Park’s Edge Preschool
Put a little PEP in your life!
Dear Park’s Edge Preschool Families: “Love and Friendship” is February’s special theme at Park’s Edge Preschool...
The United Church of Christ’s Council for Health and Human Service Ministries, (CHHSM) reminds us to love and serve one another, reinforcing Jesus’ message demonstrating servant leadership. CHHSM and/or Health and Human Service was celebrated on Sunday, January 26, 2020. PEP staff participated in the ‘blessing of the hands’ during worship service at Emanuel Church. If you work in the human service industry you are blessed.
CHHSM Ministries serves diverse populations ranging from early childhood programs to senior living communities. Park’s Edge Preschool is a nationally recognized UCC CHHSM Ministry. CHHSM’s Annual Meeting will be held in Memphis, Tennessee, March 3
rd through March
5th
! The 2020 national meeting’s theme is ‘Grace and Justice—Together’.
Ms. Jenele has been Park’s Edge Preschool’s liaison teacher to Emanuel Church’s Sunday School program for over 5 years. Jenele has been in a year-long study program through CHHSM. The focus of the Nollau Institute has been on servant leadership…or as Jenele refers to it from a
recent class discussion, ‘serving leadership’. I am excited to announce that Jenele will be consecrated as a Diakonal Minister at this year’s CHHSM Meeting. Congratulations Jenele…we are so proud of you!
It’s a very special time of year for everyone to celebrate love and friendship. The children at Park’s Edge Preschool will be busy making valentines for exchanging with their peers. Special valentine activities are planned in each classroom throughout the week of February 10-14. Please see specific details for your child’s classroom. The Park’s Edge Preschool Valentine’s Day tradition is a center-wide parade at 10am on Friday, February 14! Children/staff should dress in red, pink, purple and/or hearts. Family members are welcome to come watch!
Did you know February is National Dental Health Month? This month children will be treated to a very important presentation on good dental hygiene. The preschoolers will learn about proper dental care. We have a special visitor ‘Mr. Rick Allen and Happy Healthy Teeth’ coming to the center on Monday, February 17
th to reinforce
healthy dental hygiene habits. PEP is promoting future happy smiles because we have a lot to smile about here!
Communication is key at Park’s Edge
Preschool…that is why it is important to communicate any daily schedule changes for your child by phone to the PEP center office (if the child is absent, not riding the bus for the day, etc.) rather than email. Office staff sometimes are away from their desk/computer and do not want to miss any important communications. If you know in advance of any schedule change, please complete the required form located over family mailboxes and give to the office staff. Thank you.
The preschool children will also be creating extra-special valentines for our friends, the residents at Hales Corners Care Center, Forest Ridge Senior Community and at the Zablocki VA Hospital. Heart healthy snacks will be prepared for a healthy Valentine’s Day celebration for all to enjoy! You’re welcome to join us…come and watch…you may receive a special valentine! Valentine’s Day gives reason to share God’s simple message with the children we care for… to ‘love one another’. Happy Valentine’s Day! Ellen M. Kvalheim

of milestones are being accomplished. Layla, our monkey, is crawling all
over the room. Connor is pulling himself up to his
knees to explore what is on the shelves. Nora is getting around the room the 'Nora
way.' Jackson has been sitting all by himself for longer stretches of time. Mason is our child of the month. He loves to listen
to silly stories, rolling over onto his stomach all the time. and he gives great
big smiles and hugs. We have his pictures on
display all month to see his personality at home
too. The past month we
worked really hard on our artwork and are
happy to display it all around the room. My
favorite is our palm tree and Valentine art.
We hope everyone has a fun filled and loving
Valentine's Day.

