In more recent Ɵmes however, she has been working in the area of teacher training and educaƟon in Bacau in Timor Leste. Yesterday she visited a number of classes from dierent year levels to share news of her work there and her perspecƟves on the many My Inner Journey We believe that the Father is drawing us to himself through every moment of our life and in every bre of our being. The best way to foster our inner journey is through prayer that meets Jesus on the level of the heart. We tell him what is going on inside us, not to give him informaƟon, but simply to meet him at that level – to tell him not only what is happening to us, but what is happening in us. For example, we all have the experience of being worried or living with fear. Once our concerns start to build up and threaten to overwhelm us, a very simple prayer is to say – “Jesus, be in this worry and redeem it; be in this fear and redeem it.” If we keep saying this prayer (and someƟmes it is quite a baƩle) we will experience that the concern will die down and our anxiety will grow less. Why? Because we have shiŌed the focus of our heart from the worry and the fear to the presence of Jesus. His presence always changes the way we see and experience things. The mistake that so many of us make is that in our prayer we move the acƟon from the heart to the head, trying to work out our problems and solve them. When we do this, we lose contact with Jesus because we become beset by intellectual quesƟons. Most of life’s quesƟons don’t start in the head; they start in the heart and that’s the only place to deal with them. The level where our head and our heart meet, is where the Spirit is at work. Here, we touch our truth, the level of our integrity. When the head and the heart and the Spirit are all in line, we experience an ease, a rightness in what we are doing. On the other hand, if either the head or the heart are out of line or not in line with the Spirit, we experience a disease. We become fragmented.

Dear Parents and Students

In the season of Lent, as we make  me to stop, to be quiet and s ll and to be deeply reflec ve, we begin the steps of an inner journey.  The Jesuit fathers offer us this perspec ve on our inner journey.

Let us pray for the grace of Freedom that comes through prayer that meets Jesus on the level of the heart.  Amen.

Visit from Sr Diaan Stuart IBVM

Yesterday we were fortunate to welcome back to Loreto Coorparoo Sr Diaan Stuart.   Sr Diaan  is a past pupil of Loreto Cooparoo and a former Principal of both Loreto Normanhurst and Loreto Marryatville.   In more recent  mes however, she  has  been working  in  the  area  of  teacher  training  and  educa on  in Bacau  in  Timor  Leste.    Yesterday  she  visited           a number of classes from different year levels to share news of her work there and her perspec ves on the many

My Inner Journey

We believe that the Father is drawing us to himself through every moment of our life and in every fibre of our      being.

The best way to foster our  inner journey  is through prayer that meets Jesus on the  level of the heart.   We tell him what is going on inside us, not to give him informa on, but simply to meet him at that level – to tell him not only what  is happening to us, but what  is happening  in us.   For example, we all have the experience of being worried or  living with fear.   Once our concerns start to build up and threaten to overwhelm us, a very simple prayer is to say – “Jesus, be in this worry and redeem it; be in this fear and redeem it.”  If we keep saying this prayer (and some mes it is quite a ba le) we will experience that the concern will die down and our anxiety will grow less.  Why?  Because we have shi ed the focus of our heart from the worry and the fear to the presence of Jesus.  His presence always changes the way we see and experience things.

The mistake  that  so many of us make  is  that  in our prayer we move  the ac on  from  the heart  to  the head,        trying  to work out our problems and  solve  them.   When we do  this, we  lose contact with  Jesus because we         become beset by intellectual ques ons.  Most of life’s ques ons don’t start in the head; they start in the heart and that’s the only place to deal with them.

The  level where our head and our heart meet,  is where the Spirit  is at work.   Here, we touch our truth, the level of our  integrity.   When  the head and  the heart and  the Spirit are all  in  line, we experience an ease, a      rightness in what we are doing.  On the other hand, if either the head or the heart are out of line or not in line with the Spirit, we experience a dis‐ease.  We become fragmented.

On Monday 16th April (first day of Term 2) all Year 8 students will be able to receive their new laptop as part of Loreto College’s student laptop program. This is an exciting start to a new phase of the College’s commitment to 21st century learning using the best and most contemporary aspects of digital technology.

Originally it was planned that there would be a 7pm start to this evening which would involve some information giving, signing of parent and student contracts and then laptop distribution. We have made some significant changes to the program to incorporate some initial setup of laptops and training with all of the Year 8 students that would occur during the day on Monday 16th April. We then propose to

have a ‘drop-in’ window where parents and their daughters are able to come in between 3.30pm and 6.30pm to sign contracts and to pick up the laptop and take it home. We feel that this would offer Year 8 Parents greater flexibility to come in at a time that suits them. There will be IT staff available during this time to discuss any issues associated with the rollout and the laptops’ use at school or at home. There will be significant amounts of information available to take home that will also hopefully answer any questions. There will be some written information as well as an online portal which can be re-ferred to at any stage. An outline of what will occur on Monday 16th April is below.

Student Information and Training Session (Periods 2 – 6)

Each Year 8 homeroom class will come to Room 204 for a 1 lesson introductory setup and training session. In this time students will start up and login to their laptops for the first time to ensure they are working correctly. Mr Russ Morgan (e-Learning Coordinator), Mr Gary Marsh (Network and Systems Administrator) and I will lead these sessions with the Year 8 students. We will cover the basics of student responsibilities and technical aspects of the laptops, and highlight learning opportunities that these laptops will provide. There will be the chance for students to ask questions at this time. At the completion of the lesson the students will shut down the laptops and put them in their cases ready for the distribution stage of the process later in the day.

