“Lean Production” is the entire ran-ge of concepts, systems, and tech-niques that aims to perfect the va-

lue presented by clarifying and simplifying the process of creating products and services from wastes and to improve the profitability of a firm accordingly. In view of this understanding, was-te, beyond its known meaning, is everything that does not create value for the customer and that the customer will not accept to pay extra price. The target is set to reduce costs, increa-se customer satisfaction, and gain the adapta-tion to market conditions and flexibility by me-ans of eliminating all kinds of waste (defects, overproduction, stocks, delays, unnecessary works, unnecessary actions, and unnecessary transportation) at the stage of creating pro-ducts/services, ranging from design to ship-ment. The Standard Profile Production System (SPPS) designed through the lean production logic is a production philosophy aiming to cre-ate a safe, effective, and efficient working envi-ronment and, at the same time, to perform pro-duction in the correct amount, right quality, and right time and provide an internalized culture of constant improvement. SPPS that started to be implemented in February 2016 presents the op-portunity through the designated tools, such as 5S and BiQ, to evaluate the processes in our plants, determine the development areas, and provide continuous improvement. SPPS whose target is to ensure that production is conducted

in equal standards in all Standard Profile Group plants is divided into two groups referred to as, “Continuous Improvement” and “Lean. “

SPPS rePreSentatIveS for each Plant have been determInedDetermination of the “Continuous Development Coordinators” and “Head-Coaches” (Consul-tants) has been started in all our plants for the best implementation of SPPS tools. The Conti-nuous Development Coordinators will be wor-king to ensure the implementation of the SPPS

tools in their units and our Head Coaches assig-ned to each SPPS tool will act as consultants for the convenient implementation of the respecti-ve SPPS tool in their own plant. Trainings in res-pect of all the tools are ongoing at full speed as provided by the SPPS team for the expansion of SPPS in all our plants. Thanks to the trainings provided over 3500 SP employees by now, tra-iners are at the same time trained in respect of each tool in each plant. Audits were conducted in the Manisa 1, Mani-sa 2, Düzce, Bulgaria, and China plants, which

were chosen as the SPPS pilot plants in 2016, and the levels of our plants were observed. Within the scope of our project that will be expanded to the all the plants in 2017, audits and assessments will be performed throughout the year. Through the scores that will be received as a result of LPA (Lean Plant Assessment) “Best Plants of SP” will be determined at the end of the year.

KaIZen commIttee Kaizen, one of the SPPS tools, is a concept con-noting the provision of multiple numbers of fast developments but slowly in terms of process, employee, time, and technology, and reduction in costs. We attach importance to Kaizen pro-jects to a great extent as it covers each of our SPPS tools. The Kaizen Committees were de-termined in each plant for evaluating all Kaizen improvement projects, determining best opera-tions, and creating a corporate memory for bet-ter projects accordingly. The assignment of the committee, in which representatives from all plant units and the General Manager of the res-pective plant take part actively, is to evaluate the Kaizen projects implemented in the respec-tive month, in line with the predetermined cri-teria and to determine the best practices. Very important projects were presented at the Ka-izen Committee Meetings held on November and December through the works commenced in our pilot plants. We congratulate all employe-es who led and provided supports for the works.

