ABOUTThe relevance of this year’s theme: CREATE IMPACT – lead with authentic communication, cannot be

disputed. Daily, an ever-increasing amount of information spouts into our interconnected world with a significant

percentage of this information being false. Audiences today have the task of filtering information to decipher the

authenticity, thus corporate communicators need to adapt to this constantly evolving environment to ensure their

communication efforts generate the desired impact…

This year’s IABC Africa Master Class will see local and regional communicators sharing impactful ways to support

corporate communicators in identifying future-fit skills for an evolving profession.

It will take place on Thursday, 2 and Friday, 3 November at The Vineyard Hotel, Newlands,

Cape Town.

Arriving early?

Please join us for an opportunity to get to know your

peers over cocktails and snacks.

Wednesday,1 November

18:15 – 20:30

Please note this event is strictly by RSVP only

and proudly sponsored by Gautrain.

RESEARCH: EDELMAN TRUST BAROMETER Edelman’s 2017 Trust Barometer, the firm’s 17th annual trust and credibility

survey, revealed that trust in crisis around the world. With trust declining in

South Africa across government, media and business, the fear of corruption,

immigration and the erosion of social values is having a significant impact on

the way South Africans perceive the world around them. After unpacking the

data, Rittenberry will address where opportunities exist to regain trust

among sceptics, how communications can navigate the changing trust

landscape and how business is primed to lead in this new reality.

PRESENTATIONCorporate Voice (CLA)

In the fast-paced digital world in which we live and work, the volume of

information we are exposed to each day is significantly more than our

previous generations. The volume has reached a point where it is becoming

impossible to effectively notice, process and act on most of the information

directed at us each day.

In order to ensure an effective engagement in this highly populated space,

communications require IMPACT to allow them to stand out. Innovative

technology platforms such as CLA provide this capability, making them

leaders in Impactful Corporate Communication platforms.

WHAT TO EXPECT *more to be announced shortly

KEYNOTE

Harnessing female leadership by treating communications as a strategic

discipline

A look at strategic communications and how, if treated as a business

imperative, it can help a business mitigate risks, develop its reputation and

limit negative brand impact. However, this strategic discipline can be

harnessed better by female leaders purely because of their genetic make-up.

PRESENTATIONGlobal capabilities framework for Public Relations and Communication

Management

The purpose of this study is to construct a capabilities framework that can be

used by PR professional bodies and practitioners around the world, as well as

influencing academic curricula. It is funded by the University of Huddersfield

and supported by the Global Alliance for Public Relations and

Communication Management.

#EvolutionThatMatters:The world and Africa is changing at a fast pace, are we still communicating

well with our audience? Or are we slow in reaching out to them? Do we still

understand what they need?

WORKSHOPCyber Crisis – how to manage your media relations in the event of a

cyberattack?

Back by popular demand, one of the top-rated speakers from the 2016 IABC

Africa Conference, Janine Lazarus, will run a practical workshop with

delegates to prepare them for a cyberattack.

Are you ready for this? Brace yourself for a new era of crisis communication

management.

CASE STUDYChanging YOUniverses

To ensure that that Gautrain receives the desired acceptance from its

stakeholders in terms of a lifestyle change towards using public transport, its

stakeholder communication is geared towards interconnecting with them in

an authentic way. A way that is strategic, sustainable and long-term so that

they can authenticate Gautrain in their minds and hearts as a preferred mode

of public transport.

On a tactical level this is done through moving YOUniverses:

• Onto mobile and beyond

• Balancing the emotional (dialogue) with the rational (influence)

• Brand journalism = meaningful, quality storytelling

• Hyper-transparent communication

• Power of Purpose

• Be Relevant. Be Useful. Be heard.

For Gautrain, creating meaningful, authentic impact thus comes from the old,

old approach of MUTUAL understanding!