Contract Signing and Laptop Distribution (3.30 – 6.30pm in the Mary Ward Centre)

Between 3.30pm and 6.30pm in the Mary Ward Centre, student laptop contracts can be signed and the laptops taken home. No laptops can be given out to a student who does not have a parent with them. This is a drop-in and collect process, there will be no formal information giving at a set time. There will be IT staff in attendance including myself, Mr Morgan and Mr Marsh, as well as Mr Noel Williams, the College Business Manager. There will be information provided on using the laptop in a responsible and educationally enhancing manner as well as the opportunity to ask questions. Gavin Swanson - Deputy Principal - ICT

_|uÜtÜç axãá Somerset College Celebration of Literature

I love it when teenagers “get high” on reading. Somerset’s authors inspired all! Keeley Miller and Nadia Tosoni were thrilled when Claudia Gray, a New York author, gave them TShirts for asking great questions. In telling of her book about Elizabeth 1, Just a Girl, Jane Caro (PR career and The Gruen Transfer) also urged girls not to be stopped by glass ceilings that may operate in their careers. Everyone loved Cath Crowley for her funny, honest, lovable account of writing Graffiti Moon. Scott Westerfeld described his catalyst for writing - taking a situation and asking “What if….everyone had to have plastic surgery and look perfect?” The girls were on a “high” about authors for the entire day. Girls are reminded that if they are travelling away from Loreto, they are to change into their playing uniform at lunchtime and report to the MWC at 3.05pm. If parents intend to collect their daughter from the ‘away’ venue, a note must be given to Mrs Gore by morning tea on match day. All buses aim to return to Loreto between 5.30-5.45pm, depending on traffic. We wish all teams the best of luck. Spectators are most welcome, we’d love to see you there! If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact me. Kirsty Gore – Volleyball Coordinator Round 5 Results: Open A The Open A volleyball team suffered a disappointing but close loss last week against Lourdes Hill College. The three set loss went down to the wire. There were a number of stand out performances particularly from Isabelle Mowen who played an excellent all round game. Good luck for the remaining matches. Open C The Open C team successfully outplayed St Rita’s in another three set victory on Wednesday afternoon. After disrupted preparations in recent weeks due to musical commitments the girls were able to field all ten players. During the game the girls’ focus wained and they lost the second set, however as a team they regathered their attention and easily took out the third set. Junior A This week the girls found their grove at the start of the game by dominating the first two sets. The girls all had a brilliant game, and are looking forward to the next couple of weeks ahead. Special mention to Abby Raison, who showed great sportsmanship and has improved her whole game level! Keep up the great attitude girls, let’s have a fabulous last couple of weeks! Junior B - No game - washed out. Junior D The girls had an excellent win, with a 3 - 0 victory over Brigidine College. A solid team effort with a much improved display of passing and setting which gave the girls the comfortable win. A real team effort this week, with a special mention to Grace O’Shea who did three spikes to win three points, a real highlight. Junior E Another 2 sets to 1 victory for this team, who are growing stronger every week. Our solid serving is continuing to be key in our wins. Jo Lin Chiang's serving improved over the course of the game, due to her persistence, and that, coupled with her great support play, revealed increased confidence in her ability. Let's hope for more three hit volleyball next week! Junior F This was the 5th Round of volleyball for the Loreto girls and again they played an amazing match winning against St Rita's 2 sets to 1. The girls were again nervous about playing with not much time to warm up however, after playing brilliantly in the first set, their nerves died down. Although the St Rita's girls came back on track in the second set, Loreto fought back winning the last set. Special mention must go to Christina Stephanos for thinking quickly on her feet and for her terrific passing and setting throughout the game. Keep playing as well as you are girls!

Preparation prior to exams

Double check with your teachers the areas that will be covered on the exam

Progressive revision in the time prior to the exam is the key

If in doubt about something, go and ask your teacher

Imagine yourself as the test writer and try to identify areas that will be tested.

Work with someone else for question and answer sessions

Look after your health - eat well, get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly.

Attendance

You are only required at school for your scheduled block exam

Rolls will be marked outside the scheduled rooms before the exam except for ET students who go to 407 (March 23rd and 26th) or 511/513 ( March 27th - 29th ).

Once students have arrived at school for an exam or for study or for seeing a teacher they MUST NOT LEAVE THE SCHOOL GROUNDS until their final exam for the day is over.

You may not leave the school grounds to get food, coffee etc. When you leave you are to go home.

Remember the reasons you are given an exam block. The time off from normal timetabled lessons is designed to be an advantage for your study – use the time wisely.

If you finish early, you cannot leave the exam.

Uniform

Perfect school uniform is required for every exam. You must wear your hat to and from school. Nail polish and jewellery rules are the same as for any other day

Bags cannot be taken in for the exam – all bags will be left outside the exam room

Timing

Be at school in plenty of time to get organized before exam assembly time on timetable

Carefully check the start time of each exam and the exam’s duration

Except for extra time students, and unless otherwise indicated, assemble on the paths outside the MWC or Mulwith for morning block exams 10 minutes before the written assembly time of 8.30 in the mornings and 12.45 for afternoon sessions.

You will need to line up in alphabetical order in your subject class groups to have the rolls marked

Extra time students need to assemble outside the Extra Time Room 10 minutes before the scheduled times of 8.30 and 12.30. Rolls will be marked in the exam room. If you are late, you lose your extra time.

Behaviour

The only communication allowed in the exam room is by putting your hand up and waiting for a supervisor to come to you – do not ask to borrow anything from someone near and do not get out of your seat

If you need to go to the toilet, you must put your hand up and wait for a supervisor to come to you to get permission

Mobile phones must be switched OFF and left in your bags outside the exam rooms. If a mobile phone goes off in your exam, it can be taken as cheating.

Behaviour on the way home from exams is judged heavily by the community. Go straight home to study!
