ACTIVITIES
The activities that we report here complete the ones in the last report. We have done these
activities as a group but we still have many goals to fulfill for which ones we are going to work hard to
reach every one of them.
1. 3er ENCUENTRO REGIONAL DE OPTICA “ERO” (3rth, Optic Regional Encounter) In this congress participated more than 15 speakers of the region. Among the institutions that
participated in this congress are INAOE, CEFATA-UNAM, UANL, CIO, UGCUL and UG. These
institutions participated in favour to the technology development and growth in optics. The congress took
place at Salamanca’s Campus facilities.

2. “ACADEMIA DE NIÑOS EN LA CIENCIA” (Children in Science Academy) The state government among some public institutions supported by students of the faculty and
the student chapter SPIE, have made possible the “Academia de Niños en la Ciencia” (Children in Science
Academy). This academy gets together students groups of elementary school to teach them the work of
teachers working in the investigating area. The student chapter SPIE is the responsible to show the
children the optic laboratory of the faculty and make some optic experiments such as kaleidoscopes, 3D
lens, among others; the children have the advantage to make these experiments to understand better and
in this way they can learn when they’re having fun.

laboratory.

3. OPTOELECTRONIC SEMINARY In order to have a personal development of each member of the chapter and the people interested
in the optic area we have carried out a seminary that consist on the presentation of the advances or results
of a project made by a student or teacher. As well as the investigations made along the careers of the
optoelectronic academic department of the faculty. We’ve had the participation of three master students
and a bachelor student according to the next calendar.

4. LECTURES The optoelectronic academic group of FIMEE and the student chapter SPIE organized a lecture
called “Nanotecnología. Aplicaciones y Limitaciones” (Nanotechnology. Applications and Limitations),
gave by Dr. Daniel Hernández Cruz from the of the advanced materials division of the “Instituto Potosino
de Investigación”. The lecture took place at the faculty facilities on June 13 of this year.

5. WEB SITE We’ve been working on the creation and actualization of a web site of the student chapter in order
to report activities, events, news and all the information about the work and research done by the chapter.

6. DIFUSION
In order to get more students interested in our chapter we try to let them know about what we do.
There are some activities and events made by the faculty in which we participate to inform the students
our work. In the next lines we describe some of these activities.
Engineering Week Stand Due to the engineering week some information stands were placed in the faculty. One of them
was assigned to our group where we let the student community know our work as a student chapter of
SPIE. We made pamphlets where we show pictures and information of our activities. These pamphlets
were given to the students. We also showed some posters and SPIE Professional volumes so they can
know what benefits they could get if they joy our group. We also gave information about membership,
congresses, and events organized bye SPIE.

Conexiones Magazine
In July 2008 the magazine “Conexiones” of the “Correo de Guanajuato” news paper gave a space
dedicated to students groups of FIMEE. In this space they talked about the student chapter SPIE. One can
consult this article on the next web site: http://www.correo-gto.com.mx/notas.asp?id=73047

Students from different universities participated in the seminar optoelectronics summer in our university
on July 23 of this year according to the next order.
