WeaponLights have only one purpose, only one reason to exist— to give you the edge. Once youenter a dark, dangerous environment, trust your SureFire WeaponLight™ to perform. Watertight, shockproof, ruggedly reliable, a SureFire WeaponLight fights as hard as you do. Because in agunfight, winning is everything.

To that end, everything that we do— everything that we have laboriously designed and painstakingly test-ed— must be measured against this ultimate victory. You will prevail because of a number of factors— yourtactics, your mindset, your indomitable spirit— and also because you entered the fight with superior tools.

SureFire WeaponLights are tactical illumination tools. They’re purpose-built to fit a wide variety offirearms: handguns, rifles, submachineguns and shotguns. Some are modular, capable of adapting tomission-specific requirements, while others are dedicated housings that precisely mate to one make andmodel. All are tough, strong, durable and reliable.

And they’re bright. Dazzlingly, blindingly, searingly bright. A SureFire WeaponLight dominates thedarkness, giving you so much tactical light that an adversary can be temporarily blinded and disoriented.Such a powerful lighting tool is a “force option” in a law enforcement situation, a non-lethal means offorcing a suspect to capitulate. The power of light is indeed formidable. When you review the variousoptions on our WeaponLights, my advice is that you select the most powerful light with the largest bezel that you are willing to afford and capable ofcarrying. You can always work around having too much light, but if you don't have enough, it could cost you your life.

    Godspeed,

    The Zen Of ConstantImprovement

This is the new 2002 SureFire WeaponLights™catalog and it is out-of-date already. In fact, itwas out-of-date the minute it was finished becauseof SureFire’s process of continuous improvement.Every week, every day, every hour, we work to bet-ter our products. The engineering team strives toimprove on what many consider perfection— thefinest tactical illumination tools ever built.

But we know there is always room forimprovement. A brighter lamp design. An improvedswitch. Increased run-time. Navigation LEDs.Infrared filters. Better ergonomics.

This is the new 2002 SureFire WeaponLights™catalog and it is already incomplete. We have aseparate catalogs for our tactical flashlights and forour law enforcement and military training program, which is conducted by the SureFire Institute.

SureFire’s lighting tools— and the training doc-trine that defines their tactical use— reflect over twodecades of developmental efforts in close coopera-tion with our law enforcement and military cus-tomers. The goal of this development was simple—to help you prevail in low-light environments.

SureFire WeaponLights were not developed forhunters, although a dedicated WeaponLight forendon a Remington 870 would be ideal for venturinginto the dark, thick mopane after a gut-shot leopard.SureFire WeaponLights were not designed forvarmint hunters, although a rifle-mounted light wouldbe the ticket for nailing coyotes at night. Hunters cancertainly benefit from these products, but they werenot the driving force which led to their creation.“Sporting purpose” was not behind them.

SureFire WeaponLights were developed forthose who go in harm’s way in defense of our soci-ety and nation, as well as for those law-abiding indi-viduals who have accepted the responsibility for thearmed defense of their person, their home and theirfamily. SureFire developed the first WeaponLight forour local law enforcement SWAT teams in the early1980s, focusing primarily on lights for the HK MP5submachinegun, the 1911 Government Model pistol, and the 12 ga. pump shotgun.

Since then, the SureFire WeaponLight productline has grown to encompass virtually all servicehandguns, duty shotguns, battle rifles, and subma-chineguns used by law enforcement and militaryunits worldwide. We offer tactical lights encased ina dedicated forend that replaces the weapon’sstock forend and we offer component-based sys-tems that can adapt to fit most weapons.

Additionally, we offer a wide range of perform-ance-enhancing options and features, most beingmodular, to allow you to configure yourWeaponLight for your firearm. SureFire also offerstraining for law enforcement and military personnelon the tactical use of light in combative environ-ment. All of our products and all of our training isgeared toward one goal— helping you to prevailwhen you are called upon to fight.

