    1846/ Founding of the company by Carl Zeiss (18161888)

    1875 The outstanding scientist and entrepreneur Ernst Abbe(18401905) becomes Zeiss' partner in the business

    1889 Abbe creates the Carl Zeiss Foundation to which all interests in
