No Smoking in Tiger StadiumBeginning with the 2007 football season, smoking will not be permitted inTiger Stadium. The “Louisiana Smoke Free Air Act” became law in theState of Louisiana on January 1, 2007. The statute La. R.S. 40:1300.252specifically prohibits smoking in any public building, defined as a buildingowned or operated by the state or any other political subdivision of thestate. All of LSU’s athletic facilities are considered public buildings underthis statute. Additionally, a public place also covers sports arenas, educa-tional facilities and any enclosed areas to which the public is invited.

Time Restriction on Nicholson Drive ParkingFor safety reasons, beginning with the 2007 football season, vehicles may not park on the shoulders ofNicholson Drive between North Stadium Drive and Gourrier Lane prior to 7 p.m. on Fridays before foot-ball games. Vehicles parked on Nicholson Drive can cause obstructed views for vehicles traveling onNicholson Drive and for students walking to classes. Please be advised that vehicles that park onNicholson Drive prior to 7 p.m. on Fridays will be towed.

Satellite Police Unit in Touchdown VillageFor the increased security and enjoyment of motor home owners in Touchdown Village, LSU CampusPolice will operate a Satellite Police Unit in this lot beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday until 6 a.m. on Sundaymorning each football weekend. This unit is being located in Touchdown Village to enforce safety andnoise policies that are designed to enhance the motor home tailgating experience.

Revised Policy Regarding Portable Stadium SeatsThere is no size restriction of stadium seats that may be brought into Tiger Stadium, except that anyseat that impedes on the comfort and enjoyment of a fan in an adjacent seat (in front, behind or to theside) is prohibited. Please be advised that any stadium seat measuring 16 inches wide or less will fit intoany seat in Tiger Stadium. In some portions of Tiger Stadium, seats wider than 16 inches may fit. Please be considerate of those sitting around you.

Parking in Gourrier Lane LotsParking in the Fairway Lot, located at the corner of Gourrier Lane and Nicholson Drive, will be reducedthis year due to the construction of LSU’s new baseball stadium. Please refer to the fold-out parkingmap in this Fan Guide for a diagram of the revised Fairway Lot.

Parking in Levee LotsParking lots on River Road – called the Levee Lots -- have been refurbished to make them functional forall weather conditions. In the past, these lots were subject to closure when rain made them unusable.

FOR2007What’s New

Page 3: 2007 - - The Official Web Site of LSU Tigers Athletics

Dear Tiger Fan,

As Tiger Stadium has grown over the course of the last threedecades, so has tailgating on game days. More people than everbefore are coming to LSU for football weekends, turning our cam-pus into a weekend-long festival.

Because tailgating has grown so rapidly, we formed aGameDay Coordination Committee this past year consisting of across-section of LSU campus representatives to develop smart, concise, consistent and enforceable policies for the overall better-ment and long-term good of tailgating at LSU football games.

We looked closely at every existing policy and asked the fol-lowing question of each:

• Is it is necessary?• Does it promote safety?• Does it promote enjoyment for fans?• Does it compromise the integrity of the campus?

We want our LSU football game day tradition to prosper, but itis becoming increasingly more important to manage activities oncampus. That means it is important to enforce effective policies tomanage traffic and parking, portable restrooms, trash pickup, cookers, music and so on.

Developing and enforcing policies is not meant to diminish theenjoyment of the LSU GameDay experience. To the contrary, ourultimate goal is to make tailgating safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Most of our policies are based on the principle of ensuring thatone fans’ enjoyment of tailgating does not impede the enjoymentof another fan. All of our policies are based on keeping everyonesafe and sound on game days.

This Fan Guide includes new and revised policies pertaining tothe GameDay experience. I don’t think you will find many dramaticchanges, but hopefully you will find clearer and more concise poli-cies, as well as explanations for each.

Help keep your campus safe and clean. Let’s all work togetherto keep the great tradition of LSU Tailgating alive and well formany years to come.

Geaux Tigers!

CarpoolingPolicy:Fans are encouraged to carpool as often as possible and toarrive early to campus.

Reason:The less vehicles on campus on game day, the more park-ing opportunities there will be for everyone.

Closed StreetsPolicy: North Stadium Drive, South Stadium Drive and WestStadium Drive (next to Tiger Stadium) will be closed to allvehicular traffic on game days.

Reason:The streets nearest to Tiger Stadium are heavily utilized bypedestrians. Vehicular traffic on those streets wouldpresent a danger to those pedestrians.

Neutral Ground (Median) ParkingPolicy: Parking of vehicles on the neutral ground (median) onNicholson Drive is not permitted.

