• Focus on Georgia students completing a CTAE concentration.
• Use data to examine the culture of the school including CTAE for school improvement.
• Use student data to determine actions adults in the school system must take to create high performance cultures.
• Examine the role of CTAE as it relates to student achievement and graduation rates.
CTAE/HSTW WorkshopResults and Reminders
• Participation: 70 school teams of approx. 8 members each at 6 January workshops

developed to address the identified areas in support of school improvement.

JROTC Under CTAE Umbrella
• Previously: just for C/T seal purposes and regular academic FTE funding
• Now: JROTC curriculum and FTE will be under CTAE
• FTE: lab weight funding instead of academic funding
• No Perkins funds may be expended on JROTC programs or instructors.
JROTC: GACTE – Liability Insurance
• Please encourage JROTC instructors to join GACTE under the New and Related Division.
• Professional development will be provided for JROTC instructors at GACTE in July.
• JROTC instructors are now covered by the state liability insurance. (see www.doas.georgia.org)

Question: What is a career pathway?
Answer: A career pathway, also called Peach State Pathways, is the secondary curriculum established to help students align their academic and career, technical and agricultural studies to better prepare them for graduation, post-secondary education, and career opportunities.
Question: How does a career pathway relate to the definition of a “program of study” as defined by the new Perkins IV Legislation?Answer:
Programs of study are very similar to career pathways. In Georgia, career pathways will become a program of study. A program of study, as defined by the new Perkins IV Legislation, incorporates secondary education and post-secondary education elements; includes coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and technical content in a coordinated, non-duplicative progression of courses that align secondary education with post-secondary education to adequately prepare students to succeed in post-secondary education. Below see an outlined schedule for career pathway implementation:
– Phase I: Development 05-06; Training 06-07; Implementation 07-08.– Phase II: Development 06-07; Training 07-08; Implementation 08-09.– Phase III: Development 07-08; Training 08-09; Implementation 09-10.

Once the Georgia State Plan has been developed, it will create benchmarks upon which career pathways will be developed for students.
Middle School CTAE Curriculum Revision
• A curriculum team was formed and has worked to develop a preliminary document containing standards for Career Development.
• Work will resume upon filling a position for a Middle School Curriculum Coordinator.

– Formative assessment activities will be developed to assist CTAE instructors with measuring student achievement
– New CTAE Resource Network will make formative assessment activities available to instructors

Merging Title I and Title II:How does it work?
• Perkins IV allows “pooled” funds; thus, secondary and postsecondary educational partners receive allocation as grants (part of Local Plans).
• Use of “reserve” funds (approx. 7.5%) with commitment to fund same amount as past Tech Prep allocation (approx. 3 mi.) minus carry over.
• Creation of formula using “reserve” criteria (Sec. 112)– Rural areas;– Areas with high percentages of CTE students;– Areas with high numbers of CTE students
• All contribute to partnership based on existing service area or forfeit funds.• Funds “pass through” to designated fiscal agent and must be identified and
tracked “separately through either GOARS or People Soft state accounting systems.
• Additional funding sources can be identified “outside total grant amount.”

Two New/Revised Entrepreneurship (ENT) Courses, One in Business & Information Technology and One in Marketing Education, Will Be Available In Fall 2007.
The Business ENT Course Is Found In The Small Business Development Pathway.
The Marketing ENT Course Is Found In The Marketing & Management Pathway.
Why Two Entrepreneurship Courses In Two Programs and Two Pathways?
In the Phase I Curriculum Re-Engineering Process…
Entrepreneurship Was Approved For Both Program Areas And Headed By Different Committees With Different Objectives and Viewpoints.
The Two Resulting Entrepreneurship Courses Are Quite Different:
• Business Entrepreneurship: (1) Included In Small Business Development Career Pathway.
The Intention Is That “Business Essentials” And The “Legal Environment of Business” Will Be Taken Before “Entrepreneurial Ventures.”
(2) “Entrepreneur Ventures” has 43 standards.
• Marketing Entrepreneurship: (1) Included in Marketing & Management Pathway. The
“Entrepreneurship: Building a Business” Course May Be Taken After The Recommended Foundational Course, Marketing Principles.
