ARCHITECTUREService Provider, Federal and Local Government, Banking, Education, Military and Intelligence, and Enterprise networks transport different types of traffic, on different types of equipment, in different combinations. Canoga Perkins understands the diverse and complex nature of these networks. We also understand that our customers have a few things in common - they all need to: • Maximize Circuit Availability • Minimize Installation Time and Complexity• Minimize Operations and Training Costs

and, in the case of Service Providers:

• Maximize Profitability

Our Universal Chassis System (UCS) was developed to simplify your world and meet your goals with a single Management System for Multiple Communications Transport Technologies. With Canoga Perkins - whether your network requires Fiber Optic Modems, Optical Ethernet, Metro Ethernet and/or CWDM Multiplexing - these technologies all play together in the same chassis family with a common management system. Customers of all sizes deploy the UCS, worldwide. Their networks include UCS products ranging from a single model, to every technology available in the system.

Modularity is fundamental to the system, in both form and function. Each of our hot swappable, technology modules mounts in a choice of chassis and standalone enclosures, and everything is managed from the same, consistent interface. Once one becomes familiar with one model and technology, similar functions have the same look and feel on all other UCS products.

The UCS Management Architecture defines the system - creating a flexible, scalable, interoperable, reliable solution that is intuitive and easy to deploy, operate and maintain. Rather than a complex CLI, the UCS employs a comprehensive, easily navigated menu-driven management interface. This greatly reduces training requirements, with most people only needing a basic walk through. CanogaView SEM’s GUI interface allows even occasional users to perform like system experts.

For Metro Ethernet Services, SLA compliance is reported using Performance Measuring (PM) and Service Availability Monitoring options on NIDs. CanogaView’s Performance Collection System Application collects PM and SAM results, consolidates them into reports, and forwards reports or raw data to customer management systems.

Canoga Perkins’ SideBand Management Channel, SNMP, menu-driven Console Port and Telnet interfaces CanogaView with the PM, SAM and PCS applications; presents the user a common “look and feel” to all UCS products, and provides an easy-to-use, effective system. All of this translates to a “Best of Breed” system with the adaptability to fit to your specific networking needs.

CanogaView SEMSmart Element ManagerCanogaView Smart Element Manager is an easy to use, intuitive graphical interface to UCS management structure. Its web based user interface reduces remote client station requirements to a simple web browser. It is also the platform for SLA applications, inventory management and NBIs connectivity to higher level management systems.

SLA for Ethernet NetworksPerformance Manager (PM)Tracking the “User Experience” Demarc to Demarc is simplified with PM running on your 9145’s. PM measures key network performance metrics on a per EVC end-to-end basis. Unique Test Profiles for each EVC allow you to tailor the test frequency, duration, and intensity to optimize reporting for your network ad customer situation.

Service Availability Monitoring (SAM)While PM reports on quality of EVCs, SAM reports EVC connectivity. SAM reports availability and frame loss ratios according to user configurable parameters. One-way availability is reported when the device at the far end has SAM software, or two-way availability for non-SAM compatible devices. SAM is capable of reporting availability not only on EVC, but also to other network resources and hosts.

Performance Collection System (PCS)PCS is a CanogaView application that collects performance and availability results. Results are compiled into reports for viewing in CanogaView or uploading to higher level Network Management and Customer Management systems.

HARDENED ETHERNETEthernet has become the connectivity technology of choice. It’s no longer just a LAN for connecting Terminals to Mainframe Computers, or PCs to each other and servers. Ethernet’s reach has expanded into environments and situations that regular office equipment would never venture into.

Construction sites, gas stations, street corner traffic light control pedestals, along highways, cell towers, electrical switching yards, pipeline pump and control valve stations, the back of Humvees in the middle of the forest or desert - these are all locations where Ethernet is now connecting systems and people to the outside world.

These are harsh, uncontrolled environments where equipment needs to be tough enough to exceed the performance required in normal office placement. Ethernet products placed into these environments have to resist a wide temperature range, the damaging effects of airborne contaminants, dust and even insects.

For both service providers of Metro Ethernet Services, or operators of industrial, utility, government/military or other networks in unkind environments, Canoga Perkins has Hardened Ethernet products for your situation and demands.

CWDMWAVE DIVISION MULTIPLEXING SYSTEM

Canoga Perkins’ CWDM Multiplexing System leverages existing fiber facilities by creating virtual fiber pairs - without the costs and time associated with actually running additional fiber. Our CWDM Multiplexers create a “fiber bundle” within a fiber, providing up to nine virtual fibers. OADM Modules provide access to a virtual fiber (wavelength) allowing you to drop and insert a channel along the way, giving the system great deployment flexibility.

The Multiplexer creates these virtual fibers by placing each circuit into a different independent wavelength (color of light) and sending all of these wavelengths/colors on a single fiber, at the same time. At the distant end, these different wavelengths/colors are separated back into individual fibers.