Reason:Vehicles parked on neutral grounds can obstruct the visionof motorists and presents a danger for pedestrians andmotorists.

Nicholson DrivePolicy: Vehicles may not park on the shoulders of Nicholson Drivebetween North Stadium Drive and Gourrier Lane prior to 7p.m. on Fridays before football games. Vehicles that park onNicholson Drive prior to this time will be towed. (Effectivebeginning with the 2007 football season)

Reason:Parked vehicles on Nicholson Drive can cause obstructedviews for vehicles traveling on Nicholson Drive and for stu-dents walking to classes.

Parking in Designated AreasPolicy:Automobiles and motor homes may park only in designatedareas. No parking is permitted on roots of trees.

Reason:LSU has one of the most picturesque campuses in America, and we ask our fans to help preserve its beauty. Parking onthe roots of LSU’s historic oak trees will shorten the lifespan of this valuable resource.

Police DirectionsPolicy: Motorists should follow the directions given by police offi-cers on campus.

Reason:Policemen along the traffic routes and at parking lots arethere to direct motorists to the best routes for the closestavailable parking.

Saving SpacesPolicy: Saving parking spaces for other motorists is not permittedin any lot.

Reason:Parking on the LSU campus is first-come, first-servedexcept in lots with reserved spaces.

Spaces for Vehicles OnlyPolicy: Reserved parking spaces are for vehicles only. The pur-chase and use of a parking pass for other reasons, such asport-o-lets, trailers, tents, chairs, etc., is not permitted.

Reason:There are a limited number of parking spaces on the LSUcampus for the 92,000 fans that attend games. It is impor-tant to make every space available for use for parking.

Travel LanesPolicy: Tailgating is not permitted in travel lanes on roads or park-ing lots. No tents or other items may be placed in travellanes.

Reason:Vehicles must be able to access parking spots via travellanes. Also, for the safety of tailgaters, travel lanes mustremain clear for vehicles to pass, especially emergencyvehicles.

Reason:Lot W is the closest of lots to Tiger Stadium that can accommo-date buses and offer good access for buses to arrive and departthe LSU campus.

LimousinesPolicy:Due to limited parking spaces, the use of limousines as trans-portation to the football games is discouraged. Limousines thatdo travel to LSU for the football games will be directed to park inLot W on Skip Bertman Drive and must remain in place in thatlot throughout the game or leave the campus. A $100.00 park-ing fee will be required to park in this lot. Limousines may notpark overnight prior to the game. It is recommended that limou-sines approach campus on Nicholson Drive or River Road anddo not attempt to pass through campus. After the game, thosetraveling in limousines must meet their limousine at Lot W. Thereare a limited number of spaces available for limousines, soplease contact the LSU Athletics Ticket Office at (225) 578-2184 in advance to purchase a permit for the game.

Reason:Lot W is the closest of lots to Tiger Stadium that can accommo-date limos AND offer good access for limos to arrive and departthe LSU campus. Limousines take up more space than a normalautomobile, so it is necessary to designate a particular locationfor these vehicles.

Utility TrailersPolicy:Policy: Utility trailers are not permitted to park in reserved lots.Motor home owners will be permitted to pull a trailer into a motorhome lot to drop off items up until seven hours prior to kickoff.Vehicles are permitted 15 minutes to drop off items in motorhome lots. If the owner of a utility vehicle chooses to keephis/her trailer on campus, they will be directed to park it in anon-reserved lot such as a lot on Gourrier Lane.

Reason:Spaces in reserved lots are reserved exclusively for cars ormotor homes. Even if a utility trailer fits into a motor homespace, it can cause tailgate parties to overflow into travel lanes, causing a hazard for other vehicles and the passage of emer-gency vehicles.

Reason: LSU must have time to remove trash and clean all parking lotsprior to the beginning of classes on Monday mornings.

Exhaust ExtensionsPolicy: All motor homes require exhaust extensions that reach the top ofthe motor home. For the safety of everyone, motor homes with-out an extension should not operate a generator. This alsoapplies to generators used by fifth-wheelers.

Reason: Exhaust fumes are dangerous and annoying to other tailgaters.

No Vehicles AllowedPolicy: Trailers, golf carts, ATVs, scooters, mopeds and go carts are prohibited in motor home lots for safety reasons.

BandsPolicy: Live musical bands are not allowed at tailgating sites.

Reason: This policy is intended to protect the enjoyment of other fans.Musical tastes and tolerable noise levels vary greatly from tail-gate party to tailgate party.

CaterersPolicy: Caterers must have proper parking permits to be admitted to pri-vate tailgate areas in reserved lots.