February brings lots of love for the Love Bugs! We are excited for our annual Valentine's Day parade of Friday, February 14th at
10am. Please make sure to wear red, white, purple or
hearts. Please make sure to fill in
and check your child's daily sheet. These are a
very important component in effective communication about your child's day and
items they may need. We are moving and
shaking in our room. Lots
our hats, using our utensils and drinking out of a sippy cup for
some of our friends. Our classroom is on the go.
Declan has started to talk and says 'buba' when it's time for his
bottle. Nate is recognizing yellow and blue. Kurtis has
become a full-time walker and is on the go. Cameron is doing
great with transitions throughout the day. Cecelia is
getting really good at matching colors on puzzles. Hanna is
doing excellent with her spoon and fork. Eric says and signs
'more please.'
Happy February everyone! The birthstone and flower for February are Amethyst and
Violets. We were surprised that it wasn't roses, who knew? This month the children's favorite activity was Brown
Bear, Brown Bear Turn Around. It is a music and movement song that they
enjoy. Another class favorite is bubbles.
Our classroom goal of Identifying body parts-head,
eyes and mouth were mastered. The goal for this month is
working on more self help skills. Some examples are putting on
Our child of the month is Leah. Leah is doing excellent with taking on/off her hat and
shoes. She is always walking around the classroom saying 'hi' to everyone who walks in.
Leah's favorite activity is art. She loves to make new projects. We will be sending home a heart to decorate and tell us
one thing you love about your child.
Happy Valentine's Day, we hope to see you at the parade on
Friday, February 14th at 10am. God Bless,
Ms. Julie, Ms. Karlie
snowy day we walked in the
shoes of explores and hunters
and followed various paw prints
in the snow. That is when we
saw nature at its best– pure and
untouched. The tracks told us a
story of animals undisturbed by
the daily hustle and bustle of
the human world. When we
thought that we’d seen
everything, a full grown doe
was spotted resting on our hill
among the trees. The children
observed it with the rest of her
kind. That day was the
highlight of this January for
One-twelfth of the year is
already gone. As parents and
children, as well as some
teachers returned from
vacations, we turned a new page
in our book of knowledge. We
talked about snow, ice, and
hibernating animals, while
nature decided to flex its
muscles and remind us what
winter is all about. We’ve got
plenty of snow which allowed us
to try our hands at making
snowmen. Another advantage
that came with snowfall was the
ability to see animal tracks for
any untrained eye. So on one
our class and we are excited to see
what February has in store for us.
We will be celebrating love and
friendship as Valentine’s Day
draws near. On this note we will
be showing a lot love in February
as our classroom goal is to
welcome and teach our new
friends the routine of our
classroom.
Keep your children as well as
yourselves warm-through extra
layers of both clothing and love.

January was all about the cold, and all the fun that comes with winter! Our Sunshine friends made so much progress in the
area of getting themselves ready to go outside. It seemed like every day a new friend was able to put their snow pants, and boots on.
What a treat to witness such a big accomplishment. This month we are still working on dressing for
the cold, but we are also focusing on cleaning up, and helping our-selves at meal times with pouring and serving. It’s amazing to watch
confidence grow as they start to master these very important life
skills. February also will bring us
Magic Rick. We can’t wait to see the faces of the little ones, as they get to
witness a show of magic and wonder. We know the teachers will be just as mesmerized as we learn
about healthy teeth!
Our child of the month for February is Lizzie! Lizzie loves to have her
banana each morning with her friends. She loves Paw Patrol, and her big sister Stella. Her favorite activity is cooking up a storm in
dramatic play. She is such a sweet and cheerful part of the Sunshine
room. Happy Valentines Day, from the
Sunshine Room!

Fantastic Frogs
Love is in the air! Cupid is buzzing around, dropping arrows of love all over Parks Edge! It’s the time of year we all get to eat chocolate guilt free, and tell our friends and family how much we
care about them. Also did we mention chocolate:)
Last month we welcomed five new friends to the sunshine room. Former Busy Bees Phoebe, Elise,
Coral, Raul, and JonJon all buzzed their way down to
Sunshine! They dove right in, and became part of this fun loving
family.
Brr... What a chilly snow filled January we have had
together. Our goal for January was
putting on snow pants and boots for outside time, we
have gotten so much better and we will continue this goal this month as well.
Our next goal for February is to then have the children put their snow gear in their
cubbies. The whole class has really
been enjoying the book 'Yoga Whale' by Sarah Jane
Hinder. Their favorite
poses are downward dog, butterfly and octopus. The song we will be working
on this month is 'This is the way we brush our teeth.' To celebrate Valentine's Day, we are asking that
everyone decorates a heart that we will send home,
and write what you love to do as a family. Our annual Valentine's Day parade will be Friday, February 14th at
10am. All are welcome.
Our child of the month is Bodie. Bodie enjoys
dressing up, building with legos and pushing cars around the room. Bodie loves to take a morning 'selfie' with his dad and
give his big brother a high five in the morning. We
love seeing the pictures of Bodie from home displayed
in the classroom this month.
We hope everyone has a
love filled February.