    TABLE OF CONTENTS

  • 2002 SUREFIRE WEAPONLIGHTS4

SureFire WeaponLights come in many styles, versions, andmodels. Additionally, there are switch options, various lampassemblies, different filters, three kinds of laser modules, anda myriad of power alternatives— literally hundreds of permutations. When you are offered so many choices and options, it isn’t alwayseasy to choose, particularly when there are trade-offs and compro-mises to be made, as is always the case when dealing with light.

To assist you in the WeaponLight selection process, wewould like to share with you some of our ideas, observations, andexperiences on how to prepare for armed encounters in low light.

First things first— if you have any doubts about the validity ofmounting a light on your firearm, put them to rest. If you operatein low-light, you will need to supply light. The brighter the better.

And if you have a firearm in your hands, the most practicalway to illuminate the area while simultaneously manipulating orshooting your weapon is to have your light mounted on your gun. This provides “hands free” use of the light, leaving your hands onyour gun— finger off the trigger, of course.

So let us begin with a digression. Just because you have aWeaponLight on your firearm doesn't mean you don't need aSureFire hand-held flashlight. A double-negative, but the point isstill valid— you need a hand-held light too. The flashlight allowsyou to illuminate things you wouldn’t want to cover with yourmuzzle, such as a non-combatant, as well as well as provide youwith backup illumination and the ability to project your light fromangles difficult to achieve with a weapon-mounted light.

So always carry a suitable backup light, such as an M3CombatLight® from SureFire’s Special Operations Series. Someof the parts are interchangeable with those from some of ourWeaponLights, a significant tactical advantage.

Now, back to looking at WeaponLights and why you need one.A tactical illumination tool has two purposes. The first is the

obvious one, to allow you to see what needs to be seen in thedarkness. The second— which generally requires more lightpower and intensity than the first— is to disable an adversary tem-porarily by taking away his ability to see. Blind him with the light.

The value and validity of using light to disorient and overwhelman adversary is really brought home in low-light, force-on-forcetraining. It is here, “in the environment” as we say at the SureFireInstitute, that using tactical light against real human opponents, menwith guns who are trying their best to shoot you, shows clearly thetactical edge that a SureFire WeaponLight gives you.

Several principles have emerged from the Institute’s force-on-force training. Perhaps the most important of them all is the con-cept of using intermittent light, and moving after the light is trig-gered. We call this “light and move.” Use your light sporadically, randomly, flashing it on and off as you search. After you releasethe switch, move. This is simply a common sense approach tomaking yourself less of a target than if you wandered around withyour light constantly on, like a walking lighthouse.

The “light and move” principle— we would go so far as tocall it an imperative— is what governs the design of most ofswitches on SureFire flashlights and WeaponLights. We call themmomentary switches. Activated by modest pressure, either fingeror thumb, the momentary switches permit you to activate yourlight quickly, on-off-on-off, as you hunt your foe.

But there are more choices than just the switch. When youset about configuring your WeaponLights for your firearms, youmust also select the power, intensity and run-time of the light aswell as how and where the WeaponLight mounts to your firearm.Size, weight, and cost are also things you need to consider.

If it is not apparent by now, you will soon see that many ofthe choices and options in a WeaponLight are interrelated; trade-offs and compromises need to be made. Generally speaking, themore capable systems are bigger, heavier, and more costly. Butthe modular nature of SureFire WeaponLights allows you to makethe trade-offs that best meet your needs, and have the best possi-ble WeaponLight for your specific needs.

Why own a SureFire? Beyond the obvious reason ofproduct superiority— which probably shouldbe enough, given it’s your life and the lives ofthose for whom you are responsible that’s at stake here—you should own a SureFire because it’s the best. SureFireredefines the flashlight into a tactical tool with stunninglybetter performance, capable of temporarily blinding anopponent. It opens a new vista of nonlethal “force option”capability to the operator.

Why own a SureFire? The activation mechanism of atactical light— the switch— is absolutely essential forproper performance in a combative environment. Youmust have the ability to instantly trigger the light so thatyou can utilize “light and move” tactics. SureFire has apatented momentary tail-cap, specifically designed fortactical usage. A major reason to own a SureFire!