Dear Friends, 2016 has been a difficult year for our world in view of economy, local wars, and political instability. We, as the Standard Profile Group, can say that despite all the discrepancies, we had a good year. We increased our sales by 7% and reduced our costs by around 5% thanks to the projects we started compared to last year. This performance returned to us in the form of an increase in our profitability and, as the direct consequence of it, a reduction in our debts. This achievement belongs to all of us. I would like to thank you all one by one for your hard and devoted works throughout the year. As you will remember, we undersigned numerous technical and social projects together throughout 2016. Such projects served for our achievements for the year and they became a very important step toward the forthcoming years. - Thanks to organizational arrangements and new industrial network, we took a huge step towards the East-West integration and had a new structure that will create synergy. - We started to use the Standard Profile Production System (SPPS) and the quality logic during production cycle (BiQ) actively. We observed successful results and remarkable improvements in our pilot plants. - We went through successful audits throughout the SP plants. In addition to the positive grades we have taken, we received documents certifying our performance from our customers such as the Ford Q1 Certificate and the Renault Logistics Prize.- In addition to our operations in the R&D Center in Düzce, we received the approval of the Ministry for the R&D Center in Manisa at the end of the year. Moreover, we received grants for four new projects of us from the Technology and Innovation Support Programs Department (TEYDEB). - As the confirmation of the fact that we have introduced the Turkish brand to the entire world, we managed to receive a very important certificate of “Turquality.” - We obtained a brand new website through your contributions, to express our company on the internet and social media better. We started to share the developments regarding our business life on social media by means of LinkedIn. - We listened to your voice, views, and suggestions with the “Voice of SP” project implemented concurrently in the entire SP Group and, thanks to it, we determined our improvement and development areas for the forthcoming years. We must continue with our constant development principle in order for 2017 to be a more successful and productive year. However, as you know, one of the most important keys for advancement and achievement is “Employee Health and Safety at Work.” As we always highlight, your greatest and most valuable resource is “human;” that is to say, you, the priceless SP employees. Let us proclaim 2017 as the “Safety at Work “ year for the entire Standard Profile Group and start the new year with the target of “zero accident at work.” We all are to undertake important tasks to achieve such target. Above all, we must protect ourselves, take care of our working ambiance, and take precautions to eliminate the risks we have encountered forthwith, as individuals. In view of our performance in the recent years, I am sure that we will quickly start acting to achieve that target and create a much better working environment. I wish 2017 we will be a new year in which you will crown your efforts with new achievements. Wishing you a beautiful year. . .

“The transition to SAP will be completed in all locations in 2017”

“One of the most significant elements of competition in the globalizing world is the

continuous self-improvement and re-newal of the companies by keeping pace with the developing technologies. In this sense, with a strong, young, and expe-rienced team, we are active 24/7 in all our locations by determining the requi-red strategies for our company to be one step ahead. We have to have a sturdy infrastructu-re and a strong ERP system to be able to provide services in certain stan-dards anywhere in the world. Internati-onal system and safety standards, tech-nological developments, and their har-mony with our company’s strategy are in the focus of our infrastructure works in all locations. We have undersigned sig-nificant achievement that set examp-les within the sector, by means of imple-menting significant projects such as the transition to the cloud systems in paral-lel with the technological developments, virtual systems that enhance our central control and operational flexibility to a lar-ge extent, and virtual workstations.

“We attaIned an unprecedented achIeveMent” Our SAP transitions will be completed in all locations upon the performance of the

transition of our South Africa and Spain plants in early 2017. The achievement at-tained is indeed matchless as it is a pro-ject that harbors highly serious risks in terms of scope and locations of utiliza-tion. Behind it are the very serious labor and support of the entire company and our team. With the prize it has granted in the training category, SAP Turkey crow-ned our superior achievement in the pro-cess of “Workforce Performance Buil-der,” the product for the creation of trai-ning documents we use in the expansion process of the locations.

“We have establIshed Our dIsaster recovery center In BulgarIa” Ensuring the continuity of operations, prevention of data loss, and operab-

le condition of critical systems against unexpected events in the current work environment is very important. The fact that we are operating in different geog-raphies brings along the reality of nume-rous setbacks like regional political and social problems, and natural disasters. In order to avoid such risks, we have es-tablished our disaster recovery center, which we had designed as the backup of our critical systems, in Bulgaria. We are ensuring through the regular disaster recovery tests that the system is main-tained readily whenever it is needed. Growing digitalization in every field brings along some certain security vul-nerabilities and risks. We always prioriti-ze technological investments to prevent such vulnerabilities. Nevertheless, the measures taken systematically are un-fortunately not solely sufficient; all our employees must have sufficient know-ledge about information security. We received our ISO 27001 Information Se-curity and Management Certificate last year; the certification process in our Spa-nish plant has been also initiated. In con-sideration of the new technological deve-lopments that come out every day, awa-reness must be an inseparable part of our corporate culture and our daily lives so that this management system can be successful and sustainable.

