    1. How You Got the Interview

Then: I scoured the Sunday paper's Help Wanted section and circled the possibilities in red

marker. Typed up a cover letter and resume and sealed it in a business size envelope.

    Postage was Rs. 1.

Now: Elle ran into a friend of a friend who worked at the company, put in a good word

after she applied online, and boom.

    2. The Vetting Process

Then: I supplied the names of three references who were contacted by phone.

Now: No references required. LinkedIn served the purpose.

    3. The Introduction

Then: My boss asked his secretary to take me around to meet the staff. As we walked from

office to office, she would tell people, "Helene is in the cubicle next to the elevator and

can be reached at ext. 3245."

Now: Elle's boss circulated an email. "Please welcome Elle to our team. You can follow her

    on Twitter @Elle123."

    Who's the Boss?

Then: A white-haired gentleman in Brooks Brothers suits and an abundance of aftershave

who had decades of experience in the industry, took many three martini lunches, and hadhis secretary buy Christmas gifts for his wife.

Now: Elle's boss is 30 years old. Which is just about the average age of the staff there.

    What to Wear?

Then: The dress code called for a conservative suit, preferably a skirt and jacket (no pants

ever), nylons, button down blouse and ... wait for it ... flouncy bow tie.

    Now: Dress Smart

    Let's Get Social

Then: My first week at the job I was taken out to lunch by the boss. He had steak and a

    martini. I had a chef's salad and a Tab.

Now: Elle and another new employee were officially welcomed at an office Happy Hour.

    • Coca-Cola uses co-creation and

    customization to remain relevant to

    Millennials.

    • Microsoft uses co-creation to create

    award-winning ad formats.

The social platform is a key enabler, but the

ultimate power of the Burberry model resides

in the co-creation forces it unleashes

between the firm’s internal sales, service, and

marketing people and the firm’s customers.

Burberry is demonstrating that human co-

creation is the true revolution. – Francis

Social Design - The Motivation, The “Why”

Social Design because of Social Capital.

The beauty of social design is that it plays to the most powerful form of

motivation: the self, the identity. We interact with others because we want

to, because we learn more about ourselves and because we feel better

    when we feel heard.

    Work and Life Integration

As COO of Facebook,   Sheryl Sandberg   has been redefining what it means to be a

leader. Her candor about the challenges she faces in resolving conflicts among different

parts of her life  —   as an executive, a catalyst for social change, a friend, a wife, a sister,

and a mother  — and about the non-traditional means she employs for doing so, has made

her a persuasive role model and an outspoken voice on women and leadership.

Michelle Obama, the 44th First Lady of the United States, explains that she considers her

daughters to be her first priority, even if this stance rankles those who would have her do

more in seeking broader political and cultural change. In making sure her own children

were receiving the most nutritious food possible, she began to advocate for better nutrition

through the national initiative  Let’s Move!. Her policies have won national acclaim.
