Prior to the home opener on September 24th the Bills, led by event chairperson, Mary Wilson, hosted the 9th Annual Fan Food Drive to benefit the Food Bank of WNY. Fans were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and monetary donations to the game. Once again, the Fan Food Drive proved to be a success by bringing in $17,653 in monetary donations and over 3,726 pounds of non-perishable food items. All of which go a long way in aiding the less fortunate of our community.

As an incentive to donate to the Food Bank, Mary & Ralph Wilson matched all monetary donations collected at the gates and TOPS Markets matched the first 1,000 pounds of food collected. Volunteers from the Bills Women’s Association, Student Leaders and the Buffalo Jills teamed up with Mary Wilson to collect donations outside all Stadium gates prior to the game. Together they encour-aged fans to give anything they could to help the Food Bank better serve its network of over 400 member agencies.

Over the past nine years the Fan Food Drive has collected close to 65,000 pounds of food and raised over $126,000 for the Food Bank of WNY.

On Sunday, November 5, 2006, the Buffalo Bills, Salvation Army and M&T Bank held the annual “Gift of Warmth” collection kickoff at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Fans attending the game were encouraged to bring new warm clothing items such as hats, scarves, and gloves to donate to the less fortunate in Western New York. The Salvation Army Red Kettles were also at each gate to accept monetary donations. The “Gift of Warmth” collection ran through December 29, 2006. Collection boxes were located in every M&T Bank branch throughout the Buffalo-area for those who would like to contribute but were not able to make it to the

game. M&T Bank has been a proud sponsor of the Gift of Warmth for more than 20 years. Buffalo Bills Offensive Line, Duke Preston made an appearance at M&T Bank this year where he collected donations and signed autographs. Since 1884, The Salvation Army has been a vital link within Western New York’s human service network. The NFL/United Way “Hometown Huddle” is a day of service that provides NFL players and coaches from each team the opportunity to take part in a variety of community-service activities. On one designated day each year, “Hometown Huddle” events are co-hosted in every NFL city by the respective NFL franchises and local United Ways. Started in 1999, Hometown Huddle continues to help make a difference in communities across the country. The 2006 Buffalo Bills Hometown Huddle was an opportunity for children from seven United Way of Buffalo & Erie County Community Care funded agencies to attend an inspirational assembly and interactive football event at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The event consisted of an inspirational/motivational presentation focused on academic success, a

trivia show by Quizmaster Dennis George, followed by a mini football camp where kids had the opportunity to enjoy one-on-one interaction with some of the 2006 Buffalo Bills players. Children in attendance were from local agencies including Aspire of Western New York, Big Brother Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, Northwest Buffalo Community, Salvation Army Youth Services, and Valley Community Center. Verizon Wireless and the Buffalo Bills collected no-longer-used wireless phones to benefit victims of domestic violence on Sunday, October 1, 2006 during the Bills vs. the Minnesota Vikings game. Through Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine® program, these phones will be refurbished and recycled or sold. Proceeds are then used to purchase wireless phones for use by domestic violence victims in emergency or threatening situations. HopeLine also makes financial grants to domestic violence organizations. This is the sixth year the Bills and Verizon Wireless have teamed up to fight domestic violence in our communities. On September 27, 2006 Bills l i n e b a c k e r a n d H o p e L i n e spokesperson London Fletcher-Baker visited the Walden Galleria Verizon Wireless kiosk to encourage fans to donate their no longer used wireless phones. The first 1,000 fans to donate a phone on Game Day received a poster featuring Fletcher.

Prior to kickoff, the fifth annual HopeLine Awards Ceremony took place. The award acknowledged two individuals who have helped to combat domestic violence or assisted victims of this tragedy within their own community. This year’s winners were Pat Long of Chances and Changes Domestic Violence Program in Geneseo and Cary Travis of the Monroe County Family Domestic Violence Intervention Court. Both Cary and Pat were presented with a plaque honoring their efforts and $2,500.00 was donated on their behalf to the domestic violence shelter or program of their choice. This year alone over 1,100 phones were collected in an effort to combat domestic violence.

The Buffalo Bills were proud to team up with BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and the American Heart Association to create the What Moves U program that encouraged physical activity among youngsters. Responding to the continuing decline of physical education programs in many of America's schools and the lack of physical activity for today's youth, this national youth movement and awareness campaign was designed to promote physical fitness and healthy living to an increasingly inactive generation of children. This initiative incorporated several key elements such as an in-school activity kit created for teachers, by teachers, which includes curriculum-based activity sheets, program - specific learning materials and school promotional materials; an interactive fitness-focused website for children, as well as a four-week Buffalo Bills What Moves U Fitness Contest. The Buffalo Bills What Moves U Fitness program was kicked off with over 1,600 Buffalo Public School students on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006 at Kleinhan’s Music Hall. The event was held not only to kick-off the in-school program but also to announce the partnership between the three local

parties – the Buffalo Bills, the American Heart Association and BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York. Representatives from the Buffalo Bills, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, American Heart Association, and Buffalo Public Schools all showed their support at the event by speaking to the students about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

