About the Workshop
The workshop introduces the chemical product design and the important proc-ess design issues related to their development. It will highlight the phases in
product and process development; the relationships between product attrib-utes, ingredients and product microstructure as well as the view from economi-
cal perspective. The latest available methods and tools will be introduced to solve various types of cases associated with product-process design in a systematic
manner.
2-Day Workshop on
Describe chemical product design and identify the key issues related to product and process development.
Define the needs of a chemical product; identify the candidate chemicals and/or mixtures of chemicals and quickly evaluate the important process design issues.
Apply state-of-the-art methods on product design and development in a systematic manner.
Design novel and sustainable chemical products and processes and be among the first to commercialise it.
Date : 9 - 10 Dec 2015 Time : 0830 - 1700 Venue : Computer Room, N11a, UTM Johor Bahru

Dr Nor Alafiza Yunus is a senior lecturer at Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and a member of Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT), UTM. She received a BSc and MEng in Chemical Engineering from UTM and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Technical University of Denmark. Alafiza currently works on the design of tailor-made chemical products from various sources including bio-based. Her research interests include chemical product design using computer-aided tools and model-based approach, chemical property estimation and product and process modeling, and optimization. Sawitree Kalakul is a PhD student at the Department of Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, the Technical University of Denmark. She received her MSc-degree from the Petroleum and Polymer College, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. Sawitree is working under the supervision of Prof. Rafiqul Gani for her PhD-project. Her main research interests are modelling, property estimation and product design, focusing on developing product design and evaluation tools. As part of her PhD-project, she is developing the chemical product design simulator, VPPD-Lab.
Rafiqul Gani is professor of systems design at the Department of Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, The Technical University of Denmark and the former head and co-founder of the Computer Aided Process Engineering Center (CAPEC). His current research interests include development of computer aided methods and tools for modelling, property estimation, process-product synthesis & design, and process-tools integration. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed journal-proceedings articles and delivered over 300 lectures, seminars and plenary/keynote lectures at international conferences, institutions and companies all over the world. Professor Gani is editor-in-chief of the Computers and Chemical Engineering journal, editor for the Elsevier CACE book series and serves in the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Process Systems Engineering and Current Opinion in Chemical Engineering. Professor Gani has been awarded two Doctor Honoris Causa degrees from University
Politehnica Bucharest and University of Pannonia. Professor Gani is the president of the EFCE (European Federation of Chemical Engineering), elected for term 2014-2016; a Fellow of the AIChE and also a Fellow of IChemE.
