    removethefrontpanelfromtheindoorunitcabinet.1)Settheairdirectionlouversup-and-downtotheposi-

    tion(horizontally)byhand.2)Remove 3 screws that retain the f ront panel .

    Pullthelowerleftandrightsidesofthegrilletowardyouandliftitoff.

    tionsystem.Therefore,theindoorunitandtubingbetweentheindoorandoutdoorunitmustbeleaktestedandevacuatedto

    removeanynoncondensablesandmoisturefromthesystem.

    3.8.2Airpurgingwithvacuumpump

    A.PreparationCheck that each tube(both liquidandgassidetubes)

    betweentheindoorandoutdoorunitshavebeenprop-

    erlyconnectedandallwiringforthetestrunhasbeencompleted.Remove theservicevalve caps fromboththegasandtheliquidsideontheoutdoorunit.Note

    thatboththeliquidandthegassideservicevalvesontheoutdoorunitarekeptclosedatthisstage.

    B.Leaktest

    Connectthemanifoldvalve(withpressuregauges)anddrynitrogengascylindertothisserviceportwith

    chargehoses.

    Besuretouseamanifoldvalveforairpurging.Ifitisnotavailable,useastopvalveforthispurpose.The"Hi"knobofthemanifoldvalvemustalwaysbekeptclose.

    CAUTION

    Pressurizethesystemtonomorethan150P.S.I.G.

    withdrynitrogengasandclosethecylindervalvewhenthegaugereadingreached150P.S.I.G.Next,testfor

    leakswithliquidsoap.

    Toavoidnitrogenenteringtherefrigerantsysteminaliquidstate,thetopofthecylindermustbehigherthanitsbottomwhenyoupressurizethesystem.Usually,thecylinderisusedinaverticalstandingposition.

    CAUTION

    Doaleaktestofalljointsofthetubing(bothindoorandoutdoor)andbothgasandliquidsideservicevalves.Bubblesindicatealeak.Besuretowipeoffthesoap

    withacleancloth.Afterthesystemisfoundtobefreeofleaks,relievethe

    nitrogenpressurebylooseningthechargehosecon-

    nectoratthenitrogencylinder.Whenthesystempres-sureisreducedtonormal,disconnectthehosefromthecylinder.

    (1)Removethecapsfromthe2-wayand3-wayvalves.

    (2)Removetheservice-portcapfromthe3-wayvalve.

    (3)Toopenthe2-wayvalveturnthevalvestemcounter-clockwiseapproximately90,waitforabout2~3sec,and

    closeit.(4)Applyasoapwateroraliquidneutraldetergentonthe

    indoorunitconnectionoroutdoorunitconnectionsbyasoftbrushtocheckforleakageoftheconnectingpointsofthepiping.

    (5)Ifbubblescomeout,thepipeshaveleakage.

    C.EvacuationConnectthechargehoseenddescribedinthepreced-

    ingstepstothevacuumpumptoevacuatethetubingandindoorunit.

    Confirmthe"Lo"knobofthemanifoldvalveisopen.Then,runthevacuumpump.Theoperationtimeforevacuationvarieswithtubinglengthandcapacityofthepump.Thefollowingtable

    showsthetimerequiredforevacuation.

    Whenthedesiredvacuumisreached,closethe"Lo"knobofthemanifoldvalveandstopthevacuumpump.

    D.Finishingthejob

    1)Withaservicevalvewrench,turnthevalvestemofliq-

    uidsidevalvecounter-clockwisetofullyopenthevalve.

    2)Turn thevalve stemofgasside valvecounter-clock-

    wisetofullyopenthevalve.3)Loosenthe chargehoseconnectedto thegasside

    serviceportslightlytoreleasethepressure,then

    removethehose.4)Replacetheflarenutanditsbonnetonthegasside

    serviceportand fastentheflarenutsecurelywithan

    adjustablewrench.Thisprocessisveryimportanttopreventleakagefromthesystem.

    5)Replacetheservicevalvecapsatboththegasand

    theliquidsideandfastenthemtight.Thiscompletesairpurgingwithavacuumpump.Theairconditionerisnowreadytotestrun.

    themountingbasesecurelywithanailorwireassum-ingtheinfluenceofwindandearthquake.3)Inthecasewhenthevibrationoftheunitisconveyed

    tothehose,securetheunitwithananti-vibrationrub-ber.

    PumpDownProcedure1.Connectalow-pressuregaugemanifoldhosetothe

    chargeportonthegassideservicevalve.

    2.Openthegassideservicevalvehalfwayandpurgetheairfromthemanifoldhoseusingtherefrigerantgas.

    3.Closetheliquidsideservicevalve(allthewayin).

    4.Turnontheunit'soperatingswitchandstartthecoolingoperation.

    5.Whenthelow-pressuregaugereadingbecomes1to0.5kg/cm2.G(14.2to7.1P.S.I.G.),fullyclosethegassidevalvestemandthenquicklyturnofftheunit.Atthattime,PumpDownhasbeencompletedandallrefrigerantgaswillhavebeencollectedintheoutdoorunit.