Why own a SureFire? Every feature on ourWeaponLights and hand-held tactical lights are the resultof over two decades of constant innovation. The result ofthe things that we discovered, invented or developed isthat the world’s elite military and law enforcement specialoperations units all swear by SureFire. When Newsweekmagazine featured a Special Forces operator inAfghanistan on its cover (October 29, 2001), the sol-dier’s M4, sure enough, was equipped with a SureFireWeaponLight.

Why own a SureFire? Our process of constant inno-vation is continuing at an accelerated pace. Even as youread this, we continue to find more ways to improve ourproducts and give you an ever greater tactical advantagein low-light operations.

Why own a SureFire? The perfect focus and beamquality of all SureFire lights. The use of shock isolation toprotect the lamp. The plethora of different power optionsand run-times. The interchangeable or replaceable lampassemblies, capable of quick-change within seconds, inthe dark, without tools, while maintaining perfect focus. The MilSpec Type 3 hard anodizing. The optically coated, tempered Pyrex windows. The advanced, high-perform-ance polymers for molded parts rather than ordinary ABSplastics. Everywhere you look, you will find we have cho-sen the best materials, the best components, and the bestprocesses in the manufacture of our products.

And that’s why you should own a SureFire.

Technical terminology in any specialized class ofproducts, from racing boats to jet fighters, canbe confusing to the uninitiated. SureFire usestechnical terms in its WeaponLights, and you may findthis catalog easier to read if you know the jargon. Hereis a basic lesson in SureFire-ese.

At its simplest, a SureFire WeaponLight systemconsists of a mount, a housing and a lamp module.Lithium batteries are included in the system, usuallycontained in the housing, but sometimes in an auxil-iary component or extension.

A switch controls the activation of the light, turn-ing it on and off. The switch can be either built intothe housing or connected to it by a length of cable.SureFire switches are mostly pressure-activated byeither finger or thumb pressure.

SureFire switches are critical to the performanceof a tactical light. We have probably paid more atten-tion to switches over the years than anything else, except the development of brighter lights. Proof of theamount of work we have put into our switches is foundin the number of patents we have been issued relatedto both our hand-held flashlights and ourWeaponLights.

Ideally, a WeaponLight or flashlight should incor-porate three types of switches, which we refer to asmomentary, constant-on and disable. The momen-tary switch activates the light only when pressure isapplied, the light going off the instant the finger orthumb is removed from the switch.

On a WeaponLight, the momentary switch needsto be located such that an operator can apply finger orthumb pressure without changing his grip on theweapon. It also needs to be ambidextrous.

The constant-on switches are two-positionswitches, either on or off. They provide the ability toturn the light on and have it stay on until it is manual-ly turned off. On WeaponLights, they are of a rocker, rotary, or shuttle design.

On shoulder-fired WeaponLights where theswitching is usually done with the support hand, pres-sure switches provide the operator with the means tokeep his light on when he removes his support handfrom the weapon, to open a door or control a suspect.

The disable switches are two-position switches, either allowing the light to be turned on by the momen-tary switch or totally disabling the light. They are wiredin series with the other switches and their purpose is todeactivate the other switches to prevent any unwantedturning on of the light, what we call a “white light AD.”

All SureFire switches have been tested in the mostrigorous conditions. All are watertight and some aretotally waterproof, down to 100 feet.

There are three types of tail-cap switches thatmount directly to a Millennium Universal System’shousing: a conventional momentary switch and a newmomentary switch with a second constant-on “click”position. The latter, new for 2002, was developed atthe request of one of our Special Forces customers.

A remote-momentary switch is also available. We call this a tape switch and it consists of a smallrubber-coated tab attached to the WeaponLight by alength of electrical cable. A tape switch can be placedanywhere on the weapon that the operator desires. Most frequently, operator’s pick either the gun’s pistolgrip or its forend.

The lamp module contains a shock-isolatedlamp assembly and the reflector. The lamp module

may also hold some of the batteries. The term shock-isolated refers to a mechanism by which we cushionthe lamp from the weapon’s recoil, which could oth-erwise shatter the bulb or break the filament.