The eight Buffalo Public Schools who participated in the local contest component of the Buffalo Bills What Moves U Fitness Program were invited to Kleinhan’s for the hour long assembly, which included the South Park High School Band, a health and fitness themed trivia show by Dennis George “The Quizmaster”, an appearance by Billy Buffalo and a chance for students to hear from some of the Buffalo Bills players, including Lee Evans, Keith Ellison, Rian Lindell, Josh Stamer, and George Wilson. Select students were given the chance to team up with the players and compete to answer health and fitness trivia questions.

After the kick-off event, the eight participating schools received their four-week contest materials where students tracked the foods they ate along with their exercise routines. Points were awarded for all healthy choices and students received incentives for reaching their weekly goals including Buffalo Bills player trading cards. The Buffalo Bills Community Relations Staff also hosted Gatorade Junior Training Camps in five of the participating schools to help promote the What Moves U Fitness Program and to encourage the students to stay involved and engaged in the contest. At the end of the month-long contest, 250 students and teachers who exceeded their goals were invited to the Buffalo Bills Fieldhouse for a What Moves U Fitness Celebration hosted by the Buffalo Bills and BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York. The Buffalo Bills and BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York will be implementing the second phase of the What Moves U Fitness Program in over 100 area schools where students and teachers will have the opportunity to participate in this exciting fitness program through What Moves U in-school activity kit created for teachers, by teachers, which includes curriculum-based activity sheets, program-specific learning materials and school promotional materials; and an interactive fitness-focused website for students participating in the program.

In 1998, the NFL and NFL Players Association formed the NFL Youth Football Fund (YFF) - a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation which supports the game at the youth level and promotes positive youth development. Since then, hundreds of

thousands of youngsters have been given the opportunity to learn the game of football, get physically fit, and stay involved in productive after-school activities with adult mentors. The YFF also has provided youth football participants with safe and accessible places to play as well as programs and initiatives that address the importance of proper coaching, academics, health and safety and life skills development.

LOCAL AGNECY GRANTS Through the Local Agency Grant Program, small-level grants ($500-$3,500) are awarded to affiliates of the NFL National Youth Football Partners to support outstanding local youth flag and tackle programs. This initiative reaches thousands of children each year by providing funding for costs associated with running new and existing youth football programs and leagues in communities nationwide. These grants serve as a motivator for local groups to include youth football as part of their curriculum and recognize agencies for exceptional and innovative youth football programming. Affiliates of the following national youth organizations are eligible to apply for Local Agency Grant funding: • Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) • American Youth Football, Inc. • Boys & Girls Clubs of America • Jewish Community Centers Association • National Football Foundation • National Recreation & Park Association • National Association of Police Athletic Leagues • Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. • YMCA of the USA

Since 1999, the Local Agency Grant program has awarded $156,785 to support youth football initiatives in Western New York. In 2006, $47,500 was awarded to local agencies in the

Western New York area.

Since it’s inception, the Buffalo Bills have allocated $1.9 million to support youth football programming in Western New York, players, alumni and coaches.

The NFL Grassroots Program provides grants of up to $200,000 for capital improvement projects.

NFL PLAYER MATCHING YOUTH & HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GRANTS Through the NFL Youth Football Fund’s (YFF) Player Matching Youth & High School Football Grant Program, current NFL players who make financial contributions to youth and high school football programs may apply to the YFF for matching grants for the youth or high school football program of their choice. During the 2006 football season the Buffalo Bills Youth Football Stadium has hosted nearly 50 youth football games becoming one of the premier spots to play football in the area. Throughout the season youth organizations used the facility each weekend the Bills were playing away games. The field helped host a number of youth football events such as the I-90 Youth Football Classic, in which Buffalo-area youth football teams squared off against Rochester-area youth football teams. The ten leagues belonging to the Western New York Youth Football Federation used the facility to host a number of their regular season games including playoff and championship games. On October 28th, the kids even got a chance to play night games as the Bills rented lights for the Hunter James Kelly Youth Football Championships. The facility also transcended to high school football as it hosted a game between Eden High School and Gowanda High School during the opening weekend of high school football. In 2004, the Buffalo Bills became the first NFL franchise to open a facility dedicated for youth football on the same grounds as the team headquarters pioneering the NFL Youth Football initiative. The manicured, regulation-size grass football field is located in the shadows of Ralph Wilson Stadium in a space formally occupied by the Bills’ outdoor practice field. Over the past two years the Buffalo Bills Youth Football Stadium has received added features to become one of the top facilities to play football for young athletes in Western New York. In 2005, the Bills expanded the viewing area which includes permanent bleachers for 500 spectators and a press box. Over this past summer a concession building was built, a sound system was installed and field goal posts where added. The Buffalo Bills do not charge a fee to youth or high school football that use the facility. All proceeds made, such at the concession stand, go directly back to the youth football groups.