The snow finally came! I don’t
know about you, but we were so
excited! Happy February!
This month we are looking
forward to learning about
Groudhog Day, Time, Opposites
and of course our Teeth!
February is National Children’s
Dental Health Month. Every
February we have a visitor
come to teach us about taking
good care of our teeth! This year
Mr. Rick the Magician will be
doing a special teeth magic
show at Park’s Edge!
In January we learned about
bears and other animals that
hibernate. Along with learning
about hibernation we learned
about migration. We learned
that when animals migrate they
move somewhere warmer for a
little bit. We also learned about
arctic animals! Animals stay
warm in the Arctic through a
special layer of fat called
blubber! The children found this
to be silly and cool.
This month we worked on our
letter sounds with songs! We
are learning them very quickly!
We’re going to keep working
on letter sounds, but now we are
going to use them to help
recognize words with picture
cues to help us start reading.
As a reminder please send or
leave here snowpants, boots,
hats, gloves and a coat!
We really appreciate all your
help making our days run as
smooth as possible!
Looking forward to a fun and
snowy February! Xoxo

Policy Reminder: Park’s Edge Preschool usually remains open during times of inclement weather. In the unfortunate event of an
emergency, that forces us to close (power outage, fire, tornado, and/or snow emergency), a parent will be notified by the staff and have 1 hour to pick-up their child from the center or ‘Healthwise’, our next-door neighbor, is a
designated, authorized, alternate site. In the event the emergency happens overnight, or before hours of
operation, a closing message will be posted on our Facebook page. The center closing will also be listed on the local news channels: TMJ4, FOX 6 News and WISN Channel 12. Daily expenses are incurred; therefore, tuition

Happy February! I hope everyone is enjoying the winter weather. I would like to thank all
the parents who ordered books for the month of January. Many of you ordered through the scholastic website using our P.E.P code. Prices are .50 lower and you have more of a selection to choose from when you place an order online.
Plus if you decide to place an online order of $25.00 or more you get a FREE book ($5.00
value) Just by using the code READ. February catalogs have arrived and will be in your mailboxes the first week of this month. There are many books to choose that your child will love at great prices. Every family
who places an order of $10 or more gives P.E.P 100 points to purchase new books for our
classrooms. Literacy is a big part of children’s learning development and our kids love books!
Have a Great Month,
Ms. Sandra
A Pastor’s Note
Our children may be young, but it’s not too early to teach them hope.
Seems to me that children are born hopeful. I may be naive, but when I’m with anyone younger than, say, twelve years old, their default’s pretty positive. I hope that perception’s at least mostly correct.
I also know that our world that makes hope tough to sustain. Whether it’s maturity refined by hard knocks or a 24-hour news cycle, becoming cynical can be tempting.
Still, our children cannot thrive without the capacity to see hope, and not fear, in their future. Neither can we. So here’s my modest recommendation for sustaining hope: While we can’t fix the world by ourselves, we have more power than we know to nurture hope in our homes, and even our communities. When our kids see that, they learn from us. Hopeful
service to others can become their normal, perhaps for a lifetime.
I learned that from my granddaughters. When a hurricane hit their aunt’s home in Puerto Rico, their parents decided to contribute toward relief work. That sparked an idea among these 6- and 8-year old girls, who sold lemonade in the
neighborhood to raise money too. It worked; they did it the next year, and last year too. Two girls and lemonade (plus some Facebook publicity by Mom & Dad) brought in $1,200, and there’s no turning back—these kids are officially
hopeful, confident, global problem-solvers.
