Connection Chair and USASF Board Member, Kathy Penree, kicks off our National Meeting by

introducing the central theme that connects all sessions. You’ll be inspired to learn, share and take All

Star to the next level!

A Leader that Matters: How to “SOAR” in your All Star Role

Whatever your vocation or aspiration, you can become an admired leader in the prevention of child

sexual abuse. For nearly a decade, Anton Gunn has been a history-making leader on national policy

issues. He has inspired and empowered thousands of grassroots leaders. He has even provided advice

and coaching to some of the most impactful leaders in America. From Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Hip Hop

group, Public Enemy, to the President of the United States, Anton will teach you the simple and

President) will headline day two of the National Meeting. The sport of All Star, in its 16 years of

organized governance, has made huge strides in structure and unification. Join our featured speakers

as they take a deeper look at the “state of the sport”, how we work together with other governance

organizations to solidify our position under the overall umbrella of Cheer and Dance and examine how

coming together as an All Star community will lead to improved safety and increased growth of the

sport.

LIFT OFF (Closing Session)

Attendees will come together to close the meeting and begin their ascent to SOAR. The focus shifts

from inspirations and aspirations to action steps and results, in the words of Henry Ford: "If everyone

is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself."

issues and challenges facing the All Star community and governance. No topic is off limits. Join your

Harsh Truths: Social Media & Athlete Protection - Being a Leader in an Interconnected World

Join Senior Regional Director, Karen Wilson, along with experts in the field of Athlete Protection as

together we discuss strategies on how online behavior can create challenges for us as leaders and

what the possible consequences are, as well as tangible actions we can take to protect the athletes

and ourselves.

We will also take a deep dive into the realities of what our athletes are being exposed to, how

significant the risks they are taking are and how we can make an impact. What are safety measures

we should have in place within our program?

COACH SESSIONS (CHOOSE 1 TO ATTEND)

Option 1: MASTERY: Coaching for Peak Performance Presented by Positive Coaching

Alliance*

*Accredited Coach In Training Course Requirement

In this workshop, attendees and our Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Trainer will engage in interactive

discussion of how coaching for "mastery" can lead athletes to peak performance. Research from the

world’s top sport psychologists and researchers, who serve on PCA’s National Advisory, will be

explored with a particular emphasis on how these ideas can be tangibly implemented by coaches. We

will explore specific challenges such as maximizing athletes' effort, combating nervousness, projecting

confidence and positivity, coaching athletes through a plateau, implementing individual goals and

helping athletes through adversity.

* This will meet the requirement for the mandatory PCA course for credentialing candidates. This workshop builds on the PCA

online course and the live courses offered at previous meetings and delivers content not previously covered in these other PCA

offerings.

OPTION 2: Leadership Lessons (for coaches who have completed PCA)

Join Mary Wendt, along with a panel of Connection Leaders, as we explore the topics of Leading with

Integrity, and discovering the leadership qualities necessary for every owner and coach at every level.

Enjoy asking questions in an intimate setting with your Connection Leaders. Bring a journal and get

ready to take notes- this will be an interactive and informative session!

EVENT PRODUCER SESSION

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!: A Partnership in Compliance

Event producers are invited to join us for a detailed training on how to ensure compliance at their

events. This session will cover all areas of event compliance, portal functionality, available tools and

resources, the event producer role in addressing issues and/or policy violations on-site at the event

and post-event violation reporting. Additional discussion topics include Athletic Performance Standards,

athlete protection and ways to create a safer environment for our athletes.

AFFILIATE MEMBER & INDUSTRY SUPPLIER SESSION

ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE STANDARDS & PROTECTION: It’s Everyone’s Responsibility!

USASF Board members and staff invite industry providers, including apparel, makeup, accessories,

music, coaches, choreography, photography, video and the media that cover the sport to come

together to continue the discussion on Athlete Performance Standards as one component of its

Athletes First initiative. Learn about the risks of sexual exploitation of All Star athletes and join us as

we collectively make the commitment to be diligent in how we portray youth so we do not put them at

risk.

