5. “Industrial Opportunities for Electronics and Computer Science students

13th August 2015

Speaker: Prof. Dr. P. N. Vasambekar, Head, Dept of Electronics, Shivaji University, Kolhapur

Department of Electronics and Computer Science have organized a lecture of Dr. P. N. Vasambekar on “Industrial Opportunities for Electronics and Computer Science students” under Golden Jubilee Lecture Series on 13th August 2015. Mr. J. A. Wagh, Head, Department of Electronics introduced the guest and speaker.

In his speech Dr. Vasambekar told students that Electronics and Computer Science is one of the old and the best course in the field of science and engineering. He provided Career Guidance, Choices, Career development strategies, Job Opportunities, Salary and Skills Required in the field of Electronics and Computer for B. Sc. Electronics , BCS and B. Sc. Computer Science students to make a successful career.

It is not possible for a person to become an expert in all the fields. So, one should choose one or two areas of interest from the list of sub fields of the main stream, which is close to students heart. Also, to keep students updated about latest technologies and inventions in this domain, they must go through IEEE articles and Journals. Nowadays, a lot of students after completing Electronics and Computer Science course, opt for IT Jobs. Recent recession had a big impact on the type of careers we choose. It is wise to go for a career that can withstand market conditions like recession, rather than going for a career change at a later stage of your career. That doesn't mean that, we need to choose a career which we are not passionate about. So when you make a career choice, the choice should be interesting and reliable.

India is emerging as a world class VLSI/Embedded systems hub. Electronics and Computer Science students of a high caliber can find jobs with entry level packages of Rs. 3.5 – Rs. 4.0 lakhs per annum with added specialization with large number of Multinational Corporations operating in India. A large number of electronics and communication engineers can get jobs in government organizations like MTNL, BSNL, Civil Aviation, NPL, AIR, Posts and Telegraph Department, Railways, Bharat Electronics Limited and DRDO, among many others. In the Defense services, young engineers start as Second Lieutenants. For selection into the Defense Services – Indian Army, Indian Air force and the Indian Navy, applications are invited through National Dailies.

Overall 270 Students from B. Sc., BCS and B. Sc. Computer Science have taken the benefit of the program. 20 faculties were present for the function and program is concluded by Mr. S. K. Shinde.