FATIH KURT, STANDARD PROFILE IT DIRECTOR:

Our IT team that is active 7/24 with a strong, young, and experienced staff in all our locations is carrying out all the technological processes brought along by being a global company, through a very high level of expertise. Fatih Kurt, our Global IT Director, stated that it is necessary to have a strong infrastructure to provide technology services with the same quality all around the world and that the team has exhibited a matchless success.

suring that a world class system is utilized in all SP Eastern locati-

ons in the beginning of 2014 transited to live practice Turkey’s all locations in 2015. Subsequently, the eastern adventure of SP has come to an end through the ope-rations that continued with the plants in Bulgaria in early 2016 and the Chinese plants in October 2016, and the transition of the South African plant to live practice on January 1, 2017. Before the transition of our Chinese plant to SAP, manuals and training documents in English for all the key users and end users of SAP were prepared by evaluating the geographical distance and difficulty of working conditions. The required docu-

ments for the employees with no know-ledge of the English language were trans-lated into Chinese. This way, it was ensu-red that our colleagues in China received online training without the necessity to visit China before the live practice. This both brought cost advantage and made it

possible that the users acquired prelimi-nary knowledge for SAP before the tran-sition to live practice. The SAP FORUM or-ganized annually by SAP was held this year in Harbiye - Istanbul Congress Cen-ter on October 27, 2016. Ogün Bozok, our Global Software Manager, shared his ex-periences regarding user trainings in a SAP project at the panel held under the title of “Are your users ready for the pro-jects in the worldwide standards?” in the event. Our software team was deemed worthy of the “Best New Generation Training Pro-ject” prize by SAP. Fatih Kurt, our Global IT Director, received the award from Bah-ri Danış, the CEO of Intelligence T.R. that is our SAP solution partner.

SAP IMPLEMENTATION HAS BEEN STARTED IN OUR CHINA PLANT

OUR YOUNGEST PLANT HAS BEEN COLORED WITH OUR CHILDREN

2016 has been the year of technological leap for our plant in the province of Langfang in China and the works on SAP started in May. Transition to the SAP system was conducted because of the failure of the previous system to provide the expected support to the customer requests and the processes requested to be followed and as a result of joint business strategy of our Group. The SAP application was put in live practice after the works that lasted approximately 6 months on October 1, 2016. The Global IT team, Intelligence TR consultants, and local consultants have supported the project. The processes of purchasing, production, planning, quality, sales and all financial processes started to be followed up via SAP.

Steps that are both aesthetic and environmentally sensitive have been taken in our Mexico plant within the frame of our social responsibility project. First, the children of the employees of the Mexican plant painted the walls of our plant as they wanted. Seeing their children’s cheerful spirit on the walls made all the employees happy. Trees were also planted in our plant to reinforce environmental awareness. The plant and the surrounding area have had a wonderful appearance thanks to its green trees and colorful walls.

MANUFACTURE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR MERCEDES’ BESTSELLING MODEL Our plant in the province of Cape Town has succeeded to receive the Mercedes Class C W205 project thanks to its intensive works it performed in 2016 and the projects on synergy with other units it has established. The window canals of the project, which will start serial production in the last quarter of 2017, will be produced in our S. Africa plant. The project that will be the first high-volume business in S. Africa after VW is crucial for the continuity of the plant. Another positive aspect of the project is that it will open the doors toward new projects. As the C-class is Mercedes’

best-selling model in the world, it is also important for our Group to provide products for that vehicle. The project is also increasing

our chance of being preferred by Mercedes for the new model. Daimler audits for the project were successfully passed. As it was a local project, the South African team worked hard in the process of acquiring the project.

to technology addiction in childrenAttention

The sweetest enemy is sugarSugar that is storage of calories without nut-

ritional value takes place in our daily diet ex-cessively even if we are not aware of it. Su-

gar is a carbohydrate, so it is a food that provides energy to our body. However, carbohydrates are di-vided into two as simple and complex ones. Foods such as sugar for tea, honey, jam, white flour, swe-et, and candy contain simple sugar while the full-grain foods, bulgur, fruit and vegetables, dry legu-mes, and pulpy food contain the complex sugars. Simple sugars must not be included in a healthy diet. The body’s need for sugar, thus energy, must be fulfilled from complex carbohydrates.

DamageS of Sugar on the boDy Our bodies need energy to continue their life and they take almost all of their energy requirements from blood sugar. The body secretes a hormo-ne from the pancreas, which is referred to as in-sulin that keeps the blood sugar levels balanced. Overconsumption of sugar causes excessive in-sulin secretion. The insulin hormone puts a porti-on of sugar into cells and ensures it to be used as energy; and it stores the rest as fat. The first da-mage of sugar on our body is obesity arising from

fat formation and empty calorie intake. When food containing sugar is consumed, it is quickly diges-ted and mixed with the blood and blood sugar inc-reases rapidly. The fast increase in blood sugar ca-uses its fall at the same speed suddenly. In such case, we feel like eating another sweet thing aga-in. This vicious cycle continues as long as the fo-ods containing sugar are consumed. Sudden decli-ne in blood sugar is defined as hypoglycemia. The most common symptoms of hypoglycemia are in-tolerance to hunger, feelings of faintness, fatigue, headache, nervousness, and excessive desire to eat desserts. Today, the reason for many people to have insulin resistance, reactive hypoglycemia, and diabetes problem is wrong dietary habits and excessive sugar consumption. Moreover, overcon-sumption of sugar can lead to liver fattening, inc-rease in the blood fats (triglycerides), increase of vascular occlusion, weakening immune system,