RULES: THE PROCESS, NEW RULES & AGE GRID

RULES PRESENTATION: Cheer

Alison Stangle, Executive Director of Rules and Safety, will review the changes to the rules and age

grid for the 2019-2020 season as well as discussing the implementation of the Athletic Performance

Standards.

RULES PRESENTATION: Dance

Meredith Walker, Director of Rules and Safety, will review the changes to the dance age grid and rules

for the 2019-2020 season and the division and category offerings for the 2020 Dance Worlds.

Additionally, hear about how the USASF Athletic Performance Standards will be incorporated

specifically for dance teams this season.

ALTERNATE TRACK: Cheer Rules Workshop - Monday, 2:30-6:30 pm

Coaches may choose the alternate track on Monday

NOTE: Attendees who chose the Alternate Track to participate in the Cheer Rules Workshop will not

attend any of the offerings between 2:30 am and 6:30 pm on the National Meeting Schedule.

Cheer Rules Workshop Track

Join Ali Stangle, Dana Fielding and special guests as they bring the rules to life through video and live

stunt demonstrations. This is an in-depth workshop where you learn the nuances of the rules while

gaining a real understanding in a fun, interactive environment. This workshop will explain the

language, the intent behind the rules and how to prepare your athletes with skills focused on safety

through level rule progressions. This workshop is for all experience levels and includes a working

lunch. Learn the rules through the eyes of the experts and unlock your coaching potential.

CHEER WORLDS CLUB SCORING: Preview & Feedback

Join us to see the first look at the draft of Club Division Scoring for The Cheerleading Worlds® in 2020.

The session will include a review of the scoring system draft, the potential differences from The

Cheerleading Worlds® in 2019 and an opportunity for you to provide feedback that will be considered

in the final version of the system.

What Athletes are Exposed to Online & Our Role in Providing Safety Measures

Take an in depth dive into the realities of what our athletes are being exposed to, how significant the

risks they are taking are and how we can make an impact. What are safety measures we should have

in place within our program? Explore the peer-to-peer risks our athletes face both as victims and

potential perpetrators of illegal behavior. And walk away with a curriculum that you can take home and

present to parents to enlighten and educate.

DANCE WORLDS SCORING: Preview & Feedback

Come learn about and train on the 2019-2020 USASF Dance Score Sheet that is available for event

producers to use throughout the season and will be used at The Dance Worlds® in 2020 for the Senior

Divisions. The session will include an in-depth explanation of the score sheet with an opportunity for

you to ask questions and wraps up with attendees participating in the same training The Dance

Worlds®judges go through. Explore, learn and walk away with a thorough understanding of the USASF

Dance scoring philosophy.

Foundations of Coaching - Credentialing 101

The USASF has launched a new credentialing portal that extends beyond Cheer Level Credentialing.

Learn the ins-and-outs of credentialing, why it’s a good risk management decision to have credentials

and explore the new options and offerings available in the portal.

program offerings. If Dance FUNdamentals is in your future, attend this movement-based class to feel

inspired and confident about adding the new revenue source of dance into your facility. And who

Pre-Participation Exams

The overarching goal in performing a pre-participation physical evaluation (PPE) is to promote the

health and safety of the athlete in training and competition. The PPE provides the medical background

on which physical activity decisions will be made by the individual athlete’s physician.

Brain Health: Concussion Protocol & Best Practices

Concussions are a risk for any athlete but are a particular concern for those participating in

cheerleading due to the nature of the activity involving height, inversion and rotation of the body as

well as physical interaction and contact with other team members. All Star programs must have an

understanding of the causes, signs and symptoms of concussions as well as a clear and outlined

protocol for athletes who have suffered, or are suspected of having suffered a concussion. This session

will address the best practices surrounding concussions in All Star cheer and dance.

