2007-2008 Strategic Project Grants Competition Results

NSERC is pleased to announce the 2007-08 competition results for the Strategic Project Grants and the New Media Initiative.

NSERC awarded $21.1 million to 149 applications in the Strategic Project Grants and New Media Initiative competition. The competition success rate was 48 per cent (a total of 309 applications were received), the second consecutive year with a significant increase. A decrease in the number of applications received and new funding earmarked for three of the target areas (Advanced Communications and Management of Information, HealthyEnvironment and Ecosystems, and Sustainable Energy System) contributed greatly to the increased success of applicants. These three target areas will continue to enjoy increased funding for future competitions.

Researchers responded well to the research topics identified in each target area. Ten projects (representing seven per cent of the awarded funds) were awarded as exceptional opportunities, meaning that the applicants made a compelling case for research within a general target area but outside the research topics.
