Congratulations to all the winners, obedience qualifiers, and participants at North Central NewfoundlandClub's Regional Specialty held in Franklin, WI. The two day event had a very large entry. Showing yourNewfoundland should be enjoyable whether the result at the end of the day is what you expected or not.If you handled your own dog in the show ring, kudos to you. Being an owner in the ring or out of itwatching your Newf can be nerve wrecking as well as exhilarating. The final reward of being part of theRegional makes the time and effort well worth it, win or lose.

Thank you to all the volunteers who worked on the Regional Specialty! Many club members don't realizethe effort and hours needed to put on a specialty show, especially since we expanded to a two dayevent this year. It starts with Show Chair, Melissa Torres, assembling the show team and extends downto club members who help with the clean up when the show is completed. While it is great to have alarge number of exhibitors, without the volunteers we would not be able to have such a flourishing showevery year. Please be sure to thank everyone who volunteered to make this show a success when yousee them. If you have comments on the Regional overall, please take the time to write Melissa or yourboard members. We would like to hear your opinions.

NCNC's next big event is Newfiepalooza, May 19th. The proceeds from this event benefitsNewfoundland Rescue. While Newfiepalooza is an NCNC event, it is really the Rhonda and Karenshow. Rhonda Brunning and Karen Clancy do a fabulous job organizing this affair. To view some of thewonderful items for silent auction or raffle please check our website. There will also be a professionalphotographer and CGC and TDI testing. Last year this event generated over $3,000 for North CentralNewfoundland Rescue. With your participation this year, we hope the donation will be even larger.Please plan to attend this happening. The sad truth is that our Newfs grow from adorable puppies tooversized dogs seemingly overnight and not everyone who has a Newf is able to take care of themespecially as they age or have special needs. Sometimes it is a matter of not understanding the breedor having the time to train them, tragically other times personal events happen that break up a Newfyhome. Rescue is an important club function and any way that you can contribute is appreciated.

The Annual Picnic is June 24th. This is one of our primary club events with a membership meetingwhere we vote on our club officers and directors. You have to be present at this meeting to vote for thecandidates. As well, we will honor our titlists from 2006. It is a fun day for the entire family. This is agood time to learn more about the people who serve you on the Board. What have we done as a Boardto provide a service to you that you appreciate or enjoy? How could we serve you and yourNewfoundalnd(s) better? What benefits do you receive by being a club member? Are the activities ofinterest to you? Many of us have been on the board for more than a couple of terms, do you feel wehave served your interests? Have we been accessible to you and listened to your requests? The by-laws review is still underway and term limits for the Board is certainly an open item. Maybe you shouldthink about seeking a board position next year. Change is good for us all.

Grease and flour an 8x5x3 inch loaf pan. Cream butter until smooth. Add corn oil, baby food, and eggs. Mix until smooth. Mix dry ingredients into beef mixture until batter is smooth. Crumble beef jerky and fold into batter. Pour batter into loaf pan. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes at 325 F. Cool on wire rack 15 minutes. Ice with yogurt Garnish with jerky Store in refrigerator

NCNC is a one of the wealthier clubs because we have over$25,000 in available funds. Many clubs only have total funds

which are similar to our checking account balance. NCNC also has a large membership ofNewfoundland owners that love and live with your dogs as family members and pets. Of course, weneed to maintain prudent reserves but this money belongs to the club and should be used for allmembers. Do you feel you receive benefit from the water test, draft test, or regional specialty, orperhaps you would like more activities that are focused on your interests? The board as a votingbody sets policy. I try to guide us in the direction the club should go as you, the members, haveindicated. As club president I only oversee what the board wishes to do, I chair the meetings andmy vote only counts as one. As I always say, this is your club. If you wish for change, get involvedand make yourself heard.

March certainly came in like a lion this year but that didn'tstop the parade of Newfs at the Milwaukee CountySports Complex. This was our first year with a back-to-back 2 day Regional as well as adding Rally Obedience.Our total entry this year was 171 on Friday & 159 onSaturday. We had 2 fully packed rings - Ring 1 startedthe day with Sweepstakes - Friday's Judge JeanneNonhof & Saturday's Judge Wendy Hayman both had

some tough choices to make - lots of gorgeous youngsters out there & a few grand "oldies" as well! Thiswas followed by breed judging - we had wonderful entries both on Friday for Jean Fournier & Saturday forJane Haefner. Ring 2 was shared with the Bernese Mountain Dogs first for Obedience & then for Rally. On Friday, we had 18 Obedience & 16 Rally Newfies strutting their stuff for judge Ronnie Bizer. Saturday

brought 16 Obedience & 15 Rally Newfies back out for judge Elmer J. Willems. I am especially proud tosay there were quite a few qualifiers from the Novice A classes, both in Obedience & in Rally - way to getout & work with those Newfs! For those not familiar with the competition Obedience world, Novice A is theclass reserved for "first-timers" - individuals who have never earned an Obedience title before. To show adog & qualify in these events is quite an accomplishment.

