What This Package Does----------------------This package provides the Ethernet driver for Windows 2000/XP.The Ethernet driver enables or updates the Ethernet function of thefollowing adapters on the following ThinkPad computers.One of the following Ethernet device is integrated into your ThinkPaddepending on your ThinkPad model.

  - Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection (10/100 Ethernet)  or  - Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection (Gigabit Ethernet)

This release supports the following systems:

  - ThinkPad R40 (10/100 Ethernet)  - ThinkPad T40, T41, T42  - ThinkPad T40p, T42p  - ThinkPad R50, R50e, R51  - ThinkPad X31, X32, X40

To determine if you should update the Ethernet driver, refer to the"Summary of Changes" section.

Note: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/(uninstall) wizardfor the device driver and for Intel PROSet in the following operatingsystems:- Windows 2000- Windows XP

Note: Before upgrading Intel(R) PROSet, you have to uninstall the currentPROSet that is installed on your ThinkPad.

Windows 2000

UPDATE INSTALL:To update the driver,

 1. Extract this package onto your hard drive. 2. Start Windows 2000. 3. Click "Start", select "Settings", and click "Control Panel". 4. Double-click "System" icon. 5. Click "Hardware" tab. 6. Click "Device Manager..." button. 7. Click the "+" mark to expand "Network adapters". 8. Right-click one of the following devices in "Network adapters"

  and click "Properties".  "Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection"  "Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection" 9. Click "Driver" tab.10. Click "Update Driver..." button.11. Click "Next >" button in "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" dialog box.12. Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)".13. Click "Next >" button.14. If this is the first time to boot Windows 2000, the OS detects the EthernetController automatically. To install the device driver, follow the instructionsbelow.

 1. Extract this package onto your hard drive. 2. Start Windows 2000. It displays "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog box. 3. Click "Next >" button. 4. Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)". 5. Click "Next >" button. 6. Select "Specify a location" only in "Optional search locations:". 7. Click "Next >" button. 8. Specify the path to one of the following sub-directories with the full pathname  where you extracted the package in step 1 in "Copy manufacturer's files from:".  "PRO100\WIN2K" (for "Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection")  "PRO1000\WIN2K" (for "Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection") 9. CLEAN INSTALL: (Ethernet Controller in Other devices)

Windows 2000 detected the Ethernet Controller, but was not able tofind the correct device driver. In this case, you will see EthernetController in Other devices in Device Manager. To install thedriver, follow the instructions below.

 1. Extract this package onto your hard drive. 2. Start Windows 2000. 3. Click "Start", select "Settings", and click "Control Panel". 4. Double-click "System" icon. 5. Click "Hardware" tab. 6. Click "Device Manager..." button. 7. Right-click "Ethernet Controller" in "Other devices" and click  "Properties".
