Brief Industrial Profile of Champhai District.
1 GENERAL CHARACTERISTIC OF DISTRICT: The Champhai District isthe eight District of Mizoram State of North Eastern Part of India.The totalarea of the district is 3185.83 Sq.Kms ,which comprises varied geographicalfeatures like agricultural plains, hilly terrains & forests.The total forest coverof the district is 240832 hectares.The distance from its State capital is 194Kms..The Champhai town is the administrative headquarters of theDistrict.The Champhai District is 1678 meter above sea level.The averagerainfall of the District is 159 mm.
1.1 LOCATION & GEOGRAPHICAL AREA :The Geographical location of theChamphai District in between longitudes 93° 19' 32" East & latitudes 23°28' 28" North.The District is bounded on the North by Churachandpurdistrict of Manipur State on the West by Aizawl & Serchhip District and onthe South & East by Myanmar. The Geographical Area of the District is3185.83 Sq.Kms.
TOPOGRAPHY: District topography shows the positional features of thedistrict showing its border with various states and district located in NorthEastern part of India.The prime geographical character that form thetopographical features of Champhai District. The topography in general isundulant with broken mountain/hilly ranges and between them lies thevalley lands suitable for cultivation of field crops.The hills are situated forHorticultural practice where ever the slopes are gentle/moderate.The soil inthe hills are rich in humus due to forest cover.

1.4 FOREST: The total forest area of the district is 240832 hectare ,out of which1096 hectares dense forest & 1632 hectares open forest. Total forest cover of thedistrict is about 75.59% of the total Geographical area.
1.5 ADMINISTRATIVE SET UP: Champhai is one of the eight district ofMizoram,headed by the Deputy Commissioner.lt comprises of 03 (three) SubDivisions which name as Champhai,Khawzawl &Ngopa .Below this level there are04 Revenue Circle (Tehsils) namely Ngopa,Khawzawl,Champhai & Khawbung"S".Furthermore from the development angle the district is divided in 04 nos R.D Block-Champhai,Khawbung,Khawzawl & Ngopa. Below the Block level set up there are105 nos of Village council headed by Village council president.