Reason: Parking lot attendants are instructed to only allow vehicles withparking permits into reserved lots. They cannot be expected tomonitor vehicles that intend to drop off items and leave the lots.

CookersPolicy: Cookers on trailers are not allowed in reserved lots, and nocooker at any location on campus may be larger than a 55-gal-lon drum (23” in diameter x 35” long). Cookers may not beplaced in travel lanes or in parking spaces. Cookers may not beplaced inside buildings.

Reason: All parking spaces are reserved for vehicles and may not beoccupied by cookers. The size of cookers are regulated for safe-ty reasons so that a cooker may be moved if necessary in theevent of an accident or emergency. Cookers inside buildings arean obvious safety hazard.

FlammablesPolicy: Charcoal must be disposed of properly. Please do not placecharcoal or other flammables in trash cans, under trees or leaveit in the parking areas.

Reason: Even items that appear to be extinguished may remain flamma-ble and cause fires.

Food DistributionPolicy: Companies may not issue sample products without being prop-erly licensed by the University. Food, drink, and other items mayneither be sold nor given to the general public.

Reason: This is a matter of legal liability for everyone involved. TheUniversity does not allow the sale or distribution of food on theLSU campus without proper credentials and insurance.

GeneratorsPolicy: Portable electrical generators are permitted, but are discour-aged. For temporary electrical needs, LSU recommends the useof battery operated inverters that convert the battery current tohouse current. These recommended devices do not generatehazardous carbon monoxide emissions, do not require gasolinecans and resultant hazards, and do not create noise that ispotential damaging to hearing and a nuisance to fellow tail-gaters. The operation of portable electrical generators that cre-ate excessive noise, emission hazards or other safety concernswill not be permitted.

Reason: Older generators can be loud and intrusive for other tailgaters.Older generators can also pose safety issues and may create apollution hazard.

TailgatingTailgating has become a part of college football all across the country, but at LSU, Tiger

fans have turned it into an art form. Over two-thirds of Tiger fans tailgate for five or morehours before every game, and many begin celebrating the great Tiger football experiencemore than 24 hours before kickoff.

LSU encourages its fans to come to campus early and enjoy the great tradition of tailgat-ing. LSU also encourages its fans to tailgate in a responsible manner, respectful of thecampus and respectful of other Tiger fans and fans from visiting schools.

Help us keep your campus clean by bagging your trash and using recycling containers.LSU’s Facility Services Department distributes trash bags throughout campus on gamedays for your convenience. If you need more trash bags on game day, call (225) 578-3186.

Motorized Vehicles (Go Carts, Etc.)

Policy: Golf carts, mopeds, scooters, ATVs and go carts are not permit-ted on the LSU campus unless authorized by LSU.

Reason: The use of motorized vehicles other than automobiles and motorhomes can be a danger to pedestrians, especially children.

Music (Amplified)

Policy: Music must be confined to your tailgate area and speakers mustbe directed into your tailgate party. All music must be turned offby midnight the night before games and by 2 a.m. after games.Tailgaters are encouraged to contact LSU Police at (225) 578-3231 when music from another tailgate party becomes a nui-sance.

Reason: This policy is intended to protect the enjoyment of other fans.Musical tastes and tolerable noise levels vary greatly from tail-gate party to tailgate party.

Political ActivityPolicy: Political signage that implies endorsement of any political candi-date or any political issue may not be displayed nor may politicalmaterials be distributed without prior approval by LSU.

Reason: The University seeks to balance First Amendment rights with itsobligation to eliminate or reduce activities that significantlydetract from fans’ enjoyment of the event. The University willnot allow itself to be perceived as endorsing a political candi-date or issue.

Port-o-LetsPolicy: Individuals may not arrange to bring portable restrooms ontocampus. LSU provides port-o-lets and restrooms in many build-ings throughout campus for the convenience of fans.

Reason: Unless LSU manages the activity of providing port-o-lets oncampus, these units can be left in parking lots in areas utilizedby students on class days, and may remain unserviced, resultingin unsanitary conditions.

Security and SafetyPolicy: It is the responsibility of each tailgate party to secure tailgateitems prior to entering the stadium. Tailgaters should lock food, beverages and valuables out of sight in vehicles; extinguish allfires or flames; unplug electrical outlets; secure barbecue pits, chairs, and ice chests; and store alcoholic beverages in lockedcontainers.

Reason: Up to 120,000 fans tailgate on the LSU campus on game days.LSU cannot ensure the security of each and every tailgate partyon campus.

Signage and BannersPolicy: Banners and signage recognizing businesses may not be dis-played nor may promotional materials be distributed withoutprior approval by LSU.