The mount is what interfaces with the weapon, attaching the WeaponLight to a firearm. The mountcan be either separate or integral with the housing. Anexample of a separate mount is found in theMillennium Universal System which can be orderedwith either an A.R.M.S. throw-lever or a twin thumb-screw mount. An example of an integral mount is ourdedicated forend that replaces a weapon’s factoryforend.

When we say our WeaponLights are modular, wemean that some of the components are available indifferent, interchangeable versions. For example, mostSureFire lamp modules are modular as are the mountsutilized with the Millennium Universal System hous-ings. Some of the switches are modular, meaning youcan swap a momentary tail-cap for a tape switch.

We offer a multitude of different lamp modules, which provide the ability to utilize one, two, three, four or six lithium batteries with either standard orextra-large size bezel sizes. We refer to an extra-largebezel as a TurboHead. The bezel is the portion of thehousing that contains the lamp module. There are 1.4"and 1.6" diameter standard bezels. A TurboHead is a2.5" bezel.

The bezel contains the reflector. A lamp assemblyitself can also house a built-in reflector. The size of thereflector determines the size of the “hot spot” of thebeam, the intensely bright center. Most people assumethat the larger the reflector, the larger the beam, butactually the opposite is true— the larger the reflector,

the more tightly focused the beam.Consequently, a TurboHead producesthe smallest, brightest center of all thebeam patterns.

All WeaponLights come with achoice of power— high and extra-highpower, so to speak. Both are blindinglybright and capable of providing the“force option” of white light illumina-tion that has made SureFire the choiceof SWAT teams worldwide. The differ-ence is what one operator has describedas the “difference between incrediblybright and unbelievably bright.”

The run-time refers to the durationof a set of batteries. Run-time variesfrom 20 minutes for the unbelievablybright lamp to 60 minutes for theincredibly bright lamp. Being modular, the different lamps allow the operator tochange his WeaponLight’s performancesimply by changing the lamp assemblyor lamp module, without having toreplace the entire WeaponLight.

Additionally, you can replace thelamp module with an infrared illumina-tion module or a laser sight module. Thechoice of SureFire lights and theiroptions is, quite frankly, a bit overwhelm-ing. But what a wonderful problem.

    weaponlights for Handguns

Selecting a handgun-mounted light requires abit of education. You need to understand thatattaching a light to a handgun is not simply amatter of checking-off a box on your list ofTactical Things To Do Today. There are some verypoorly designed, flimsy handgun lights on themarket. Here’s how to tell a good one from amere box-checker.

First, insist on a handgun light with a shock-isolated lamp to withstand the punishing G-forces of a handgun’s recoil. The kick of a 9mmmay not seem like much, but the accelerationthat’s imparted to a light during recoil is notinconsiderable. SureFire engineered itsHandgun WeaponLights with the same superior,recoil-tough technology that’s incorporated inour shotgun WeaponLights— in other words,12 gauge tough.

Next, make certain that any handgun lightyou consider is capable of one-handed,ambidextrous activation. There are too manytimes that you might need one free hand whileholding your handgun and working your light. Tosafeguard a child. To hold a dog’s leash. To shep-herd a bystander to safety.

SureFire’s unique SlimLine™ switch encir-cles the front strap with a pressure pad— total-ly ambidextrous merely by obtaining a firinggrip. Squeeze your grip to activate the light. Beaware that safe gun handling demands that youkeep your finger off the trigger until you areready to fire.

Needless to say, you want a powerful light thatproduces enough lumens to temporarily blind anadversary. You want a light that gives you a tacticaladvantage.

Lastly, you want a handgun light that is rugged-ly mounted to the pistol, without interfering withthe weapon’s controls.

After all is said and done, you can see that thehandgun light you need is a SureFire HandgunWeaponLight.

S ureFire manufactures three dedicated WeaponLight™ systems specifically designed to mount on handgun: the Nitrolon Series,

the Military Series and the Millennium Series.s. Each series incorporates customized switches, batteries, lamp assemblies, and mechanical components to fit specific handgun makes and models. These dedicated WeaponLights hard-mount securely

to the handgun for rugged durability. All three series feature shock-isolated lamp assemblies with powerful Xenon lamps that accommodate two choices of lamps,

either high or extra-high power. The aluminum models are protected byMilSpec hard anodized finishing.

