School Grounds
It is very important that children leave to go straight home after
school unless they are being supervised by their parents. School
grounds need to be vacated by parents and students by no later
than 4:00pm as After School Care - OSHC use the grounds after
that time.
Teachers supervise the playground area daily from:
Before school: 8.45am – 9.00am
After School: 3.30pm – 3.45pm
Working Bee
We currently have very few families attending the Working Bee on
Friday 29th March - 4:00-8:00pm. We are planning to continue the
renovations in the Environmental Garden and begin planting out
the Cecil St boundary fence along with routine maintenance of
play areas. Many hands make light work and we would love
some more assistance. To attend this event please click here:

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
On Friday 15th March our school took part in the National Day of Action against Bullying and
Violence.
We ran activities in class and created a whole school pledge (see below) that was signed by
every student and presented at assembly to take a stand together against all forms of bullying
and violence.
Achievement Harmony Respect Cooperation Responsibility
Over the last 6 weeks, Prep – Grade 6 have been exploring the Coatesville School Values of
Respect, Responsibility, Cooperation Achievement and Harmony, choosing one Value to focus
on per week.
Through in-depth discussions, relevant learning activities, critical thinking skills and negotiation
each grade has produced five statements of intent, for each Value. These statements, which
make up the Grade Level Essential Agreement, reflect the common understanding amongst
students about the behavioural and attitudinal expectations that contribute to a safe and
positive learning community.
The Grade Level Essential Agreement underpins Coatesville Primary School’s Positive Behaviours
Model, is referenced by students and teachers throughout the year and reviewed in Term 3.
Every Grade level will send home their specific Essential Agreement and we encourage parents
and caregivers to ask their child/ren to explain their understanding of the Essential Agreement.

Positive Education - Mindfulness
Achievement Harmony Respect Cooperation Responsibility
‘Mindfulness is the practice of focusing attention on the experience of the current moment, with
an attitude of non-judgemental acceptance and curiosity’ (Kabat-Zinn, 1994).
At Coatesville, students and teachers practice mindfulness in both formal and informal ways.
Formal practices may include mindful meditations, breathing exercises, mindful walks or brain
breaks. Informal practices may include noticing sensations when they are outside playing or
paying close attention to someone who is telling them something. Being mindful is essentially,
‘living in the moment’ and there is a great deal of evidence to suggest this has a positive impact
on our mental health.
Here are some tips of how you can bring mindful practices into life outside school:
Use a mindfulness app or website such as Smiling
Mind (www.smilingmind.com.au) to try meditations
which tap into breathing techniques and body
scans.
Slow down. Avoid rushing and leave plenty of time
to get to places to allow for impromptu
appreciation of the little things you may discover
on the way.
Spend plenty of time outdoors. Being in nature can
trigger mindfulness without much effort, particularly
when the time is spent unstructured and without
time restraints.
Eat dinner together as a family and engage in
active listening and mindful eating.
Have a digital detox and create opportunities for
quality family time without the distraction of devices.

Please be aware ... Gastro Is Back!
There seems to be a “Gastric Bug” going around our school at present. Please be
mindful if your child complains of tummy pains.
Symptoms of gastro include –
stomach cramps / pains increasing in severity over a few days
low appetite or no appetite
nausea
diarrhoea
headaches
loss of energy
vomiting – but not always
not feeling right – but can’t say why
These symptoms could last up to five days. Please keep your child at home and
notify the school of their absence.
As advised by the Victorian Department of Health (see below link) exclusion
periods apply for Gastro. You will need to keep your child at home until 24 hours
after your child last stopped vomiting or their appetite and energy levels have
increased. If your child has these symptoms – please keep an eye on other siblings
as it is highly contagious.
This is a timely reminder that washing hands and not sharing cutlery, glasses / cups
or towels in the household is very important in stopping the spread of viruses.
