W hat if… Highline Schools Foundation for Excellence could generate the next million dollars in half the time it took for the first? Thanks to the Microsoft Math Partnership, we have distributed more than $1,000,000 to the Highline School District in the first seven years of our existence. As the only non-profit Foundation serving the entire district, we have provided over $120,000 in Excel grants for classroom

enrichment projects at all the schools; nearly $40,000 in multicultural books for all school libraries; nearly $140,000 in college scholarships for students; nearly $80,000 for classroom supplies through the Adopt-a-Classroom project; and many more thousands of dollars for musical instruments, professional teacher scholarships, outstanding district service awards, and scholarships for summer programs. Our community and lifestyle is enhanced when our schools are strong and vibrant. The sad reality is that state and federal funding can not provide enhanced services. All too often teachers and staff find it necessary to pay for supplies out of their own pockets. The Foundation seeks to enhance the educational experience and to inspire students and teachers alike to strive for excellences. In this way we help build tomorrow’s leaders and create a bright future for our community.This year alone, 6,866 students and 172 teachers have benefited from the Excel/MAD grant program through your generous contributions. Your support has enabled us to accomplish great things in a relatively short time and for that we thank you. Your donations have made a difference in our schools and communities. Your generosity has gone directly to students and teachers to enrich the educational experience in all our schools. Now I ask you again, “What if… we could generate the next million dollars in half the time it took for the first?”

This past year was an exciting one for the Foundation as we reached a major milestone. To date, including the Microsoft Math Partnership, we have distributed over one million dollars to the Highline Public Schools! Other highlights from this year:

• Created a $150,000 endowment fund with a gift from the McMicken Heights Community Club

• Partnered with Microsoft and Puget Sound Educational Service District on the Microsoft Math Partnership – a multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative

• Completed the World of Books campaign, bringing over $40,000 of multicultural books to the shelves of all Highline Public School libraries with generous support from King County, local Rotary clubs and Washington Mutual

• Provided over 60 Excel and MAD grants ranging from $100 - $1000 each for classroom enrichment

• Adopted 193 classrooms by giving gifts of $100 to each• Awarded $24,000 in Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

scholarships to Highline students going on to attend technical schools, community colleges and universities

• Granted $5,000 in scholarships for the Summer Arts Academy
