In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to identify and make generalizations (a broad statement based on several examples). Students will also continue to learn and strengthen their vocabulary and grade level sight work skills. 5th Grade Literacy - Welcome Back!!! In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to determine the main idea and identify key details throughout a passage or story. Friday, January 10 th – Last Day of 4 th grade Swimming Lessons Monday, January 20 th - Martin Luther King Jr Day: No School 2nd Grade Math - My 2nd graders will be learning different multiplication and division strategies. They will also be solving real- world problems using multiplication and division. Thank you for working with your child on memorizing multiplication facts through 5. 3rd Grade Math - My third grade math class will be using related multiplication facts to divide. They will learn to divide a 1-digit number or a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number with or without a remainder. 2nd Grade Social Studies - The 2nd grade class will be studying about the Civil War and the events that led up to this war. 3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd graders will finish their study of the colonization of early America. 4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be studying 2 nd Grade Literacy I can develop oral vocabulary. I can compare and contrast to tell how parts of a story are alike and different. I can infer by using clues from the story and background knowledge. 3 rd Grade Literacy I can develop oral vocabulary. Language Arts - In language, we will continue to work on informational writing and giving a response to others informational writing. This prepares us for our passage based writing that is required for K-Prep testing. Reflection is very important to the writing process and will continue to be a priority as well.

Math - This week we will be reviewing what we have learned so far in math this year and begin a unit on fractions. Please continue to practice multiplication and division facts!Science: Welcome back! I hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas break! This week in science we will be learning about changes in our earth (fast and slow changes). •

Writer's WorkshopHappy New Year! Welcome back! We are excited to begin another writing unit. This week begins our informative essay unit. We will be spending 3 weeks learning how to write an informative essay. We

can't wait to get our pencils moving.