All three series come with either a SlimLine ambidextrous, single-handoperated pressure switch or a shuttle switch. The shuttle switch must bepushed left to right to turn on the WeaponLight, thus requiring two hands towork the light and grip the pistol. This is not optimum. A better choice fortactical applications is the SlimLine switch.

The Nitrolon Series holds two batteries and accepts either a 65 or 120lumen lamp. The Nitrolon Series, made of a space-age polymer, is light-weight yet tough.

The Military Series, made of aerospace-grade aluminum and uses a1.47" diameter bezel. It comes with two batteries and a choice of either a 65or 120 lumen lamp. The Military Series is totally waterproof to over 100 feet.

The Millennium Series holds three batteries and uses a 1.62" bezel. It comeswith both a 125 and a 225 lumen lamp. It is the largest, most powerful handgunWeaponLight on the market.

    Handgun Switch Options

SureFire’s patented SlimLine™ switch enables you to activate the

light by applying pressure as you grip the weapon. This ergonom-ic placement of the switch, tension-adjusted over the front strap, pro-vides tactical control of the light and the handgun simultaneously.Single-handed, totally ambidextrous operation allows the user tocontrol the SlimLine switch for instantaneous firing or lighting.

Weapon-Specific Replacement Forend WeaponLightsThese WeaponLights replace the existing forend with a completely integratedSureFire forend that contains all the switches, battery-holders and lamp mod-ules. We call these systems dedicated forends, meaning they have beendesigned for— dedicated to— particular makes and models of weapons.Dedicated forends are available for rifles, carbines, shotgun and submachine-guns. Our best selling models are for the Remington 870 shotgun, AR15 andM4 family and, of course, the ubiquitous MP5.

    SHOULDER-FIRED WEAPONlights

Preselected WeaponLight SystemsDrawing upon our experience in the field, SureFire has designed systems thatinclude the proper mounts, lamp modules and switches that represent theoptimal solution to specific weapons. Each system specifically fits the designat-ed weapon, including the correct cable lengths for tape switches.

Custom “Build-Your-Own” WeaponLight SystemsIn a clear, step-by-step guide, we lead you through the selection process toachieve a system that will fit your specific needs and mission requirements.

    Picatinny Rail-Mounted WeaponLights

SureFire Picatinny ForendSureFire offers a replacement forend with wrap-around Picatinny rails for two shot-guns, the Remington 870 and Mossberg 590, and the HK MP5 submachinegun.Other brands of Picatinny forends are also on the market from high regarded manu-facturers. SureFire rail-mounted WeaponLight systems attach to all standard 1913Picatinny interfaces.

Rail Mounted WeaponLightsSureFire offers two basic systems for mounting on a Picatinny rail, a vertical grip andthe new, state-of-the-art Millennium Universal System. The SureFire Vertical GripWeaponLight features a tough, shock-isolated lamp assembly and can be mounted ona shotgun, rifle, carbine or submachinegun. The Vertical Grip comes with LED naviga-tion lights in a choice of color, visible or infrared, and many other features.

Millennium Universal SystemA totally modular series with interchangeable mounts, lamp assemblies and bezels, this is the latest and most sophisticated WeaponLight system from SureFire. It isdesigned specifically and engineered exactly for mounting on Picatinny rails.

For weapons other than handguns, SureFire offers WeaponLight systems that can mount on shotguns, carbines, rifles and SMGs in one of the following ways:

dedicated forend WEAPONLIGHTSFor rifles, carbines and SUBMACHINEGUNS

Weapon-specific dedicated forend WeaponLights are designed to replace

the factory forend, or handguard, on a variety of firearms. Dedicated

forend WeaponLights offer the advantage of being integral with the

weapon and thus more securely attached with no exposed wires or cables.

Dedicated forends are made for shotguns, rifles, carbines and submachine-

guns. They attach solidly to the weapons with all necessary mounting hardware

and tools, if necessary for installation, provided by SureFire with the WeaponLight.

