction, effective January 2009 Hausmann will donate a portion of profits to Green Charities including Jr. Energy www.juniorenergy.org .

We have made progress to help reduce our carbon footprint, and we continue to embrace, improveand monitor this critical initiative in all of our work processes.