Creating an Abusive Free Culture: Everything Thrives or Dies in Culture

In this engaging workshop Detective McNeil discusses the importance of culture and how it determines

what teens and young people share with adults and their peers. When it comes to culture, “What goes

is what grows!” If abuse is allowed to exist than it will grow and become a part of the culture. In this

session we will: discover why predators target athletes; discuss how abuse affects team dynamics;

gain an understanding of how mental health can affect performance; learn how to create an abusive

free culture; and gain insight by examining common answers victims give for not sharing with adults.

legal and what is not. How do we engage the athlete and provide them the tools for success? Learn

Best Practices for Return-to-Participation & Minimizing Burnout

Dr. Lindsay Stephens, Board-Certified in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine, will share with

attendees how to recognize and assess injuries common to All Star cheer. She will also address one of

the most often discussed topics among injured athletes and parents, coaches and healthcare

personnel: “When can I go back and play?” Return-to-participation (RTP) recommendations following

injury can be a difficult decision for health-care professionals and athletes/parents/coaches due to the

various factors that must be considered. Making an educated decision on RTP that ensures that the

athletes’ physical and mental well being is the primary focus can minimize athlete burnout.

WORKSHOP: Leading with a Purpose - Create an Action Plan for Success

In this session, Joe Terrasi (national lead trainer for Positive Coaching Alliance) and Robin Galik

(Northeast Regional Director) will work with owners and program leaders to develop the beginnings of

an action plan to build, nurture, and protect a culture that supports the healthy development and

growth of all athletes. Program leaders will work on creating specific roles and responsibilities for

every group of stakeholders in their organization to actively contribute to an environment that

maximizes the athletic and personal growth of all athletes. Attendees will create a customized season

calendar of when and how to utilize the tools and resources developed by the USASF specifically for

you to succeed on and off the mat or marley.

BOLT & MARCH

The USASF is offering two programs for athlete leadership training. Bettering Our Leaders of

Tomorrow (BOLT), and Males Advancing Respect, Connections and Honorability (MARCH) introduce

and encourage concepts of integrity, accountability, personal growth and self-confidence to high school

age athletes. The USASF believes that everyone has leadership capabilities. BOLT and MARCH

activates young athletes to become strong peer role models who put team first, fully commit to their

All Star program and learn to make choices that lead to accomplishment. Developed and led by alumni

of the USASF Mentoring Leaders program, BOLT and MARCH will set young athletes on their path to

success. Separate registration is required, see link above.

CREDENTIALING

Level 7 (formerly Level 6)

This will be offered on Sunday, August 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required.

Level 7 Credentialing Candidates will attend class sessions to review the rules and address the skills

and safety considerations for our highest level. Attendance for the full day is required. Level 7

credentialing candidates must be credentialed through Level 6 (formerly Level 5) to be eligible for this

course. This course is included with National Meeting attendance, however, National Meeting attendees

must register for Level 7 credentialing and pay the credentialing fee through their USASF member

portal ($30). Level 7 credentialing candidates who do not register for and attend the National Meeting

will pay the course fee ($150) and the testing fee ($30) for a total of $180. In addition to waiving the

course fee, Level 7 credentialing candidates who also attend the National Meeting may complete the

required Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal Coach® course at no additional charge.

Practical Session (Hands-on | In-person testing)

Cheer Coach Credentialing will be scheduled Sunday-Tuesday. Pre-registration is required. Follow this

The USASF Cheer Coach Credentialing Program examines, tests and certifies the knowledge, expertise

and proficiency that a cheer coach possesses to safely teach building and/or tumbling skills in Levels

1-6. Current USASF Career Members who are 18 years or older are eligible for the credentialing

program. Coaches must be a current Career Member in order to maintain valid credentials. National

Convention attendees can complete the required Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal Coach® course

at no additional charge when they attend the National Meeting.

Cheer - Saturday, August 3 (1:00 pm-9:00 pm) Dance - Sunday, August 4 (1:00 pm-5:00 pm)

The USASF trains and certifies Legality Officials for All Star cheer and All Star dance on an annual

basis. The certification term is based on each annual All Star season. Typically the season begins in

the fall and extends through the spring. You MUST register separately for this course. It is NOT

included in the National Meeting pricing. Buy one, get one free- Legality Official Candidates may take

both cheer & dance certification courses for the price of one.