A variety of switching options are available. All dedicated forend

WeaponLights come with a momentary-on pressure switch, but a constant-on

rocker switch or a disable rocker switch is also available.

Like all of our WeaponLights, dedicated forends come with shock-isolated

lamp assemblies to cushion the punishing effects of recoil. Some of the systems

can be waterproofed for naval operations. All of the systems are as rugged as they

are reliable. All have been tested in combat and come up aces.

Dedicated forends come with blindingly powerful white lights, however, a

SureFire laser sight module can be interchanged with the lamp assembly to pro-

vide the operator with the strongest laser sight on the market, red, green or

infrared. Some operators choose to mount an auxiliary light elsewhere on the

weapon and utilize the dedicated forend for a laser sight since the laser is inline

with the bore axis, allowing for a more accurate zero.

SureFire developed its first dedicated WeaponLight at the request of the LAPD

SWAT Team for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Since then, SureFire has contin-

ued to innovate and improve its dedicated forends and WeaponLight systems to

the point that today’s operator can select the perfect light or laser for his mission.

S erious operators have come to appreciate the advantageof a Picatinny interface on a combat weapon. Primarily, aPicatinny forend lends an unparalleled latitude of versatility to theweapon, enabling the operator to affix a white light, infrared light, visible laser, infrared laser, a plain vertical grip or a Vertical GripWeaponLight™.

U.S. Special Forces led the way in popularizing an acces-sorized forend when they adopted a Picatinny handguard on theirM4 rifles. SureFire, recognizing the applicability of the Picatinnyconcept to other CQB weapons such as the HK MP5 and theRemington 870 combat shotgun, developed new forends for thesebattle-tested weapons.

Like all SureFire products, the new Picatinny forend meets orexceeds the most stringent military requirements, such as exposureto salt water and hard field use.

The Millennium UniversalSystem Model 961 is shownwith the new momentary-on,constant-on click switch.

Extruded from high-strength, aero-space-grade aluminum, SureFire forends areconfigured to military standard 1913Picatinny specifications. Additionally,SureFire engineers incorporated heat-dissi-pating ventilation holes that also serve toreduce weight.

SureFire Millennium™ Universal Systemsor Vertical Grip WeaponLights™ may beaffixed to the Picatinny forends in a variety ofconfigurations to suit mission-specific needs.

SureFire Picatinny Forends areavailable for Remington 870 andMossberg 590 pump shotguns.

I ncorporated into the Vertical Grip are two low-level output LED navigationlights. Navigation lights allow the operator to maneuver over rough or litteredterrain without giving away his position from the bright light of his WeaponLight. The LEDs come in red, white, blue and infrared. The LEDsare activated by an inde-pendent pressure switch, accessed by the thumb, ergonomically located atthe rear of the Vertical Grip.

Navigation LEDs pro-duce only a few lumens, enough to see obstacles ordebris, but not enough tocompromise your position.

permits the operator to mount anergonomic tactical light on any weapon witha Picatinny interface. A vertical grip is notonly conducive to certain techniques of fir-ing in a CQB environment, but also theattachment aids in weapon retention. Thepowerful SureFire light contained in theVertical Grip WeaponLight is a potent tacti-cal advantage in low-light combat.

Since the Millennium Vertical Grip is strictly a three-bat-tery light, it uses only the 9-volt “A” or “AB” LampModules.

The “A” Lamp Module offers two Lamp Assemblies:1) the MN10, producing 125 lumens2) the MN11, producing 225 lumens

The “AB” Lamp Module also offers two Lamp Assemblies:1) the MN15, producing 125 lumens, and2) the MN16, producing 225 lumens.

The difference between the two is the size and range ofthe beam, which is a direct result of the size of the reflec-tor. The 125 lumen lamp assembly is factory-installed andcan be replaced in the field with the 225 lumen lampassembly when more powerful light is required. Both lampassemblies come standard with the unit.

The light can be activated by either pressure switcheson the pistol grip or a rotational switch positioned forwardof the grip.
