WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING?1. Type in a NOTES page

Open a word document on your computer. Save the document to the temporary storage drive

AND your flash drive. (You can also save it to your student account. Why so many places?

Just to make sure you still have a working copy)

Copy and paste the URL of reliable websites you found helpful as you work. You can also copy

and paste information or pictures you find (make sure you clearly label which website the info or

pictures came from

2. Create a list of science concepts and vocabulary words you need to know.

After you list words and science concepts you need to know, you need to research them. Find

a definition and put it in YOUR own words! (Copy the URL for the website so you remember

where it came from)

3. Answer your question.

Look back at your original question. Put the info from 1& 2 together to answer your question.

4. Create a presentation to show the info you found.

Make sure the info is in YOUR OWN WORDS, not the info you copied and pasted in the

document.

HOW DO I RESEARCH??

1. Begin by thinking about keywords in your research question.

• For example: How does the ocean provide nutrients for a variety of species?

• Keywords: ocean, nutrients, species

• Type keywords into an internet search engine, like google, bing, etc.

2. Here’s a couple tips from http://www.lifehack.org/articles/communication/advice-for-students-10-steps-toward-better-research.html

“Start, don’t end, with Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a great place to start your research — spend some time

searching for keywords related to your topic, browsing the links you find on each page, and following their

suggested resources. Take notes, especially of any good sources they recommend. The goal here is to get a

good overview of the subject you’re writing about, and Wikipedia is far better for that than most print

sources, because of its hyperlinked nature”

“Deal with one piece at a time. Don’t try to tackle your subject all at once. Get enough of a sense of the topic

that you can create an outline of the things you need to understand, and then deal with each piece on its own.”

3.
