Students may also choose to take this program for personal development and a deeper understanding of yoga, an ancient system for personal transformation and skillful living. Upon completion of this 10-unit program, students will meet the eligibility requirements to register with Yoga Alliance as a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200), an internationally recognized credential for yoga teachers. Topics of study in this skills certificate include: yoga techniques including asana, pranayama and meditation; teaching methodology, anatomy and physiology, the business of yoga, and yoga philosophy, lifestyle and ethics. Students will also develop their teaching skills through a 50-hour teaching practicum that can be completed at the College or with an industry partner. All classes emphasize hands-on, practical, experiential activities and are facilitated by faculty with professional and academic credentials in both yoga and kinesiology. Andrea Thomas Kinesiology Instructor and Yoga 200-hour Teacher Training Program Coordinator

Andrea Thomas has a Master’s degree in Exercise Science from The George Washington University and is a full-time Kinesiology Instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College. Andrea appreciates yoga’s gifts of physical comfort and challenge, self-awareness, community and tools for working with the mind. She began practicing yoga in 1998 as a way to manage stress and connect with one of her closest friends. Having taught group exercise classes since she was a college student in Minnesota, after several years of taking classes and home practice she decided to share her love of yoga and enrolled in Asheville Yoga Center’s 200-hour teacher training program. After teaching hundred of classes in colleges, studios,

fitness centers and to recreational and professional athletes, Andrea completed a 500-hour advanced teacher training through Body Balance Yoga. Considering herself a lifelong student, she has continued her studies with trainings in yin yoga, restorative yoga, meditation, Buti yoga, the chakra system, yoga philosophy and Ayurveda.

Tara Jacobson Kinesiology Instructor

Tara Jacobson has a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology (emphasis Fitness, Nutrition, and Health) and a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from San Diego State University. Tara is a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher in Integrative Yoga Therapy through Yoga Alliance and certified through ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) as an Exercise Physiologist . She has taught group exercise classes since high school and was a personal trainer for many years. Currently, her teaching schedule each term includes a variety of fitness based classes (including Mat Pilates, Yoga, Body Conditioning, Weight Training, Cardio Kickboxing, and Boot Camp) and lecture classes such as Principles of Health and

Wellness, Introduction to Kinesiology, Yoga Teaching Methodology, and Techniques of Fitness Instruction. She is the coordinator for the Certificate program in Fitness, Nutrition, and Health for students wanting to become fitness instructors or personal trainers and oversees the Kinesiology program at the Petaluma Campus.
