Fluency/Phonics Vocab/Writing Informational Text

A Fluency rf4This week we are looking for silent

consonants in our words to help increase our fluency as readers. Your job? Read the passage at least three times using the fluency tic tac toe board. Then hunt for as

many silent consonant words you can find!

b VocabularyUsing the provided or notebook

paper, write a matching synonym, definition, and sentence for each of the following vocabulary words.

• Albumen• Fertilize• Yolk• Down

c Reading RI2Authors rely on illustrations to add

details to the text. Choose an informational book. Before you read each page, look at each picture and think, "what might THIS be teaching me?"

Use a post it note or Page C to write inside the thought bubble what the picture might be teaching you. THEN read the page. Use the information from the picture and

words to tell someone what you learned. Finish reading the book following the same process.

d Alliteration rl4April is Poetry Month! One special

skill poets can use is alliteration. Alliteration is when two or more

nearby words have the same beginning sound such as Monkeys make major messes or Pete the

template or notebook paper to brainstorm words for a possible

animal alliteration poem of your own! Write the poem and illustrate your very own tongue twister using

alliteration!

e Cinquain PoetryA Cinquain Poem is a 5-line poem

that follows a pattern. These poems should convey a mood or emotion

about the topic. Look at the pattern and then write your own cinquain poem about chickens, or any other

noun. A template is provided, but you may write your poem on your

own paper.

F Add it!

Using a non-fiction text. (1) Read the text (2)Discuss what other information do you wish was in the book? What questions do you still have after reading? (3) Research the answer to one of those questions and write a short paragraph to add to the book.

Addition

A Subtraction Review NBT.5

ReviewComplete the following subtraction equations. Check your answers by using the inverse operation

(addition).1) 823 –714 =2) 614 – 522 =3) 824 –708 =4) 317 – 109 =

5) 981 –369 =6) 518 – 209 =

b Repeated Addition OA.4An array can represent a repeated addition sentence by adding up the number of objects in each row or in

each column. Practice by using the provided memory game or make

your own! To play, cut out each card and flip them over so the array and addition sentence are

face down. Flip one card over at a time to find the match. Play alone

or with a partner.

c Equal Groups OA.4-Get 30 pieces of your favorite small snack.-Put the 30 pieces into 5 even

groups and then 3 even groups. How many are in each group? (For example: If I had 15 goldfish, and I wanted to create 3 groups. I would have 5 goldfish in each group.)

-Record the repeated sentence that matches your model-Now share the snack by putting it into 2 equal groups. How many do you each get?

--Record the repeated sentence that matches your model

-Eat and enjoy 😊

d Arrays 2.G.2Draw 4 rectangles.Partition into the following:1) 5 rows and 2 columns

2) 3 rows and 7 columns3) 6 rows and 2 columns4) 8 rows and 4 columnsYou can use the graph sheet, or counters.

After completing each problem, write down how many squares in

all. Remember that for it to be an array, it should be partitioned into equal squares.

E Repeated Addition OA4

An array is a way to organize objects to make easier to count them. Arrays can be helpful in solving word problems also. On a

piece of paper, create a matching array to represent each word

problem. Write the repeated addition sentence and solve.

F Equal Groups OA.4- Find 20 items in your house, for example: small toys or coins.

-Create two equal groups, four equal groups, and five equal groups.

How many were in each group? --Record the repeated sentence that matches your models.

(For example: If I had 15 toy cars, and I wanted to create 3 groups. I would have 5 cars in each group, so 5+5+5=15)

2.2 Advanced MathFluency/Review AREA Cubes/patterns

A Input/OutputTables OA.9

Create a poster or use sheets provided to make 4 input/output tables. Remember to include your rule of each table.

b Area MD.5Design a Carnival Today you are going to design your own carnival! However, there are some requirements you must follow. Be sure to pay careful attention to

the area of each of the carnival. You may add your own details and decorations after you add the buildings. Be sure to label everything.

c. Cubes OA.9Solve the story problems for C. on provided paper or on loose leaf paper. Remember to use the CUBES strategy when solving multi- step problems.

d. Fluency

How many ways can you make these products? Produce as many possible ways to make the following products. Can you find them all?

E Distributive Property to find area –MD&

The distributive property is when you break apart a large array into 2 smaller arrays, so it is easier to multiply.Complete the attached worksheet to find the area using the distributive property.

F Patterns OA.9Use the addition table for activity F to help you answer the following questions.

When I add an even + even number, the sum is even or odd? When I add an even + odd number, the sum is even or odd? When I add an odd + odd number, the sum is even or odd?

3.1 Accelerated MathFluency/Review Fractions Greater Than 1 Comparing All Fraction

Types

A Fluency OA1Set a timer for 3 minutes and see how many facts you can identify correctly! If you run out of time draw a line, but continue on. Check using the provided answer key.

b Whole #s as Fractions NF.3 C

What happens when I have multiple whole shapes, but I want to write them

as fractions? The numerator always tells us how many of the set we are talking about and the denominator tells us out of how many partitioned pieces. In the case of whole numbers, we are

keeping it as one piece! Therefore if I have 5 wholes I can write this as

c Comparing Fractions NF3

We will practice comparing fractions with a dice game!

1. Roll two dice and add them together. That will be your denominator for the first fraction.2.Roll two dice and again and add them together. That will be your denominator for your second fraction.3. Roll two dice again and place the smallest number as the numerator.4. Compare using <, >, =

d Equivalent Fractions NF3

Using what you learned about equivalent fractions, complete

the word problems on a piece of paper using models and explaining your reasoning.

e fractions Greater Than 1 NF.3. C

What happens when we have whole objects that have been partitioned into

fractions AND we have more than one? We're going to have what's called an improper fraction. Remember… the denominator tells us what our shapes are partitioned into and the numerator

tells us the total number of pieces there are. For example, if I have three whole circles, but they're partitioned into eighths, I have a total of 24/8. Can you identify the improper fraction and

challenge yourself to model it when given the fraction?

F Comparing Fractions NF3

Can you make it through the maze using your fraction comparison

skills? Work your way through the maze by answering each box correctly. Use models to help visualize each problem.

1. How would I write the fractions for each

of these shapes?2. Draw a model to represent 6/1 , 8/1 , &

10/1
