DePauw takes its 3-0 overall record and 2-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark into Saturday’s showdown at Millsaps College. The Ma- jors, ranked 13th by d3fooball.com and 14th in the American Football Coaches Association poll, are 4-0 overall and also 2-0 in the SCAC. Kickoff from Harper Davis Field is slated for 1 p.m. CDT. The Tigers are off to a 3-0 start for the second straight year and just the second time in the last 23 seasons. DePauw opened with a 52-17 home win over Anderson before picking up SCAC victories at Centre (27-14) and at home against Sewanee (27-20). Millsaps is coming off a 49-2 win at Rhodes after opening SCAC play two weeks ago with a 41-7 home victory over Austin. The Majors started the season with a 42-6 win over rival Mississippi College and a 34-4 victory at Belhaven. DePauw leads the series, 9-5, after Millsaps took a 35-17 win in Greencastle last year. The two schools met for a four-year series from 1991- 94 before the Tigers began SCAC play in 1998. DePauw won the first eight SCAC meetings before the Majors captured the last two including a 31-7 win in Jackson in 2006. SCOUTING MILLSAPS The two-time defending conference champion Majors are off to their best start since 1996 after opening with four straight wins. Two-time SCAC Offensive Player of the Year Juan Joseph directs the offense which averages 41.5 points and 414.5 yards per game. The senior signal caller has completed just over 60 percent of his passes for 977 yards with 14 touchdowns and just one interception and his 150.91 efficiency rating ranks 37th in Division III. Joseph also leads the team with 123 rushing yards. Joseph’s top receiver is Eric McCarty with 22 catches for 278 yards and five touchdowns, while Burt Pereira has caught 14 passes and Michael Galatas and Raymece Savage follow with 10 each. Schuyler Huff is second on the squad with 115 rushing yards. Defensively, Millsaps is allowing opponents just 7.3 points per game and just three touchdowns on the season. Michael Sims leads with 28 tackles, while Cap White follows with 26. Denarold Anderson and David Dale have each totaled 2.0 sacks with Sam Herman leading with 4.0 tackles for loss. Ryan Preuss paced the Tigers with 10 tackles, while Kyle Sherer finished with nine and Tarren Collins and Stacy Crawford had eight each. Drew DeVilbiss and Michael Fultz each picked up sacks and Alex Fitch blocked a field goal and an extra point. Steve Valdiserri and Marc Hoeppner each had one interception and Valdiserri’s pass breakup in the end zone with 15 seconds left preserved the victory. The Tigers are outgaining opponents by an av-erage of 403-255 yards per game and are outscoring them 35.3-17.0. Dick paces the attack by completing just under 64 percent of his passes for 779 yards, nine touch-downs and just three interceptions. His 164.93 efficiency rating ranks 15th in Division III. Alex Koors leads the team with 12 catches for 299 yards and four touchdowns, while Brad Paus follows with 10 and Brayden Dahlstrom nine. Ellis leads the ground attack with 87.3 yards per game and Derrick Karazsia follows with 31.3. Sherer paces the defense with 24 tackles fol-lowed by Preuss with 22. Michael McNelis is the team leader with 2.5 sacks and Tyler Doane leads with 3.5 tackles for loss. Preuss and Stacy Crawford have each broken up four passes. REVIEWING LAST YEAR’S GAME Millsaps quarterback Juan Joseph threw for 475 yards and five touchdowns and led the Majors to a 35-17 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over DePauw. The Majors improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the SCAC, while the Tigers suffered their first loss in dropping to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference. DePauw took a 3-0 lead early in the second on Brendan Smith’s 33-yard field goal, but Millsaps took the lead for good when Joseph connected with Louis Conley for a 7-yard score with 7:40 left in the half. The Majors extended the lead to 14-3 when Joseph teamed with Burt Pereira for a 30-yard score with 6:12 left in the third and the Majors put the contest away in the opening three minutes of the fourth as Joseph tossed a 22-yard score to Conley and a 62-yarder to Eric McCarty. DePauw came right back as Spud Dick con-nected with Alex Koors for a 3-yard pass with 10:46 left before the Majors capped a 13-play drive on Joseph’s 17-yard pass to Josh Maharrey with 3:46 remaining. Dick scored on a 3-yard run with 45

seconds left to cap the scoring. Joseph completed 32 of 56 passes to 11 dif-ferent receivers as the Majors totaled 528 yards of offense. Conley and Raymece Savage each finished with six catches, while McCarty had five for a team-high 146 yards. DePauw totaled 306 yards of offense including 248 through the air with Dick completing 24 of 45. Bryan Mulligan caught nine for 128 yards. Millsaps’ Casey Younger recorded seven tackles including a team-high two sacks, while Ryan McEl-wain had 10 for DePauw.
