Pentecost + Holy Spirit Pentecost is the birthday of the Church

with the Holy Spirit empowering the Apostles to begin their work of building the Church

St. Irenaeus tells us: “Where the Church is, there also is God’s Spirit; where God’s Spirit is, there is the Church”

Therefore, it was believed from the earliest days that the Holy Spirit and the Church are inseparable

After Pentecost: What Now?

Nothing would be the same The Holy Spirit revealed the Church at

Great Commission Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the

Apostles began to live out what Jesus asked of them: “Go, therefore, and made disciples of all

nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” MT 28:19-20

Everyday Followers How did the ordinary followers who were

not Apostles live? According to Acts 2:42-47, they devoted

themselves to the teachings of the Apostles, to communal life, to the breaking of the bread, and to prayer. Everyone who believed was together and shared all things in common. They met in the temple area and broke bread in their homes.

Jewish, so they continued to live as Jews with a life centered on the Temple

Therefore, these early followers became known as followers of the Way