By separating the passive multiplexing functions (which combine and separate wavelengths) from the active devices that generate those wavelengths, the Canoga Perkins CWDM system increases deployment flexibility without the limitations of typical active CWDM systems. Transponders are only needed when the end device does not directly support CWDM wavelengths - and most Canoga Perkins’ products are available with CWDM optics built in. You deploy system modules when, and where, you need them. Multiplexing Modules can be co-located, or remotely located, from Transponders and other CWDM equipped devices. This simplifies the network by decreasing the number of active and passive components in the system, thereby increasing service availability, simplifying trouble isolation, and increasing overall customer/user satisfaction.

18

The Canoga Perkins’ CWDM system is a platform consisting of four types of devices:

• 4 to 9 Channel Terminating Multiplexers• Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers• Protocol Transparent, Speed-Agile Transponders• Modems and Ethernet Products with CWDM Optics

A Wideband 1310nm channel is available on our multiplexers, allowing you to transparently piggyback new applications and circuits on existing 1310nm fiber connections - saving you from having to “find” new fiber.

Canoga Perkins’ CWDM Multiplexing System has the management tools needed by operations and maintenance personnel for rapid system deployment, comprehensive system status and quick problem diagnoses. It is a cost-effective means of multiplying existing fiber facilities.

60044-Port CWDM MultiplexerCombines and separates up to 4 ITU-T G.694 CWDM wavelengths. Available with 1310nm wideband port - giving you 5 channels. This managed, low insertion loss multiplexer is transparent to protocol and signal type, supporting digital and analog optical signals. This passive multiplexer does not require power to function and can therefore be placed almost anywhere.

OADMAdd/Drop MultiplexerInserts and extracts (Add/Drop) a single channel (wavelength) from the composite CWDM trunk. Two versions of the OADM are available - one Add/Drops in both directions, allowing the mid-point location connectivity with both upstream and downstream locations (Add/Drop). The other version Add/Drops in one direction only, providing connectivity with only upstream locations (Drop & Continue). This passive multiplexer does not require power to function and can therefore be placed almost anywhere.

60088-Port CWDM MultiplexerCombines and separates up to 8 ITU-T G.694 CWDM wavelengths. Available with 1310nm wideband port - giving you 9 channels. This managed low insertion loss multiplexer is transparent to protocol and signal type, supporting digital and analog optical signals. This passive multiplexer does not require power to function and can therefore be placed almost anywhere.

67032.5Gbps CWDM TransponderRate agile, protocol transparent, CWDM Transponder, supporting data rates from 100Mbps to 2.5Gbps. Advanced features include Clock Recovery (3R operation), SpeedCop® Bandwidth Monitor, SFP Local and Remote Optics, and Bi-directional Loopback Diagnostics. SFP Optics allow configuration for the local interface and CWDM wavelength required. Mid-span repeater operation for reach extension and wavelength conversion is achieved by placing CWDM SFPs in both the local and remote ports. With 16 preprogrammed and 8 user-programmable protocols and speeds, the 6703’s advanced multi-rate clock recovery automatically detects the data rate to support a variety of applications and ensure high performance on even the longest links.

The IBM TotalStorage Proven program is designed to help customers identify storage solutions that have been pre-qualified for interoperability with IBM TotalStorage products. Canoga Perkins’ CWDM products were tested at IBM Labs and qualified at

the Comprehensive Testing Level.

Canoga Perkins is one of a few North American companies of our type that has achieved TL9000 Registration. We earned TL9000 Certification November 2006. TL9000 incorporates all of the general ISO 9001:2000 requirements and then goes well beyond it, incorporating the latest quality system requirements that apply specifically to telecommunications suppliers. Unlike most companies that report major changes to their companies’ procedures and policies, Canoga Perkins’ commitment to quality

and the concepts of ISO 9001 needed only to revise our policies and add additional reporting to achieve TL9000 certification.

NEBS certified products bring a great deal of extra value to customers. NEBS strict requirements ensure high quality and reliability is designed into the equipment. NEBS Certification results in better-built, safer equipment. Network Equipment Building Standard (NEBS) was developed by Bell Labs as an equipment standard for Telephone Companies. As an understanding of the benefits of NEBS spread to non-RBOC organizations, it became embraced and adopted by military, government and public agencies, and commercial enterprises worldwide. NEB’s value to the non-service provider is better equipment that ensures higher circuit availability, reduced outage time, and reduced operating costs. Greater equipment safety protects personnel from

personal injury and facilities from damage - and reduces liability in cases of accidents or Acts of God.

Please visit www.canoga.com for more information on NEBS.

The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) is a global industry alliance, comprising more than 155 Service Providers and Manufacturers, to accelerate the worldwide adoption of Carrier-class Ethernet networks and services. Canoga Perkins is an active participant

of the forum. Our Metro Ethernet products have the MEF 9 and MEF 14 Certifications you need for your network.

Additional information on the MEF is available at www.metroethernetforum.org.
