The cool southwest breezes provided guests with seaside holidays in the summertime. The Old Orchard Hotel later became Saxon Arms...Telephone: Bay Shore 2651. New York City residents came to enjoy days in the country with fishing, bathing and sailing. From 1860 to the early 1900s, these visitors who were introduced to Bay Shore on vacations at the hotels, were so charmed that they bought property and built houses here. 20 20

Built by John Pullis in 1888, on South Clinton Avenue, the Linwood Hotel accommodated 150 guests. It was destroyed by fire in 1925.