Special thanks go out to all those exhibitors who were cooperative in sharing dryers, etc on Friday morningwhen both the building power & the generator experienced issues. You showed the same generous spiritas your wonderful dogs!

I am very grateful for the support of the many volunteers who turned out to help our club host another successful Specialty. I saw some new faces this year & I hope you all had a wonderful time & got to meet &get to know some of your fellow club members. Back by popular demand, join us for a First Timers Water Workshop. This workshop is intended for all thosenew to or with little previous water experience.

No previous training is required. This session will focus on the basics of getting you and your dog in the waterand will teach the basic skills for water training: basic control, retrieving, carrying and pulling. At the end ofthe day you will learn the fun of water work and have the skills necessary to train your dog for the juniorwater exercises.

Items to brings: Water shoes, life jacket (for you), 6' nylon or cotton leash, lawn chairs, cooler with water andlunch. Dog treats. Water equipment, if you have it, bumper, boat cushion, life vest, 6' line. Equipment will beavailable to borrow. Shade is limited, a tent will be provided, car shades/pop-up tents are recommended.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES

January 28, 2007

The General Membership Meeting was held at the University of IL. Extension building in Grayslake,IL.The meeting was called to order at 10:40AM, with Rick Hartke, President NCNC presiding.There were 30 voting members present, thus achieving a quorum.

The minutes from June 25, 2006 were approved as written.

President's Report: Kathy McIver had sent NCNC a Thank you card - She thanked the mem-bers of NCNC for the hospitality when the NCA Board met in Chicago - November 2006.

Secretary's Report: Carol Winnert had sent NCNC a Thank you card - NCNC made a donationto Noah's Ark Animal Care in memory of Frank Winnert - Frank passed away December 25, 2006.

Treasurer's Report: The Treasurer's report dated 12/03/06 - 01/28/07 was distributed for themembership to review. Current Checking Balance of $2,674.32 and a balance from all accounts of$28,517.63. Also distributed was the financial fiscal year-to-date report dated 06/25/06 - 01/28/07.There were no comments or questions from the membership.

Committee Reports:

Grooming Seminar - Claire Hernandez reported the seminar filled quickly and was a successwith participants and financially ($601.64 profit for the club).

Rescue: No report at this time.

Bylaws: Rick reported the committee is still working on bylaws. Any members with suggestionsshould contact Rick Hartke or Joan Gunn. The committee plans on bylaw updating to be ready forMay or June.

Regional Specialty: Melissa stated to the club members they are looking for needed stewards.Joan Gunn - Assistant Chair, Denita Jackman Obedience Chair. Dona Baker Banquet chair - raffleand auction. Items need for auction and raffle please see Dona. Cissy Sullivan reported she had sponsors for all 96 trophies for the Regional. Good job Cissy.Sharon Nummers is donating for the Regional (both days) a portrait for Best Veteran inSweepstakes.Thank you Sharon.Roger Danielsen will be in charge of Judges Hospitality. Saturday is Rick Torres. Many jobs still needed to fill, such as sell catalogs, please see Melissaand Denita.Grooming space will be shared with the other breeds. The Newfoundland area will be taped off.Also sharing a generator with the other breeds. Set up allowed after 6PM Thursday to be verified. Mats or towels under crates please.Boy Scout troop to help with cleanup. NCNC will share rally/obedience judges with the Berner Club. Judges will be judging Berners firston Friday and Newfs first on Saturday.Melissa and Joan attending meeting with the other clubs entered before Regional.

New Business:

Barbara Hearn asked if the club could make available to members the Board MeetingsDate/place/time so they could be attended. Rick stated they will be published in the NewfNewsletter. Barbara also stated that she enjoys the Newfiepalooza event and if rescue stories andthe NCNC rescue policy could possibly be available at the event. Ted Meeker suggested doing simi-lar to what River King did at their regional. (parade, pictures, stories,etc.) Karen Clancey welcomedanyone that would like to work on such for Newfiepalooza.Rick stated Newfipalooza is a well enjoyed event by the club also general membership meeting wasconsidered to be held at Newfiepalooza.

Newf Novelties: Tara Martin stated she would like a helper or someone to take over the NewfNovelties. Club members interested see Tara - also post message in newsletter.

Melissa Torres reported that on the 2007 National Web site it is stated that regional clubs shouldbring and item/decoration for the Totem Pole. Melissa will check into - so that NCNC is represented.
