There’s no doubt that Meryl Streep’s performance in DOUBT was deserving of an Oscar for best actress. Streep was able to create a multidimensional character in

this 2008 film about corruption in a Catholic Church. A close second in

this category would be The Reader’s Kate Winslet.

BEST ACTRESS

With an intense look at the rough life of a young boy growing up on the streets of India and becoming a millionaire through a TV game show, Slumdog Millionaire was an all around incredible film, from cinematography to acting to music and directing.

BEST PICTURE

SUPPORTING ACTORThis category was really no competition this year as no else could possibly compete with Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight. Ledger not only became the classic Batman villain, The Joker, but also created great depth in the characteristics of the Joker.

Movies that feature flashbacks of historical footage are presented with the issue of inserting the historical footage into the film without making the film confusing of choppy. In Gus Van Sant’s Milk, however, this was not an issue at all. The transitions were seamless, overall this film was an organizational masterpiece.

BEST DIRECTING

BEST ACTORIn the movie Milk, actor Sean Penn actually became Harvey Milk. From the changes in his tone to how he held his head or moved his body, Penn was Milk in every essence. He was able to transition naturally from in-the-closet-business man to gay hippy to politician. Penn helped provide an amazing representation of the last eight years of Harvey Milk’s life.

SUPPORTING ACTRESSAmy Adams plays the innocent young nun

caught in the middle of a battle between a priest and the principal of the school she teaches at in the movie Doubt.

Adams was able to portray the character’s inner struggle of who and what to believe

perfectly, you could read the emotions of her character on her face in every moment. She was also able to help develop the character throughout the entire film.

The Corinthian staff predicts the winners in the top categories of this years

BEST ANIMATED FILMThis movie is about an earth stuck lonely

WALL-E who meets the outer space robot EVE. Decades of being alone has made him dream of having someone, and he will go the edge of the universe to be with her. Besides

this theme, Wall-e gives a look i n t o what might be the future

of our garbage filled world if we don’t do

something about it.