For over 20 years the Buffalo Bills have honored high school football in Western New York with a special “Salute to High School Football” ceremony during a December home game. That tradition continued as the Bills honored the Harvard Cup City League Champions, Monsignor Martin League Champions, Bills Coach of the Week winners, and the All-Western New York High School Football Team.

For twelve years the Bills have honored the team that won the city of Buffalo’s historic Harvard Cup Championship. In 2006 the Bills were proud to salute the McKinley High School Macs. On Thanksgiving, McKinley High School defeated Grover Cleveland High School by the score of 14-0 on their quest to win back-to-back Buffalo Public High School Championships. The 103rd Harvard Cup was held at the newly renovated All-High Stadium in front of nearly 3,500 fans. The defending champions Macs ended the season on a 10-game winning streak and have now won 19 games in a row in Harvard Cup League play. McKinley High School now has a 10-1-2 overall record when playing on Thanksgiving. The Buffalo Bills also saluted the Cardinal O’Hara High School football team who won the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association League “A” title. The Cardinal O’Hara Hawks finished the season with an undefeated record of 9-0. Their winning streak has stretched back to the 2005 season as the Hawks have been riding a 17-game winning streak. In 2006, the Hawks rolled through the regular season and into the playoffs with a 65-0 win over Niagara Catholic in the semi-finals and then a 28-0 shut-out win in the finals against rival St. Mary’s of Lancaster which was played here at Ralph Wilson Stadium. At the conclusion of the season, the Cardinal O’Hara team is now ranked #1 in Greater Niagara and also received a #1 ranking in small schools of Western New York.

Buffalo Bills linebacker London Fletcher-Baker has been named the 2006 Buffalo Bills Walter Payton Man of the Year as voted on by selected members of the Western New York community. This is the second consecutive year that Fletcher-Baker has won the award. This prestigious award began in 1970 and honors players who demonstrate outstanding balance in their lives between civic and professional responsibilities. In 1999, the NFL renamed the award after the late Walter Payton as a tribute to his greatness both on and off the field. Thus far in the 2006 season, Fletcher-Baker’s level of play ranks among the top defensive players in the NFL. He is one of the NFL’s leading tacklers and he is one of three defensive players in the NFL with two touchdowns. On Sunday, December 10, at New York, he started his 100th consecutive game and has not missed a game in his nine-year NFL career. He has been his team’s leading tackler in each of the last seven seasons. On the field or off of it, Fletcher-Baker is a difference maker in Buffalo. He has served as the spokesman for the Verizon Wireless HopeLine collection, since joining the Bills in 2002, an annual stadium cell phone collection that takes place in October in recognition of domestic violence awareness month. He makes frequent appearances to promote the collection and increase the awareness of supporting victims of domestic violence.

For the past three years, Fletcher-Baker partnered with Buffalo’s Community Action Information Center to provide 59 turkeys to families in need at Thanksgiving. Fletcher-Baker delivers the turkeys and spends time with families in the neighborhood. As a Cleveland, OH native, Fletcher-Baker also reaches out to support residents in his hometown. For the past five years, he has hosted turkey give-a-ways for Thanksgiving and a holiday dinner for underprivileged children and their families. He provides children with new bikes and helmets as holiday gifts at the dinner.

In 2005, Fletcher-Baker secured two NFL Youth Football Fund Player Matching Grants. A $10,000 grant went to his former high school, Villa Angela - St. Joseph High in Cleveland and a $7,000 grant was donated to United Youth Development, Inc. in Colesville, Missouri. Since 2002, he has donated a total of $100,000 to his alma mater John Carroll University. Fletcher-Baker coordinates many of these programs through the London’s Bridge Foundation, its purpose is to bond and build young lives through education, communication and encouraging youth to aspire to the highest potential in life. Early in 2006, they established a college preparation program for high school seniors. As part of the program the 50 students from Cleveland public high schools attend SAT and ACT preparatory classes, courses on financial aid, and the students are assisted with college visits. The first, of what he hopes will be many, college scholarships were awarded this year to three high school seniors. Each received $1,500 towards their college tuition. As the Bills Walter Payton Man of the Year, Fletcher-Baker will receive $1,000 for the charity of his choice from NFL Charities and is eligible for the league-wide NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year honor. The NFL Man of the Year will be selected by a blue ribbon panel and recognized at a press conference during Super Bowl week in Miami. The national winner will receive a $25,000 donation to the 501-c-3 organization of his choice. Former Bills honored with this award include: Drew Bledsoe, Brian Moorman, Jim Kelly, Jerry Butler, Ted Washington and Ruben Brown.
