Leica Geosystems is excited to host your visit to eica Geosystems is excited to host your visit to

the 2007 HDS Worldwide User Conference. I

believe that you are set for an outstanding learning

and networking experience, as HDS users and Leica

Geosystems staff share their most current experi-

ences with state-of-the-art Leica Geosystems HDS

tools.

The goal of the 2007 Conference is to increase your

business success, as your success is key to ours.

We provide the forum, the expert Leica staff, and the

event planning. You provide the energy to learn, share,

and network. The time you are investing this week is

signifi cant, so I encourage you to take full advantage

of all of the opportunities available to you.

Today, I have the great pleasure to head Leica

Geosystems’ Imaging & Scanning Business Area,

which consists of the Terrestrial Scanning business

and the Airborne Sensors business. Both are exciting,

growing businesses. Both are poised – as you are by

having invested in HDS - to take advantage of the

growing demand for high-defi nition survey data and

imagery being fueled by an expanding internet, by

continuing advances in computing technology, and

by your own enterprising initiative.

I am excited to welcome you and meet you at the

5th HDS Worldwide User Conference.

So please, enjoy the conference and beautiful

San Ramon, California.

Very Best Regards,

Juergen Dold

Welcome!

About the ConferenceDemand for Leica High-Defi nition Survey™ scanners and software continues to

grow at a very strong pace. This demand comes from new HDS customers and an

increasing portion of it comes from existing HDS customers. As HDS customers

succeed, many invest further in the technology. That’s what this conference is

about – fueling your success and growth. The conference does this by providing

valuable information – about applications, workfl ows and business factors - in a

venue that also optimizes networking opportunities.

Presentation SessionsMore than two and a half days of presentation sessions by HDS users and

Leica Geosystems experts from around the globe form the backbone of the

conference. Each 20-25 minute presentation is followed by a moderated,

and often enlightening, 5-minute Q&A session.

Many presentations are of general interest, while others focus on specifi c

applications, products, or markets. For 2007, two presentations will be in the

format of panel discussions, where leaders from a variety of organizations

share their views together in an open forum.

For the fi rst time, refl ecting a strong upsurge in plant activity partly driven by the

2006 introductions of the Leica HDS6000 scanner and Leica TruView software,

we have added a separate “Plant” track for 2007. This will be offered on Tuesday

afternoon and will run in parallel with a “Civil/Survey/Architectural” track also

Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday’s presentations include many by university speakers and other

leading experts that refl ect insights into some of the most leading edge HDS

implementations and research being done today.

A Focus on Networking Many HDS users benefi t signifi cantly by actively networking with each other.

This may be through project teaming, resource sharing, knowledge sharing,

outsourcing, joint marketing, etc. Leica Geosystems not only encourages this,

but we actually organize the User Conference to maximize your networking

opportunities.

Opportunities include two receptions (Sunday and Wednesday); 30-minute breaks

between presentation sets; daily, all-attendee luncheons, with optional “special

interest group” seating; a fun dinner party on Monday evening; a convenient

“Networking Room” where attendees can meet in a casual business environment;

and informal, nightly socializing in the Marriott lounge.

Conference ModeratorsLeica Geosystems and attendees are again fortunate to have Geoff Jacobs as

the primary conference moderator. Geoff has held senior marketing roles in the

company since 1998. He has also been a regular contributing editor on the topic

of laser scanning for Professional Surveyor magazine since 2004, having Professional Surveyor magazine since 2004, having Professional Surveyor

authored more than 30 feature articles covering a wide range of business and

technical aspects. Geoff is widely considered one of the industry’s leading experts.

For Tuesday afternoon’s “Plant” track, attendees will enjoy the moderator services

of Julian Norton. With the company since 2000 and based in the UK, Julian has

held a variety of regional HDS technical marketing and sales engineering roles.

Julian is also a chartered surveyor with extensive offshore oil & gas industry

experience in as-built technologies and facility documentation.

“Ask the Leica HDS Experts” BoothDiscuss topics specifi c to your organization in a direct, one-on-one environment

with some of Leica’s HDS experts at the “Leica HDS Experts” booth, located in

the hallway outside the main presentation room. Staffed throughout most of the

conference, the booth also features regular demonstrations of the latest HDS

scanners and software.

Exhibitors & SponsorsAt press time for this program, two organizations have committed to also

exhibit in the hallway outside the main presentation ballroom. These are the

Geomatics Division of Leica Geosystems, which will showcase its latest TPS and

satellite surveying systems, and CyArk. Conference sponsor CyArk is a non-profi t

organization that works with various HDS users to nurture and populate a rapidly

growing, online heritage documentation site, www.cyark.org.

VIP’s and Industry PressAlso in attendance will be numerous laser scanning industry VIP’s whom you

will have an opportunity to meet. These include principals, managing directors,

technical experts, and executives from leading organizations. Many have been in

laser scanning since its earliest days and many represent some of today’s most

successful HDS users. They also include representatives from leading industry

magazines and press. Among the many VIP’s in attendance will be Ben Kacyra,

who in 1993 founded Cyra Technologies (which Leica Geosystems acquired in

2001 as the HDS business area).

Keynote Leica Geosystems HDS Worldwide User Conferences have quickly become an

annual gathering point for many of the industry’s opinion leaders and drivers.

The 2007 conference, for example, will include a keynote luncheon address by

Prof. Carlo Bianchini of “La Sapienza” of the Universita di Roma, one of the world’s

oldest universities and foremost leaders in heritage documentation technologies

and methodologies. Prof. Bianchini will describe the revolutionary role of HDS in

this fascinating and broadly popular fi eld, as applied to some of the world’s most

famous heritage structures.

Opportunities for Product InputHDS customers remain the most valuable source of ideas for improving Leica’s

HDS hardware, software and service offerings. The 2007 conference will again

feature its popular, Leica-moderated “Product Input” session at the end of

Tuesday, Oct. 23rd. This special HDS customer-only, closed-door session provides

a formal opportunity for Leica HDS users to make specifi c recommendations in an

open forum. Key Leica Geosystems HDS engineering, manufacturing, and service

& support staff also attend this important session to hear user input fi rst-hand.

Attendees are also encouraged to share ideas throughout the conference with

Leica staff for consideration and follow-up.

Two ReceptionsA casual, welcome reception with hors d’oeuvres will be held Sunday evening,

Oct, 21st at the host Marriott Hotel. This is a great way to break-the-ice and

begin your networking and learning experience. A closing reception will be held

immediately following the end of formal presentations on Wednesday afternoon,

Oct. 24th. Receptions are open to all attendees.

Fun, Memorable Evening, Monday, Oct. 22nd

Leica Geosystems highly appreciates its HDS customers, so we plan to treat you to

a special, fun dinner/party event. To add to the fun and surprise, the specifi c event

and venue is being kept secret prior to the conference. The last two years’ dinner

boat cruises on San Francisco Bay received great feedback … this year, we’ve got

something new and very memorable planned for you!

At the end of the 2006 HDS User Conference, Project Leader Doug Pritchard excited attendees with early insights into an ambitious project to use ScanStation, Cyclone and other tools to create an accurate, photorealistic city model including >1,000 buildings in Glasgow’s River Clyde Corridor and City Centre areas. One year later, Doug Pritchard will describe their results, project metrics, optimized workfl ows and lessons learned. He will also discuss how this online, internet model is being used by stakeholders, what the benefi ts have been, and what the future holds.
