Policy Statement
Mulberry Pre-School is committed to ensure that we deliver the highest quality education for all the
children who attend our setting and to work in partnership with parents and carers to help children to
learn and develop.
The 2 year old progress check will compliment the Healthy Child Programme health and development
review at age two which is carried out by the Health Visitor to identify and additional support the child may
require. PROVIDERS MUST HAVE THE CONSENT OF PARENTS AND/OR CARERS TO SHARE INFORMATION
DIRECTLY WITH OTHER RELEVANT PROFESSIONALS.
EYFS key themes and Commitments
Procedures
The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the standards for development, learning and care of children from
birth to age five. All early years providers are required to follow the framework from September 2012.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requires that parents and carers must be supplied with a short
written summary of their child’s development in the three prime learning and development areas of the
EYF which are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; and Communication
and Language; when the child is aged between 24-36 months. The aims of the progress check are to:
• review a child’s development in the three prime areas of the EYFS;
• ensure that parents have a clear picture of their child’s development
• enable practitioners to understand the child’s needs and plan activities to meet them in the setting
• enable parents to understand the child’s needs and, with support from practitioners and to
enhance development at home
• note areas where a child is progressing well and identify any areas where progress is less than
expected
• Describe actions the provider intends to take to address any developmental concerns (including
working with other professionals where appropriate).
• Additional support can be put into place.
All staff who have carried out a 2 year old progress check on a child should encourage parents and carers to share
the information with other relevant professionals, including their health visitor and the staff of a new provision if
the child moves.