According to expert psychologist Didem Gürbey, it is not possible for a child involved with technology at all times to develop healthily physically, mentally, and psychologically. Gurbey says, “We must remember

that what our children actually need is not the latest technology. What they really need is that we spend quality time, play games, have conversation with them, and show our love to them by hugging them. “

THE LONG TERM RESULTS THAT MIGHT BE CAUSED BY TECHNOLOGY ADDICTION

The benefits of technology are surly undeniable and it is also surely not possible for us to remove it from our lives

entirely. However, along with those benefits, we must recognize the damages that might arise from wrong or excessive use, determine the necessary boundaries, and take precautions.

Let us not forget that what our children need is not the newest, state-of-the art technological products. What they really need

is that we spend quality time with them, play games, have conversation, and show our love to them by hugging them.

Technology is altering the way children think. For example, video games condition the brain to pay attention to multiple stimuli, which is its positive side, but it may also cause distraction and memory issues.

Overuse of technology may also affect children’s mood negatively. A study performed in the UK shows that children who play computer games and use the internet more than four hours a day feel worse and unhappy compared with the ones using it less than an hour a day.

Technology might also inflict damage on children’s privacy and security. It appears that in the sexual offenses toward children, the perpetrators usually find the information about their victims from internet dating sites.

Overuse of technology might lead to less physical activity and obesity accordingly.

Not too long; 20-25 years ago, we were children playing in the parks and gardens, riding bicycles, pursuing a ball and having fun all day long. We were forcing the limits

of our imagination and physical capacity and begging our mot-hers not to come home in the evening. Today’s world is entirely different. Tablets, phones, and computers are always in the hands of children and their parents. We cannot detach from technology even in the most important social environments like dining with the family or friends. The results of the rese-arch on technology addiction conducted by the Cancer Foun-dation in the USA in 2010 are highly frightening; the children at elementary school age use technology averagely 7.5 hours a day. 75 percent of them have television in their bedroom and television is open all day at the homes of 50 percent of the American families. The children’s games are now mainly based on technology and this, unfortunately, poses damages on their creativity and imagination to a large extent. Besides, their inactivity is a major disadvan-tage for their motor and sensory development. The tech-nology developing at a very fast speed affects a child’s de-velopment negatively and inflicts physical, psychological, and behavioral disorders. The rate of obesity and diabetes in children living in Canada and the US is unfortunately very high. At the same time, attention deficit, hyperactivity impair-ment, developmental retardation, learning disability, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorder rates have also reached threa-tening dimensions upon the excessive use of technology.

l The labels of purchased foods must be read in any case. Its name may not be mentioned as ‘sugar’ but it may also be included in foods with the names such as sucrose, brown sugar, corn syrup, starch based liquid sugar, dextrose, sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol, fructose, fruit syrup, glucose, glucose syrup, and lactose. l To reduce sugar intake, do not consume packaged products in markets. l Do not use sugar in tea and coffee. Do not forget that it has calorie even if it is brown sugar. When you consume it excessively, it will make you put more weight on. l Do not drink instant and concentrated juices and drinks with gas and cola. You can prefer water, soda, ayran, and on condition that it will not be very often, freshly squeezed fruit juice. l Instead of white bread, prefer whole wheat or rye bread. l Foods with high sugar ratio also have a high salt and fat ratio and they have high level of calorie. For that reason, do not consume those foods. l Try to provide your need for desserts from dry or fresh fruit. l You can prefer milky or fruity desserts once a week instead of the heavy desserts with dough and sorbets.

WHAT MUST BE DONE TO REDUCE SUGAR CONSUMpTION?

Sugar that provides the body with energy might cause high level of damage to the body when consumed excessively. When it comes to health, sugar must be taken from whole-grain foods, bulgur, fruit and vegetables, dry legumes, and dried foods. Dietician Müge Özyurt has mentioned the damages of sugar.
