MISSION STATEMENT

n accordance with the spirit upon which it was founded and its current bylaws, the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show is committed to the following objectives:

To promote continuing improvement in the breeding, raising and marketing of livestock and to encourage the pursuit of excellence generally throughout the livestock and agriculture industries.

To organize and administer each year a world-class Stock Show event composed of various public competitions, exhibitions and entertainment such that (1) the event enhances interest and encourages participation in the livestock and agri-business fields by recognizing and rewarding outstanding achievement in them, and (2) the event attracts as many visitors as possible from throughout the state, across the nation and around the world to Fort Worth, the city of this Stock Show’s historic origin in 1896.

To include in Stock Show activities continuing encouragement for young people to pursue careers in livestock and agri-business through programs and incentives especially tailored to their interests.

To advance education by providing learning opportunities as an ongoing part of Stock Show events, and by funding research grants and scholarship endowments at a variety of educational institutions.

To insure that the Stock Show grows and adapts to the ever-changing needs of the livestock and agri-business industries, encompassing not only cattle, horses, swine, sheep, mules, poultry, and traditional agri-business products, but other livestock and emerging agri-business technologies as well.

To utilize efficiently, maintain and periodically improve the physical facilities in which the annual event and its various activities are held to ensure that they remain in the front rank of such facilities worldwide, to ensure that they continue to serve the needs of the people and organizations using them, and to preserve their value as a major income-producing asset for the City of Fort Worth.

19. Pass and Permit Refund. No refund will be made for passes or permits mailed and not returned when cancellations are made prior to cancellation date.

20. Dogs. Service animals in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or similar Texas statues are allowed on the Stock Show grounds. Pets and dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under ADA and are not allowed on the Stock Show Grounds including Stock Show parking lots.

ADA defines service animals as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Texas statutes define an assistance animal as one that is specifically trained or equipped to help a person with a disability.

Service animals can accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the Stock Show grounds where the public is normally allowed to go. A person with a service animal may be asked to remove the service animal from the premises if: 1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it; or 2) the dog is not housebroken. Any Stock Show visitor who is asked to remove a dog or pet from the grounds will be able to participate in and enjoy Stock Show offerings without the animal’s presence.

This rule does not apply to official entries in the Texas Sheep Dog Association Trials or Stock Show specialty acts.

21. Cooking. Cooking is not allowed on the show grounds at any time other than by food concessionaires. No cookers, crock-pots, microwaves, coffee pots, warmers or other cooking utensils will be permitted.

22. Premiums. Premiums offered by the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show will be paid as soon as they can be properly processed after the close of the Show.

DAVE B. SHERRILL, JR. MEMORIAL AWARDIn July 2006, the Texas Standard-bred poultry community lost its cornerstone with the passing of Dave B. Sherrill, Jr. He was an active poultry participant, skilled breeder, judge and exhibitor, show superintendent and congenial mentor to thousands of poultry exhibitors throughout the country. Mr. Sherrill was one of a handful of men who forged the Texas poultry fancy and worked to fire the exhibition poultry engine over many decades. While Mr. Sherrill bred and enjoyed a modest variety of poultry throughout his lifetime, his special favorites were the Old English Game Bantams. In particular, he received well deserved honors and recognition for his Black Breasted Red Old English Game Bantams.

In remembrance of Dave B. Sherrill, Jr. as a dedicated friend to our poultry hobby in Texas, and in recognition for achievements with his favorite Old English Game Bantams, the following memorial award will be offered beginning with the 2007 Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show.

Champion Old English Game Bantam

W. EARL BRADFORD TRAVELING AWARDThe memorial award for CHAMPION SINGLE COMB WHITE LEGHORN BANTAM, given in honor of W. EARL BRADFORD, was first offered at the 1985 Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show. With the passing of Mr. Bradford in 1994, the existing plaque was retired, and a memorial plaque continues to be given each year in his memory.

F. ADRIAN BALLARD TRIBUTE AWARDThe passing of club member F. Adrian Ballard in June 2002 saddened the Fort Worth Bantam Club as we lost a very active and supportive friend. In remembrance of Mr. Ballard as a catalyst and diligent worker for the Fort Worth Bantam Club, and in recognition for his promotion of, and successes with the Australorp breed, the Fort Worth Bantam Club offers the following awards on the breed that he enjoyed and promoted so well.

The Fort Worth Bantam Club offers two (2) special memento plaques in remembrance of F. Adrian Ballard for the Champion Australorp, large and bantam in competition together. One plaque will be for the Champion Austalorp in the Open Show and one will be awarded for the Champion Australorp in the Youth Show.