Reason: LSU operates a successful corporate sponsor program. In orderto fulfill contractual obligations with its sponsors, LSU cannot

SolicitationPolicy: Solicitations of any kind within LSU facilities or on LSU premisesare prohibited unless specifically approved by LSU. The distri-bution of flyers or leaflets on parked vehicles is expressly pro-hibited.

Reason: This is also a matter of legal liability and institutional control. The University does not allow the sale or distribution of goodsand services on the LSU campus without proper credentials andinsurance.

Utilities Owned by UniversityPolicy: The use of electrical outlets in or on LSU facilities, or other utili-ties such as water sources, is expressly prohibited. This policywill be strictly enforced and violators will be subject to arrest fortheft of utilities.

Reason: Overuse of utilities can cause outages, surges or shortages thatmay affect critical operations on the LSU campus.

TentsTent SizePolicy: Tents should be no larger than 10’ by 10’. Limited space is avail-able near the Alex Box parking lot for larger tents. Please callLSU Sports Properties at (225) 578-7049 to reserve a space.

Reason: Oversized tents can impede the tailgating enjoyment of otherfans. Please be courteous in the placement of tents.

Tents During GamePolicy: Tents should be taken down before you enter the game.

Reason: Unexpected winds can cause tents to scatter when unattended, and tents are subject to theft when left alone.

Tents in Parking LotsPolicy: Fans using a tent or canopy over the tailgate of a vehicle shouldkeep travel lanes open for vehicle traffic and should not take upspace in other parking spaces.

Reason: Vehicles must be able to access parking spots via travel lanes. Also, for the safety of tailgaters, travel lanes must remain clearfor vehicles and pedestrians to pass. This is also important toallow for the passage of emergency vehicles.

REVISED

AnnouncementsPolicy: Public address announcements are restricted to emergency sit-uations only and must be requested through LSU Police at (225)578-3231 or during games at (225) 578-HELP.

Reason: Many announcements are requested, but only emergency situa-tions can be addressed through PA announcements in TigerStadium. To properly address these situations, LSU Police isresponsible for determining the level of importance of anyrequested announcement.

Artificial Noise-MakersPolicy: Southeastern Conference rules do not permit artificial noise-makers to be brought into or used in the stadium. Anyone foundviolating this policy is subject to ejection.

Reason: The SEC implemented this rule in order to prevent the distrac-tion of the participants and officials in the game.

Backpacks and BagsPolicy: Backpacks are not allowed in Tiger Stadium. Bags larger than 81/2” x 11” are not allowed in Tiger Stadium.

Reason: LSU is following the advice of security officials who have desig-nated backpacks and large bags as a security risk. Also, thesearching of backpacks would contribute to longer lines forsecurity checks at gates. Thank you for your cooperation withthis very important policy.

Recommendation:LSU recommends the use of clear bags smaller than 8 1/2” by11” (per person) for carrying items into Tiger Stadium.

Banners and PolesPolicy: Banners may not be hung and poles may not be brought intoTiger Stadium except as approved by LSU.

Reason: Banners or poles in Tiger Stadium can obstruct the view of otherfans. Also, LSU must ensure that it abides by its contractualagreements with corporate sponsors regarding signage in TigerStadium.

Beverage Policy (Alcohol)

Policy: The possession or consumption of alcohol in the general seatingareas of Tiger Stadium is expressly prohibited by University poli-cy. Stadium personnel and law enforcement officials willenforce this policy.

Reason: In an effort to encourage an enjoyable experience for all fans inTiger Stadium, persons who are intoxicated or who are in pos-session of alcohol will be removed from the stadium.

CamerasPolicy: Cameras are permitted in Tiger Stadium for both fans and work-ing news media. All photos taken in Tiger Stadium must be foreditorial or personal use only and cannot be used for commer-cial purposes.

Reason: The sale of images with current student-athletes is againstNCAA rules and can risk the eligibility of LSU student-athletes.Additionally, any commercial use of photos of Tiger Stadium, campus landmarks or identifiable campus elements is prohibitedwithout the prior written approval of the University.

Re-Entry to StadiumPolicy: Anyone leaving the stadium must have a full ticket to return tothe stadium. Once a ticket has been scanned or the stubremoved, it may not be used again for re-entry, unless otherwisedirected by LSU officials in emergency situations.

Reason: SEC rules prohibit “pass out checks” from being issued.

SmokingPolicy: Smoking is not permitted in all areas of Tiger Stadium.

Reason: The “Louisiana Smoke Free Air Act” became law in the State ofLouisiana on January 1, 2007. The statute La.
